Really beautiful looking book.
As far as, Dr. Strange goes, he might work better as a yearly mini-series than an ongoing.
Unless there's a "Dr. Strange & The Secret Defenders" where Strange gets teamed up with random Marvel characters every issue to solve a problem... eh, even then I don't see it going over a year.
The mini-series would work best, IMHO. Especially if someone like Brian K. Vaughn makes time to do it each year.

I understand your thinking with Doc Strange, but if JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK can work for 2 plus years, I see no reason that Dr. Strange can't have the same success. Well, other than it's been awhile since he has had that successful of a run and Marvel magic usually doesn't usually sell well. Yeah, other than those two minor things ... |

I think any character can make it if it has the right creative team. If the story is compelling the fans will follow. |

I attribute Justice League Dark's success with having "Justice League" in the title. If Doc Strange lead an all magic team called "Avengers: Mystics," or something of that nature, it would have a better shot. Regardless of how many "Avengers" titles are already on the market. |

Heh HEH! Great comments all around.
When I go back to Brubaker's run, all I can think of is A)too short!, and B) Well...that's it for really great Iron Fist, right?
Perhaps not!
But I may let others be the judge of it.
As with the Dr. Strange topic, well, I'm a huge fantasy nerd as well, and I think Dr. Strange could be great...if he wasn't dragged so often into the superhero world (per se), where he's either shown to be all powerful, greater than all, or weaker than a dimming light bulb. Call it the novelization Luke Skywalker syndrome. Greatest Jedi? Um...how do we show that? Nevermind, we'll knock him unconscious for the whole trilogy.

I've ever read any of his stuff (that I know of), but I see most fans really like him. But you saying that ... kinda has me worried.  |

I've ever read any of his stuff (that I know of), but I see most fans really like him. But you saying that ... kinda has me worried. His cover work during Bruce Jones run on Incredible Hulk is what got him attention.....great stuff, but I've only read Spider-Man Reign from what he has written, and it was no bueno.... |

ISSUE #1Overall, just an average comic. In fact, not really a ton of story here because once again, we have to go the origin route. I understand that as it has been awhile and any new readers may not know Danny's beginnings, and Andrews is taking his time telling it (not complete in this issue) and I am also fine with that ... he does a good job taking his time with what origin we do see here. The art for me is pretty enjoyable, for the most part. The origin scenes look damn sweet as does some of the "old paper" look that Andrews has behind the panels (looks really cool), but the action scenes of current day, IE: non-origin scenes, seem a little too much like reading the last few issues of Iron Fist's last monthly when Travel Foreman was doing the art ... art I am not a huge fan of by the way. If the next issue has more of that style I maybe in trouble, but all in all the art composition is tight and has some good visuals and layouts. I am giving a bonus to Andrews for doing most of the work here. Writing, Penciling, Inking and Coloring (which admittedly he gets a little too red heavy with and the one black and white panel makes no sense to me whatsoever, as it was placed in a spot were it was not needed and made little impact other than confusing me ). But anytime a guy does that much, he and the title deserve an extra point. Another bonus point for his reasoning behind doing this issue all himself, which he describes in the still virgin letters page. A very quick and cool story that added to the issue, even though it had nothing really to do with the issue. Anyone that uses the ole Stan Lee "comicbook versus comic book" mantra and talks about being wowed by what Steranko did in his issues should be awarded the point when needed. And again, this is just an average book, so it is kinda needed. With bonuses 7 outta 10 - girl's names you just can't remember after K'un L'uning them
