I'm so far back in my Unlimited reading, that I try and do some runs.

Currently I've hit Dan Slott's

Tony Stark Iron Man 5-8: Um...not sure why I don't find myself a fan of this. In these comics, I sometimes get thrown off by the events with the 'supermagic/cure/technology' that really prevades a lot of Iron Man and Black Panther books. It's so far out there, that yes, I don't relate to it. Ugh, I said I 'don't relate' to something. Anyhoo, the tech that is here is so far beyond even Star Trek, that the cost shouldn't be anything any human but a billionaire could ever get. And I know it's the magic of comics that you should be able to read and fall into what we should dream of...but it all seems such nonsense at times that I just don't buy into the story being told.

Also, (#rant), I'm still so bothered, annoyed, pissed, about the retcon of Tony Stark's birth and parentage. What just...nonsense is how I feel about it. I had to look...and it was Bendis who wrote it.  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes It's a fake out of dramatic storytelling to make a huge bombshell moment without any regard to any history of the character. All flash, no substance. It's like a Zach Snyder movie

Currently I've hit Dan Slott's

Ugh, why?
 Grin

I tried time and time to "Deal with" his Amazing run (and it times it was fun) but his IM did absolutely fuck all for me. Maybe I'm still bitter about his FF though

I'm fine with it I think. It changes the history without changing the character. Heck, I actually enjoyed that Bendis run in-fact. It doesn't change the history of the character's actions or reactions much, not the important stuff anyway, nor does it change who the character is/was. I mean being responsible for a birth is not parenting and his were not that great at it anyway so at least he still "acted" the way he should with Bendis as a writer.
 Cheesy Cheesy
One of the few ways Bendis didn't ruin the main character development if you ask me
 Grin Grin
He's always trying to spin some such nonsense, at least this one didn't change the character's voice or core ideals out of the blue to fit some larger scale crap, like he usually does.

But as you are all too aware, like most things from the big two, it will get changed soon anyway and he will have his proper lineage again
 Wink

But then again, I don't think I have read a fantastic IM issue since Fraction was on the title. Heck, Fraction and the Michellini/Layton stuff are about the only Iron Man stuff anyone needs to read as far as I am concerned. Although I still look back fondly on the Quesada IM run, when the suit had sentience, but that could be complete dreck if I read it today. I was just getting back into Marvel at the time and that seemed cool

What I am very grateful for is that, yes, Tony being adopted did not change who he is. Why would it? Howard and Maria ARE his parents. I think A SUPER annoying thing in the last issue I read is his birth mother was complaining he didn't have a lot of time for her. "I'm his mother!"she says. ... No, you are his birth mother, but right now, you're a 65 year old woman he's known for a couple of months. That's it. Lay off the cheap melodrama.

That's it! *Snaps fingers* it just feels like a cheap move! Like, any writer in the last 50 years could have done the same thing, but They didn't, because it's a low ball move. Bendis has no such compunctions.

Well, I'm not sure I agree, but can enjoy your passion about it.  Grin But I do think there are plenty of writers that would have done the same thing in some form or would have no qualms about doing it at a drop of a hat at the very least. Ellis, Ennis, Millar (God knows Millar  Cheesy) are but a few that like to shake up old standards and the birth parents of heroes plotline, as you pointed out, is an easy target for change without changing much at all. I was trying to come up with an example and the only thing I can think of right now is to say look at Peter's parents history. Are they not now super-spies or some such? I think that is right but could've been one of those alternate history things. It's so easy to lose track now.  Grin
Regardless, that is not the way I ever imagined Peter's parents, to me it takes away the serine early life of a young, nerdy boy (before the death of course), but hey it's comics, the soap opera for those that love art, it happens.

But all this reminds me I still have to read your Spidey rant from a few days ago!!!
 Grin

Also, while in the thread, I did knock out on issue last night, though not what I had planned  Grin -

History of the Marvel Universe #6 - The worst of the bunch in a relatively great read. Not that this issue was bad structurally or anything, it is just the last volume in the six issue mini and pretty much had to cover the last 12 or so years that, well, had some things I wasn't too fond of. Like the mishandling of the Inhumans, the forced push of younger heroes and all that. But it did remind me of some good times as well. Still a worthy read and enjoyed the back-matter in this last issue a lot as they didn't put the reference articles in this issue (I figure they realized it was still fresh in most peoples minds) and instead went for a more ... small index style approach.

I should probably automatically enter a caveat with each post of mine that states "if Bendis is mentioned, be prepared to roll eyes at my response." Wink

Also Millar would totally do that too lol!

Meaning Terror's death, of course
I'm back to being on Butcher's side.

X-Men (2019-) #4 - Excellent issue.  The tension builds very well and hits home with speeches from....well, I don't want to spoil it.  5 out of 5 Stars.

Lois Lane #7  - Renee Montoya as the Question really makes this title.  I'm not a fan of Rucka's Lois Lane but I'll keep coming back for Renee.

Martian Manhunter #11 - Still enjoying this.  Next issue is the big finale.  I don't think this is a comic for everyone but for me it's fun.  I really like seeing Riley's art again.  Makes me miss Proof!

Justice League Dark #18 - Moves the story forward but wasn't anything that got me excited.

Detective Comics #1018 - Feels like a "filler" arc.  This villain seems kind of lame but I think the true story here is how Bruce is dealing with the after effects of the death over in the Batman book.  I give it a 3 out of 5 batarangs.

Action Comics #1018 - I really can't take JRJR's art anymore.  Just takes me out of the story.  I'm not sure if I'm going to stick with this title much longer.

Ascender #7 - Good focus on what happened to Telsa for the 10 year gap.  Thumbs up on this book as well as the series as a whole.

Astonishing X-men 16 and 17-Jeebus Jim, are you 19 months behind in reading?!?! Yes, yes I am good sirs. Grin I'm really sad that yet another title I was enjoying at the time ended! Thank you Rosenberg! Ok, on to his Uncanny X-men then.

X-men Red: 1-11: Ugh. I hate to say this, and I'm going to say it, and maybe not even truly believe it, but what a woke/SJW slighted view of the world through weak and poorly written X-men racism analogs. I followed to this book to see what Laura and 'Honey Badger' were doing!!! (And they dropped her Scout moniker instead.  Angry ) Tom Taylor did not win me over with this at all. I'm looking forward to now blasting through some X-men comics to again get caught up to the point when Scott is alive again.

And....

Cosmic Ghost Rider 2-5 : Wow. Just wow. What was that? LOL cool stuff. Weird stuff. And it spins a bit into a Guardians of the Galaxy title for 6 issues? Which I think gets cancelled, then spins into another #1 GOTG? Seriously, Marvel, I can't even keep up with the restarts. I have no idea when books begin, end, begin, keep going, etc.

Uncanny X-men 1-4. I feel lost. What's happening and why? I like having Nate Grey back. Carry on, I guess.

Thor  10-14 and War of the Realms 1-6 :  Not...not feeling it at all. I think the individual issues of Cul, and Loki, and Odin were better than the 'we got to hit them hard!' or 'this ends here!' nonsense of continued fighting for 6 issues. Glad to see Jane Foster in her role, hated HATED seeing whatever nonsense Venom brought to this, and man...Del Mundo art still just sucks. I'm getting all Aaron work of Thor in Trades...but I havent made the jump to this title. I've ended with the Jane Foster Thor stuff, and have not, cannot?, buy this stuff yet.  What I like is that Thor seems to be a figure who you can keep changing through his adventures and trials...and you can keep it in. Lost Mjolnir, lost his arm, lost his eye...and it stays permanent. Can't do that with Cap. Or Spidey. Thor it seems you can, and that's cool!!!

Well, Until this past Wednesday when it all resets under Donny Cates.
 Grin

Also, kind of, agree with your feelings on War of the Realms, however I liked it for what it was. Was it the best? Hardly, but I found it engaging and at the very least a fun "Marvel Event". I say that with the caveat that I read not one single tie-in, unless I was reading the title already, as I will continue to do with each and every event from either Marvel or DC. And yes, the ire is still there that writers have to adapt their stories to incorporate "event" story tie-ins, but that has been beat into the ground so much and so often that by now it is not even worth mentioning by us fans any longer. The writers need to start demanding to not get interrupted, not us.

But speaking of the new Thor titles, I have to read that, but I need to fit it into my current re-read of East of West. I think I had gotten to issue #17 or so on my first go around (before deciding to wait until the book was finished) so I am more or less getting a refresher, but yeah, loving it so far ... again.

Oh, hey, to those that have read it, a question if I may ... do you know how to pronounce Death's beloved ... the character named "Xiaolian"? If not, could someone take a second or two and google how it is pronounced? I want to, but I am scared I will be spoiled on something if I search for it, like I was when I searched for a group of characters in the Wheel of Time series.
 Angry
Thanks in advance guys

pronounced Zia-o-li-an. Means little lotus. Thanks Google!

And war of the Realms was fine. Never read any tie ins. It was fine and fun, but didn't have the same depth of the latest mangog story even.

And as I continue

Wolverine Infinity Watch 1-5: what weird nonsense, but at least it was fun to read! Would never have paid money for that off the shelf

Return of Wolverine 5; forgot I hadn't read the end of this. Never let Charles Soule near Wolverine ever again. He killed him, and brought him back, and it was all garbage as far as I'm concerned.

Dead Man Logan 1-8; you know it's cool with characters/stories like this. Even with the movie 'Logan' you have an entity here that you can wind down and say good bye, and 'finish.' That tends to reverbrate much more than 'well, it'll get reset by the next author and arc, so don't put too much stock into it!'
