Visited the website for Lone Star Comics. It looks like my wallet will be crying after this week's new comics.

Nice, Rodney!!

I read:

King in Black 1-5 and Venom 34: What useless garbage. What a junk story. I'm sorry, this was just dumb. I can nitpick, like, you realize how many billions x billions x googol number of dragons would be needed to encompass the entire EARTH? I'm bored to tears about another god that shows up, an even older one than even the older ones we'v seen, that were older than even the other older ones we've seen, until OooOoooOOo this one shows up! Just a trash book. and then, oh, we mean business by having
The Captain Universe power come for Eddie, lifting Mjolnir, welding it to the Surfer's board; what , they couldn't fit the Phoenix power in there as an armor piece? Maybe have the Beyonder show up in a Robin costume to be side kick?

Amazing Spider-man 64- not a worthwhile artist fill-in here. Really detracted  with his lack of inductive storytelling abilities.

Batman/Superman 7-10 - fun with a team up book! I dig the use of Ra's, Zod, and Ultra-humanite!

Justice League 41-43 - The Eradicator! Big fights! I dug it! (Josh Williamson)
JL 44-47 - another brief arc, going to Tarterus, and dealing with the Spectre, an absent Corrigan, and even part of the League's personal feelings towards each other and their roles. I like it! (Writer from Rick and Morty)
JL 48-50 - Absolute horseshit. Si Spurrier takes a turn in the most forced writing I've seen in some time. every character is written ...out of character and shoe-horned into a belligerent role to show what happens when they take power as overlords to lead a planetoid of people that have always been seperated by 2 different castes their whole existence. Even I can say it takes cheap shots at toxic masculinity, current political climate of the time, and SJW torch holding. What junk!!
JL 51-52 - Okay, this is the Rick and Morty writer; he does a Black Mercy 2 parter, that I quite enjoyed, watching Bruce's 'mother' finally have a say in how Bruce has lived his life. Good stuff too.

And now I"m onto the Death Metal JL tie in issues that Jeff didn't like. Since I'm done with Death Metal...I"m skipping these!!

When they came out, I picked up FS: Robin Eternal and FS: TT, but I pretty much skipped the event. That's when I started Radiant Black and a couple of the Power Ranger issues. Let me know your thoughts on the rest of Future State.

Didn’t realize until now that my preorder of Something is Killing the Children came in today.  Adding that to my list.

Future State:  The Next Batman #2
Future State:  Superman Worlds of War #1
Future State:  Immortal Wonder Woman #1
Future State:  Shazam #1

---------------------------------------------

DC Nation Presents: DC Future State #1 - Didn’t realize this was just a “previews” solicit issue.  Flipped through it as I didn’t want to get too spoiled.  Riley Rossomo is doing the Legion one so I’m actually looking forward to it.

Future State:  The Next Batman #1 - Three stories in this. Didn’t care for the Luke Fox story. I liked the Outsiders story though I’m not a fan of The Signal.  The Arkham Knights seems to have potential but it’s not there yet.

Future State:  Harley Quinn #1 - the anime style art bugs me for a Harley comic but the story seems decent enough. I like the use of Scarecrow in this.

Future State:  Swamp Thing #1 - I really liked this one. A future where Swamp Thing has spawned a family of sorts and humans are nearly extinct.  Thumbs up here.

Future State:  Superman of Metropolis #1 - another three story book.  I liked the first two stories.  One with Jon and Kara; the second with Mister Miracle, Shilo.  The third was a Guardian story which was just ok.  The addition of Jimmy Olsen in it made it better.

Future State:  Wonder Woman #1 - It’s got a bit of high and mighty attitude which is off putting.  But other than that seems to be the start of something interesting.

Future State:  The Flash #1 - Oh yea!  Another Flash book with Wally as the bad guy.  Sigh.

Future State:  Dark Detective #1 - I liked this one.  Two stories.  First is the return of Bruce Wayne.  Second is a Grifter story.  Both were enjoyable.

Future State:  Robin Eternal #1 - Tim Drake and Stephanie Brown?  I’m in!  And glad for it.  I like this one.

Future State:  Green Lantern #1 - Three stories. The first story - John Stewart - awful. The art is terrible and the writing is even worse. The second story - Jessica Cruz & the Sinesto Corp - good! I’ll like reading this arc.  The third story - Guy Gardner - ok.  It’s a one shot story and humorous.  As a one shot it was decent.  If it was more it would have been dumb.

Future State:  Justice League #1 - Two stories and both get a thumbs up.  First one is a new Justice League with Jon in charge as Superman.  The second is a pretty good Justice League Dark story with familiar team members Zatanna, Detective Chimp, and others that I won’t spoil yet.

Future State:  Teen Titans #1 - Interesting! Thumbs up here.  Can’t wait to see how this new “Nightwing” is going to play out.

Future State:  Superman/Wonder Woman #1 - I read in an online review that this was the reviewers favorite Future State title.  I guess I won’t be reading that reviewer again.  Blech.  This was no good.

Future State:  Kara Zor-el, Superwoman #1 - I want to like this, I really do.  But I can’t say I enjoyed it. Maybe next issue will be better.

Future State:  Nightwing #1 - Another good one.  Nightwing runs a new resistance and is ready to spring a trap on the Magistrate with some new help.  Thumbs up.

Yeah, not getting anything read this week. Well, barely anything. No way am I trying a list this week

Doctor Strange #9 (1975) - Finishing off the three issue arc featuring the return of Dormmamu and his sister Umar. Loved the Colan art in this run. He fits this kind of book so well! Cover is listed as having Gil Kane art, but I think the Dan Atkins inks totally killed his style. Looks nothing to me like Kane

Invaders #2 (1975) - Never thought that I would complain about an Invaders comic and the complaint would not be centered around the Frank Robbins art, yet here I am. Just not a good story and should have just remained as an issue of Giant-Size Invaders. Hoping #3, the true first issue, is better. Have to say I am scared now however

Legion of Super-Heroes #60 (1989) - First issue of the final arc of this incarnation/volume of Legion. The start of the end if you will. Read this after the Invaders issue and was kinda scared the bad taste I had would carry over to this title but no, this was pretty cool. Part one of the Magic War that will bring forth a big change in the Legion comics for the next few years.
I still hate Tellos, but yeah, pretty cool issue. Getting really pumped to get back to Legion '89 after this ... and to start the Five Years after run of Legion!

---------------------------------------------

Future State:  Catwoman #1 - So I’m confused. Are these stories all independent of each other or do they take place at different times?  Because a lot of them have the same characters in them but with different things happening to them.  In any case, this one was enjoyable.

Future State:  The Next Batman #2 - Still not caring for the Luke Fox story.  Second story about girls who have been Batgirl was ok.  Third story with Catwoman & Ivy wasn’t good.

Future State:  Superman Worlds of War #1 - Now this was interesting.  Four independent stories: Smallville, Mister Miracle, Midnighter, and then Black Racer. But each story crossed over more or less with the others.  It’s that crossover that I found interesting and now I want to see how this plays out.

Future State:  Immortal Wonder Woman #1 - Two stories. The first, Would be better with better art.  A decent start to the story with Swamp Thing and Darkseid in it.  The second one starred Nubia and was pretty boring. Decent cliff hanger though so maybe next issue will be better.

Future State:  Shazam #1 - Ooooooo!  I like this! A bit dark for Shazam but very intriguing!

Strange Adventures #11 - Sadly, I’m not enjoying this book.  If this story was happening to new, unfamiliar characters I think I would probably love this.  But since it’s using people we know and making them different than their character truly is I find it annoying.  At least there’s only one more issue.

Crossover #7 - Guest writer Chip Zdarsky takes us on a meta trip starring…Chip Zdarsky?  Yeah it’s as weird as it sounds.   Wink

The Department of Truth #10 - Yes! About time we went looking for Bigfoot! Good start for this arc.

That Texas Blood #7 - A trip into the sheriffs past as a young officer with a cult murder scene to investigate and a strange P.I. from LA with an occultist point of view to assist.  Has the makings of a good one.

Something is Killing the Children #18 - Erica’s induction into the family begins and we meet a new interesting character.  Still my favorite series for the time being.

I never read those final issues of Legion of Super-Heroes.  I had quit comics at that time and when I came back I never got around to catching up on those.  Might have to look into that for the future.

Yeah, same for me (although honestly I may have given up on Levitz/Legion well before .. and he was the main writer Cheesy). I recently tried to start back at this volume's number one issue but I stopped well short of these. If you do start this back up, to finish it or to prep for the next two series (Legion '89 and LoSH '89 ... which one is the start and on is 5 years after the Magic Wars arc I am currently reading), I would, at the very least, start where I did to get the Emerald Empress couple of issues. However, you may want to start a tad prior to that as what is happening now, the last four issues, certainly is set up a little bit prior. I had hoped going back two issues would be enough to get the idea of what's happening here, and it is, but I should have gone back 2 or 3 more I think. Of course knowing Levitz love of setting things up way in advance (somthing I do like about his writing), perhaps I should have gone back 50 issues
 Cheesy
But at the very least start at ... #53? If not #50, just to get better story coverage

Oh and lastly (finally, Perry!!!) I do like the look of the Legionnaires outfits around this time. Yes it has that late 80's early 90's fashion feel, but I enjoy seeing their little icons on the lapels of their jackets. With Giffen's art (which is fantastically etchy, scratchy and yeah ... people can come off ugly) it just fits. He has a noir feel to his art that kicks that 90's look into something retro, not fad like. Although I have loved his stuff since I first saw it before The Great Darkness Saga ... when it first hit. Damn I am old
 Grin
(Remember all those reddish info bulletins and lines? Was that the letterer I wonder? Probably? Maybe?)

Anyway, wild to think about how Giffen was so influential and stayed on Legion (and related) for so long ... I think only Levitz beats his time, yeah?
 Cool
Jeeez, I'm getting Legion Sickness again. Can't stop ...
