So thanks to a few (a lot of) fans that cried foul, DC has canceled the 'Joker Variant' of Batgirl #41 drawn by American Vampire artist Rafael Abuquerque. A fascinating aspect is that the cancellation request came from artist Abuquerque himself after fans that were objecting the cover started to receive threats.
First of all I am saddened to think that fans had bad things to say about the cover in the first place. Whether it be from the emotional punch that the cover gave them or whatever else they could have said. This is a perfect cover. It makes you remember, makes you feel what happened to Barbara. It is scary. It is perfect.
Having said that ... while maintaining my thoughts of the people that had issues with this cover ... and after looking at all the other Joker variants, I can somewhat understand why some people may not like the cover. Due to the mostly jovial interpretation of most of the Joker covers (not all mind you), I can see why some may be hit even stronger when they come across this cover. However, I still don't agree, I think it is a perfect cover and I believe the saying "just don't buy it" fits perfectly here.
But then, if that wasn't enough, stupid ass "fans" started to threaten those that felt the cover was in bad taste. Condemning their opinion by threatening them. Real stupid shit. So thanks to their idiocy, they no longer get to have the cover they were defending.
While I am sad that any fans were able to sway an artist, one way or the other, the fact that the dumb-asses that threatened people that didn't enjoy what they enjoy, now don't get to have what they enjoy
That is the only good thing to come of this I suppose.
