I was reading yesterday that Yellowstone season 5 will have a winter break in the middle of the season.  During the break we’ll get a few more bonus episodes of 1883 until Yellowstone starts back up.  Then when season 5 wraps up we’ll get 1932.  Looks like they’re trying to keep us entertained year round starting in the fall.

Hmmm, interesting. Seems they are also trying that Star Trek model.  
I guess if you're a fan that's good news. I haven't decided if I am yet or not. Ha, I think I am, at least I am of the first mini, just got to get through the main series  

For my recent screw up... I see that Picard s2 starts tomorrow so I popped in to re-watch the last episode of season one again, to get a good starting/ending point, and realized that I never finished the last two episodes!!! Now off to cram the last two, with the a re-watch of 8 but for a different reason

- Picard s1 - I can't believe I just now finished this  I honestly thought I had completed it months ago, but I somehow, for some reason, only got to episode 8. Just finished the last, episode 10 seconds ago and while I was getting worried towards the end of this show whether I would be excited to jump back in with season two, I found I enjoyed it, over all, at the end.

Recently Finished:

- Mayor of Kings Town s1 - Yellowstone creators also did this one. Started good, but I will not be back for season 2 if there is one. Was good for the first two or so but then it got too damn (say it with me) network tv like. Funny seeing Jeremy Renner grabbing a bow but being a different character though 

- Peacemaker s1 - I was reluctant at first, even though I really enjoyed the Gunn Suicide Squad, I was still kinda leary on this. Man was I wrong. Fantastic series... if you don't mind 80's glam rock, dick jokes and a story with heart. I will be back for season two. Fun fact I just found out, James Gunn recently got married to Jennifer Holland, the blonde that plays Harcourt on the show. Congrats to them... or him (she's 20 years younger than the 55 year old writer/director  )

Finished:
1.  1883 - Season 1 - Great series.  You don’t need to have watched Yellowstone to enjoy this.  It does add to Yellowstone as you see some of these characters in flashbacks during that series.  But on its own 1883 is a great western in the realm of Lonesome Dove.  Sam Elliot is great as always and Tim McGraw and Faith Hill do excellent jobs playing the great grandparents of John Dutton. The daughter, whom the show centers around, does a good job showing a strong woman on the Oregon Trail even if her narrations start to wear on you.  Big thumbs up for this show.

2.  Star Trek Discovery - Season 4 - Absolutely the worst Star Trek season of any series of all time. I won’t be watching Season 5.  Thankfully we have Picard and Strange New Worlds coming up for some better Star Trek.  It’s a shame too as the first two seasons showed it’s true potential.  Bad characters, bad writing, and an obsession with feelings killed this show.

2.  Star Trek Discovery - Season 4 - Absolutely the worst Star Trek season of any series of all time.

WHAT??? NO WAY!!! This season was fantastic. Truly epic storytelling.

Listening to characters whimper about how they feel and being unsure about themselves?
Check!
People lamenting for episode after episode on the loss of loved ones or how they are "not seen" every ten seconds?
Also here!
How loving this and loving that can lovingly conquer love if you only love the love you love?
I Loved it!
Having a Captain show the much needed strength of leadership by crying like a little child in front of her own crew, while on the bridge during a crisis?
Man, that was just like real life!! I can't count the times my ex-father-in-law (Retired Master Chief) told the tale of how back when he was Senior Chief, the submarine he was C.O.B for (Chief Of the Boat) got itself in dire straights and the crew feared all was lost, but luckily the Captain started balling in front of the crew, while in battle stations, and it made it all better for them. Solved the issue immediately. Yep! And how afterwards the crew held that Captain in such high regard because he didn't act like a normal Captain... calmly handling the situation, no, no, but how he let feelings control the situation to make it all better! Respect!!

And getting back to this season, I just don't understand why you didn't like it. Oh sure, every now and then you would get the horrible odd episode based on scientific "discovery" or "space" discovery, ya know, I guess because it is a scientific vessel made to "discover" things outside our knowledge, but surely there was very little of that to be a bother this season. Hardly any episodes felt like a Star Trek show, so I don't understand why this season didn't hit for you.

I mean, even when the crew does "discover" new life, at least the writers have the good common sense to not only base the aliens entire language on nothing but the expressing of feelings (because we just, cant, get, enough, of, that) but also show them to be just as empathetic to life and love as the Discovery's wonderful, hand holding, weepy-eyed, I can't go a minute without talking about how I feel, how you feel, how we should feel or how we could feel, crew.

And to top it off we get the utter joy of having a creature full of emotions, whose main curse was fear, fall in love with a character whose very society scorns such expression of emotions... even though she seems to have forgotten that very important aspect about her character.

You didn't like that? Man, I don't know what to say!!

Season 3 was... bordering on pretty bad
Season 4 was bad bad bad and yes, I will not be back unless a new head of production/show Runner is hired along with a new writing staff.

- Inventing Anna s0 - Was pretty impressed with this series based on the true story of a scam artist the conned millionaires and Banks out of millions of dollars. Pretty amazing how she got away with it for so long. Good show and extremely well acted by the uber talented Julia Garner (the wild/crazy and uber interesting girl from Ozarks)

Finished:
1.  The Haunting of Hill House - Season 1 - This was an amazing series.  I loved the mystery of it more than the horror pieces but it doesn’t work without the horror pieces either.  Intricately woven together with great characters and great reveals.  This is one I am so glad I listened to Perry about.

2.  Raised by Wolves: - Season 2 - I didn’t realize this season only had eight episodes in it. This almost ruined my opinion of the show as I was sitting around waiting for episode nine and it just never came! But I will say that as much as this show slogged along in the beginning it did get better and by the end There were lots of great events that happened. In the end I think it was a pretty good show, not the best, but still pretty decent.

3.  The Gilded Age - Season 1 - This was another one that seemed to end kind of abruptly at episode nine, but it is from the makers of Downton Abbey. I’ve been told that Downton Abbey only had nine episodes per season as well so in light of that it does make sense. Overall I will say I enjoyed this show. I don’t think it will become a classic like Downton Abbey but on its own it was still quite good.

4.  The Flash - Season 8 Part 1 - Armageddon - well, as big of a train wreck as the Flash has become, this season “mini“ turned out to be not too bad. Don’t get me wrong, it was a complete train wreck starting out but around episode four, when they brought back one of the original actors, it got better.  I did like the special effects on Despero. He looked pretty good and was kind of fun to look at. The character itself and the  actor portraying him, not so much. Overall it still gets a “C” but that’s a lot better than it has been the past two seasons.  Part 2 of season 8 has already started and we’ll see if they can keep an upward trend (but I doubt it).

Mandalorian episodes

more than I did most of these episodes, but it wasn't too bad. Except for the ridiculous fight scenes. Horrible. Well, except for the one on one fight... under the spoiler  I still give it a sold 6.5 to 7 outta 10 overall. But then again, those last two episodes had those stupid ass fight scenes. In fact, on second thought, no, I give this a slightly above average

Free Fire - Hey, this one had Captain Marvel and Lone Ranger.  A fun movie about a gun deal gone bad
Moonlight - Not what I was fully expecting, but a damn well acted movie. Super impressed.

I know movies don't usually go here, but I think of it as a "series" of movies  We finished 5 of them in the last 3 days. We have seen about 10 already, including the great ones like: Hereditary, The Witch, Midsommar, Ex Machina and even the not so great, Lighthouse (blah  )
But yeah, we've knocked out those movies above, like a series, in the last 3 days

- Halo s1 - And I'm out. It's okay, not great, but way to much out there that I am more interested in for me to spend more time on this.

- Vikings: Valhalla s1 - We really enjoyed this one. Love based on historic event stuff and this is no different. The wife and I may go back and watch the original series set 100 years prior (all eight seasons of it? Maybe not? Haha)

Uncut Gems - Powerful!!! Adam Sandler (whom I am not a fan of) blows it out of the water! Realy good!
Mississippi Grind  - Just an okay Ryan Reynolds gambling movie.
First Reformed - Horrible. Ethan Hawke was good, script was boring as hell!!
Good Time - Pattinson as a criminal. Good and he is a great actor (horrible Bruce Wayne though 
Swiss Army Man - Absolutely the most stupid movie I have seen, but funny as hell
Room - I can see why it won a lot of praise. Capt Marvel (Carol Danvers) kidnapped 
Ballad of Lefty Brown - Another bad one. Looked like a cool western, but no. Avoid
Prayer Before Dawn - Not bad, not good. True story of a boxer in a Thailand prison
A Most Violent Year - Moon Knight running an Oil Company However, title is wrong as there was only one or two instances of violence. The Not Very Violent Year is maybe a better title?

Finished:

1.  Ozark - Season 4 Part 2 (Final Season) - GREAT FINISH.  Kept me on the edge of my seat almost every episode.  I have mixed feelings with how the things ended for certain characters but I won’t spoil anything here.  Overall, a great send off for a great series.

2.  Picard - Season 2 - Fairly decent ending.  A little too much “feelings” stuff but not anywhere near the horribleness of Discovery.  A predictable ending but the reveals were still fun.  Loved the last minute “cameo” and hoping to see more of that next season.  Overall I enjoyed this season.

3.  Moon Knight - Season 1 - well, they screwed this pooch with that ending.  But everything up to the last episode was fun; episode 5 being my favorite. I was enjoying this quite a bit but sadly that last episode soured my view of the series.  The after credit scene, though, gives promise to a second season.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Could this be the series that makes Star Trek good again?!

Yes, double yes, and triple hell yes!  

First episodes of new shows can usually hit like a first issue of new comic series, ya know, just laying things out, not giving you a true feel, but this was top to bottom a bright light in what has been a pretty dim Star Trek Universe over the last couple of years.
I feel Picard is... well... honestly just okay (although I am hopeful for next season  ). It lacks any kind of punch that brings true emotion to me and I just don't feel like I need nor want to be glued to the screen while I watch.
And then... oh lord... with Discovery, it rapidly and quite deeply just deteriorated so far into Far-left bull shit that it took away from the idea and feel of Trek. And that is saying something because Trek has always been more on the left side of things. But damn, they just beat us to death with some of the shit the last two years.

Of course we also have the animated Lower Decks which is Trek in all its glory, but more pointed to the funny side, the under belly, the lower deck of Trek if you will

And now there is Strange New Worlds. It will be the Trek I can be proud of again. This has me super excited!!
