So, who has read Amazing Spider-Man #700? HUGE changes to the character:

Doc Ock is living in Peter Parker's body. He somehow switched his mind into Peter's body, and Peter's mind into his body. And Doc Ock's body was dying. Peter died while still inside of it. So now, Doc Ock is Spider-Man. It all went down in the final issue of Amazing Spider-Man, #700. And now Doc Ock is gonna star in a comic called "Superior Spider-Man".

What do you think of it? Are you interested in it? Are you buying it? Do you think it was a good move, or a stupid move by Marvel?

My thoughts:

I think it's an incredibly stupid move. Doctor Octopus has lost his appeal as a villain as time has not been kind to him. He may have been a threat in the 60s, but when's the last time he's been relevant? What makes Marvel think that he'd make a good starring role in a comic book?

But as a comic book fan, I've seen this happen to characters dozens of times. Peter will be back, it's just a matter of time, I'm sure. I just hope Peter returns to the webs sooner rather than later.

Kinda agree with ya. It's just a stunt by a company that has been around so long, all it has to write about anymore, almost, are stunts like this. Peter will be back, of course, and all will return to "normal".

I will say, even though I have no strong feelings for or against the move, I do like how Slott made Octavious want to actually be Spider-Man. Props there.
And no, I won't be getting it.

Avatar mash-up is from Ross Pearsall... and of course those that own the original characters Smiley

Once the spoilers started to leak, I thought "really, is that the best Marvel could do a milestone issue?".

I may read it just out of curiousity but thought Peter deserved better than to die in the mind of a has-been villian.

i was able to avoid spoilers for the last 3 weeks or so and finally picked this up the other day.  the story itself in issue 700 was really well done.  the reflection on petes life, triumphs and tragedies were all done very well and in my opinion with lots of emotion and heart.  it's the ending i'm struggling with.

now...i've been reading comics for more than 30 yrs so i know a gimmick when i see one so i have no illusion that this new status quo will last and i dont really want it to.  i'm a curious on how it will play out and how we will regain the one true Spider-Man but i cant say i'm eager to spend $4 bucks a book on the adventures of OctoSpider.

Slott has put a lot of time amping Oct up over the past few yrs but his change of heart seems unlikely and will probably short lived until pete can reassert himself.

thinking they will do a bit of split personality and have Pete whispering in his ear compelling Doc to do the right things but i'm not sure i really care.

i need to read Avenging to see if this is something i will continue or not.  might just wait out the yr or so until Amazing 701 hits the stands Smiley
