So, event hatred aside, is anyone getting this?

I'm stil undecided but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't curious.

Especially after seeing this:  http://www.comicsalliance.com/2012/11/20/parting-spaceknight-shot-rom-returns-age-of-ultron-preview-art/

AGE OF ULTRON 1 (03/06)

(W) Brian Michael Bendis (A/CA) Bryan Hitch For years the heroes of the Marvel Universe have lived in fear that the artificial intelligence known as Ultron would one day evolve to fulfill its desire to wipe out all organic life and take over the Earth -- that day has arrived. This massive 10-part Marvel Universe-spanning event is brought to you by Eisner award-winning writer Brian Michael Bendis and comics legend Bryan Hitch.

I'm getting it. I'm a big Avengers fan, and Ultron is one of their greatest villains.

... I'm a big Avengers fan, and Ultron is one of their greatest villains.

And I am not getting it for those exact reasons. I remember Bendis' last Ultron story in MIGHTY AVENGERS, not going through that again. I can bet you here, half of the Avengers will sound exactly like Spidey, making great one-liners while the other half will sound alike speaking in Comic smart-guy chatter. That is the main reason I enjoy Bendis when he is doing solo or duo main character books and not team books. His team stuff just seems to ... similar voiced?

Plus this was originally scheduled to be in the actual Avengers titles Bendis was working on, but it fell way behind schedule and is now coming out this way. Lord only knows what last minute changes had to be done. And Brian Hitch's last interview was not what I would call a great plug for this 'event', and he drew the thing.

Having said that, I hope you guys enjoy. Let me know if it IS good Smiley

so anyone else reading this event.  typical of Bendis we really have no idea how we got to this point...the events are already a week old when #1 starts.

that being said...its been an interesting 4 issues so far...i think the near weekly release helps Bendis and makes it feel more is actually happening but so far its been pretty good and the art has been great.

not sure how they will end this devestation and/or hit the reset button, hopefully it will be satisfying.

one thing i am feeling is a bit of dejavu to Busieks Kang storyline when he take over the planet,

Couldn't resist so I hit my boy Dave up for his copies.

I come away, so far, on the opposite end of the spectrum from you, Wringer. I don't mind snails pace story telling, appreciate it usually, but this is pushing the limits. Wow, it is slow as hell. Also, I know this book was delayed for a long time, but this storyline is suppose to be happening NOW ( Wink), yet they didn't bother to change the script for Peter. This is suppose to be, according to Marvel (and Slott in particular) happening in the Marvel U right now (Doc as Spidey) but there is no way in hell that is Otto's voice.

But let's say Marvel has back-tracked on it being a "happening now" story. I still have one major ... MAJOR problem with issue #1 -
Spiderman is being held captive, yet the ONLY hero willing to go get him is Hawkeye? THE ONLY ONE? And then Hawkeye is told that if he goes to save Peter, not to come back? Bullshit. To borrow an ill-conceived marketing ploy by DC ... WTF?

And Cap, who has been through some shit in his day is sulking in a corner? Come on Bendis, total crap
.

A pure example of a writer FORCING characters to do what the writer wants them to do ... to make the writing easier, instead of making them act the way they would normally act.

Also the way Panther died. Really? What crap is that? The Black Panther can't land on his feet?
Roll Eyes

Having said that, I did really enjoy the reveal at the end of issue #3

What's te verdict now that we're 9 issues in?  I bowed out of buying this event but I'm still curious.

It admitedly took too long to get interesting. But once Wolverine and Invisible Woman traveled back in time, the series became a must-read, IMO. I can't wait for the next issue ever since that happened. But then I've always been a sucker for time-travel and alternate reality tales in comics.

I, like most times, am on the exact opposite side of the argument from Em ...  Smiley Sorry my man.

I have been reading it, and it is an utter waste of my time. I could tell you what is going on in about 2 sentences. This could have been over months ago, yet they have drawn this story out to 9 issues of nothing. This last issue, and its 7 pages of rubble ... oh, and Wolverine standing, and then passing out, and then standing again  Roll Eyes is just further proof of the extent they are streeeeeeeeeeeetching this story. This could have easily been a four issue mini.

And the events that took place when Sue and Wolverine went back ... We are talking about Sue Reed. Wife of the most famed brain in the Marvel U who has traveled many a time through space and time. She would have known that doing what they were doing was no answer. No way she does that. She knows better. As does Wolverine. I mean we are talking about a character that has to remember DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, yet suddenly, he doesn't care how the whole time thing works?  It just another example of writers using false characterization to advance the story they want to tell. Complete bullshit.

There is no value, for me, in this series even though I keep reading it just to see how ludicrous the issues are.  Of course now, I also can't wait for the last issue.

So my boy rushed issue #10 of this series over for me to read. I want to thank him and punch him square in the face for that.
 Grin

This has to be one of the most disappointing "events"/"series" that has come from Marvel in the last 20 years. And I am even including that dreadful FEAR ITSELF crap.

So, we finally see Ultron after 10 issues. Nice of him to make an appearance in his own title  Roll Eyes

Wolverine, knowing you can't change events by going back in history and changing time, kills Hank Pym to do just that ... to change events. He does this even though there IS NO OTHER WAY. He must kill Hank Pym. No other way.

2 issues later, they find another way.

The big reveal at the end of all this? two things -
1) Angela is now owned by Marvel so ... here she is ... Eh, okay
2) All the Marvel universes are now blending (Galactus going over to the Ultimate Universe) and time has been "broken". Broken because all the Marvel characters kept fucking around with time
 Roll Eyes

Look, I am not saying that there will not be cool things that come out of this, Hell, I am sure there will be, but 10 issues ... $40, is just too much to pay for what customers actually got here. Honestly, 10 issues for this?

Anyway, I look forward to the dead rising (thanks to time being broken) and Angela coming over from Image does have me more excited than it should, so there is always that.
