Guardians of the Galaxy 1-10: So, this is Donny Cates work. At first, I was having a pretty time reading the first arc. Headless Thanos, resurrection threats, Star-lord down and out, picking up pieces after The Infinity War or whatever they called that latest piece. But as I kept reading, something started to gnaw at me...and bug me....This is all derivative. Find the prior members, tell a brief story of them, Church of Universal Truth, getting back the
the original Drax
, it all feels....derivative. Since Abnett&Lanning, this feels how you're supposed to write GotG books. So, I don't know if I soured myself on the book, but I want something to change or give a huge uptick to the book. Am I wrong? check that. Do you guys feel that way at all?

Starting Silver Surfer Black...

Silver Surfer Black 1-5: A little love song to Stan Lee's and Moebius' work. A fine little piece, with some visuals that really were...stunning to take in. With my art background, I do love to take in an amazing visual, but I do also like to back up from it to 'see' how it was made. To step back to see how the artist drafted it all originally from the first pencil mark touched to a virgin white sheet of paper. Some pages here? Wow, the imagination! And a fine reason of a story to help reset and or push the Surfer in a new direction. I dig it.

Titans: Burning Rage #3 - End of arc and it was decent.  I’m sure I’m enjoying it as a fan of the Wolfman/Perez Titans.  Not sure what new readers would think.

Marvel Zombies: Ressurecton #1 - I guess this is an all new zombie story and not related to the original Marvel Zombie story.  Knowing that, I will say that I liked this first issue.  Interesting way that the zombie virus comes to earth.

Silver Surfer: Black #5 - I think Jimmy already said it all on this one.  I did enjoy this, including the art.

Doctor Aphra Annual #3 - art here was terrible but the story was fun using the bounty hunters from the series and taking place in the cantina on Tatooine.

Guardians of the Galaxy 1-10: So, this is Donny Cates work.

No, it really, truly isn't. THAT is what I found so sad about that series. It was ... ya know ... copy and paste writing?
-His Thor is better (although, honestly, kind of "off putting" at first but it does give way to fantastic ideas ... while still having not the best dialog early on Undecided, but it gets sooo much better)
-His Venom has me hooked and I never, ever read Venom. Of course I'm not sure if that is a good thing for those that have or not, and saying that, I have not read an issue of Venom in a few months now ...but I enjoy his take (and that art doesn't hurt)
-His Silver Surfer Black is ... well, you just read that one  Cheesy (Ties in with some of his other stuff and the end of Aaron's Thor)
-His Cosmic Ghost Rider, tying in with his Thanos, was a pure BLAST!!! Loved everything about them both, except for the next Cosmic Ghost Rider mini that followed written by ... someone else
-His Dr. Strange was another fine piece of comic writing. For me at least. As a fan of the character he took me, the good doctor and Loki on a great ride! And the dog!!  Grin
-His Death of the Inhumans was pretty fun t ... hey, I still need to finish that one!!!! Shocked
-His God Country, the book that made him (some say) while good, to men, wasn't as amazing as I had heard. Enjoyable read with an ending that, to me, happened way too fast. Not horrible though, just an ending that felt very much like the end of that Abercrombe book  Cheesy
-His Redneck is a great Vampire tale. In the same vein as American Vampire ... in a way ... though to me .. and I am sure Jeff will agree, I think  Smiley a much better story, with all the stuff about the family and the curse
-His Babyteeth is another book I need to get back on. Girl gives birth to Devil baby and all that. Only a 20 issue series.
-His Buzzkill and ...
-Ghost Fleet are two that I have yet to read, but one day will. Ya know, along with 87,593 other titles I have on my to read list.
 Undecided

Yeah, I am loving me some Cates

Okay, then I'm not that far off base to just call it derivative. It's not DUMB like Bendis' was (and it was dumb, not because it was Bendis, it's dumb because it was dumb.

Looking forward to starting it...but I feel I'll miss Aaron for a while

I just...have grown...so MUCH to hate all things symbiotes. Keeping them alive is just as painful to watch as every reason the Joker isn't killed.

And I've enjoyed all this too!!! So, yes, I'm a fan, as it would appear.  Cool Grin Cheesy

Suicide Squad #3 - Good issue and good series.  The new characters have grown on me and I’m interested in this mystery. Who are the new masters of the Suicide Squad?

Joker: Killer Smile #2 - Oh man is this creepy! Feels a lot like Gideon Falls and that’s a good thing. Lemire is hitting another ball out of the park here.

DCeased: Unkillables #2 - Great issue.  I like the bad guys and good guys coming together to fight a common enemy.  But after seeing this ending, it can’t end well for our little group.

Lots of banking stuff and ... heck I am not sure, but I didn't get a lot of reading in for some reason. I did start a book celebrating the work of John Buscema but that is going to be a long one, so a little bit at a time for that one.
 Grin
Other than that, yeah, not much at all -

Flash v2 #168
Flash v2 #169
Flash v2 #170
- Ah yes, Kolins is finally here at issue 170. Yes, this is so much more visually pleasing to me. So far the costume is the same, clean, red, no additional lines costume that The Flash SHOULD be in, and while I understand that may not last long, I will damn sure enjoy it while it is here. Never heard of this Magenta character, but John's did a good job of catching me up to speed, kinda (she was just shown so I am sure I will get more as the issues continues). Basically a crazy ex-girlfriend with magnetic powers. JOY

Wonder Woman v2 #5
Wonder Woman v2 #6
- Hmmm, I am thinking now that I am older that I am not a huge Len Wein fan? I didn't notice it much in the first two issues he wrote (issues #3 and #4), but as I didn't notice a vast change at the time he took over, I thought I was safe. Not so fast hombre! While the first four (or the first three at the very least) issues had a nice flow to them, suddenly at issue #5 the writing gets a somewhat dated feel. Over explanation of panels wasn't too prevalent (though there) but the dialog structure, pacing and verbage certainly went downhill, almost to the Stan Lee style. Campy in a way? I don't know ... still nice seeing the work by Perez and I will continue on for the foreseeable future and I now do remember one thing about this series. This series I didn't think I read ... I know what is behind the door!! I suddenly remember reading the issues dealing with that very thing! So at least I guess I did read some of Perez' WW, even though I didn't read these first few issues (or don't remember them anyway)
You guys will 100% recognize this story though. I promise you!!
