Oh boy, lots to say ...  ;D Too much even?  :D

Boss is out of town so I might get to read more this week. (Meaning I wonít have to join meetings off hours)  :D

SWEET!!!  8)

Going to Read Wolverine The Long Night to see how Percy is writing Wolverine. See if it persuades me to pick up the new series now or wait til it hits MU.

Wait!
Easy
 ;D
Just kidding, it may hit great for you!! I hope, as I know you like the character.

Batman #90

YUK!!!
Again, maybe it will hit for you. And again, I hope so  :)

Isola #10

Wait. Not enough to read. Less than usual.  :-\

1. Tales from the Dark Multiverse: Batman: Knightfall #1

This was just okay to me

2. Tales from the Dark Multiverse: Death of Superman #1

This was as well

3. Tales from the Dark Multiverse: Blackest Night #1

Can't remember ... I started it, but think I never got back to it  :-\ Not sure if that is good or bad?

4. Tales from the Dark Multiverse: Infinite Crisis #1

Didn't read this one. No idea why? Hmmm, must have just forgotten about it?

5. Tales from the Dark Multiverse: Teen Titans: The Judas Contract #1

Way more brutal this time around, but my favorite as well.  ;D

Marvel Comic #1000

An interesting idea, that I hope hits better on MU (because it is free ... kinda  ;D) It wasn't bad, but yeah, more a pretty interesting idea than great. But some of the pages were cool. The next one though? #1001 ... BAH!!!
 >:(

Birthright #41 - Get a little bit of origin for Lore which changes your perspective of the chosen one legend a bit.

Giant Size X-Men: Jean Grey & Emma Frost - Not often can you have a comic with almost no dialogue and pull it off.  I think they did here and sets up an upcoming major conflict me thinks.

Gideon Falls #21 - WHOA!  That cliffhanger at the end of this arc was a mind blower!  It'll be tough waiting until June for the next issue! (Actually comes out in May but I wait a month for the price drop)

Isola #10 - A bit of a reveal here that will affect Rook.  And now I have to wait until "Summer 2020" for the next issue.  Argh!

I'm waiting longer than that. It just isn't enough meat on the bones per issue anymore. It was always a super-fast, yet beautiful read, but I am now dedicating to wait for the completion. My eyes will have to wait to be happy.

I don't blame you.  Fortunately, the story moves slow enough it's easy to follow and remember where you left off.  Still if I weren't already invested this far, I might have waited for the collected version as well.

Five Years Vol 1: Fire in the Sky (Collects issues #1-5)

Issue 1 - Katchoo, Francine, & Motorgirl:  Good start to this series.  Catches us up to where we are in this world through the eyes of Katchoo.  Love the way these characters are written.  And a nice catch up with Sam (Motorgirl) as well.

Issue 2 - Rachel & Zoe:  Man I love seeing the Rachel Rising cast again.  And this issue doesn't disappoint.  I like the spy/thriller type issue!

Issue 3 - Julie & Ivy (from Echo), & Tambi: the start of putting a team together.  Great to see these characters again.  Rachel & Zoe: Continuation of the Russia job as things go from bad to worse to better.  Katchoo & Francine:  Gotta love it when Tambi interrupts these two.  You gotta love it because you know Francine won't!

Issue 4 - Katchoo, Francine, & Tabmi:  Whoa.  Some pretty intense drama.  Terry Moore's still got it when he pulls at the emotions.  Rachel: More story movement in Russia (don't want to spoil it).  I'm expecting some more big action in this storyline pretty soon.

Issue 5 - Zoe:  OMG - that was 10 of the best comic book pages I have ever read.  I love this girl.  Tambi & Cherry Hammer: Short interlude with these two, but impactful.  They need to use names more often as his characters can look a lot alike.  I didn't recognize Cherry Hammer and thought it was Julie from Echo.  Katchoo: And Bang.  The plan is officially kicked off.

Overall - great collection!  Love these characters and this is a fun series to have them all in.  It's got a Mission Impossible vibe with the lovely ladies of this world.  Thumbs way up.

THAT I didn't know!

Saw it the other day.  :) But how far along they are and if it will ever see light of day ...? That is a totally different question.  :D

Man, I screwed up last night and had a few drinks for the first time in ... awhile and spent a little too much on comics.
 :-\
Wife is ... not going to be what I would call overly happy when she wakes up in a few moments and I tell her warn her about it. She is going to have a few less green backs to spend on stuff when she goes to her next union meeting in New Hampshire in a couple weeks
 :o
But hey, that is what per diem is for, yeah?
 :D
(Maybe I shouldn't use that joke with her?)

Glad to hear itís still running Jeff! Yup, I had heard it was optioned to be a movie, which made me super leary, because at that time, they were taking a break from it, which to me meant, Ďuh ohí hereís another title not getting finished.

But then I read the newsarama article in January talking about it returning..issue 41...and itís going to a series end at #50! Yay! I love knowing what is planned!

Unlike that Damned Nick Spencer and Morning Glories. I didnít even read the last 12 issues before #50 and Ďseason 2í ending as I was buying the Ultimate Hardcover, and they never put out a number 4 dressÖ makes me wonder if Image knew Spencer was checking out/ítaking a breakí or whatever.

That was 4 years ago. Itís dead to me now.

But yeah Birthright!!

Like I didn't have enough to read ...

I decided to play a game. With the old ComicBook Data Base no longer a thing  :'( :'( :'(, I tried to find a comparable site. I failed, but I did find one that is kinda close ... kinda. I found the Marvel Fandom Database and while not as comprehensive as CBDB (but what was?) it does provide some information on each title. That is good, but not close to CBDB ... it doesn't show a complete list of creator stuff like the good ole CBDB did so well.  :-\

With that site, I could type in ... say John Byrne and each and every issue that John Byrne had a hand in (including Penciler, cover artist, inker, writer, etc ...) would be listed, and linked.  It was so damn good. Comicbook dot com has bought it, but their "Database" is horrid right now. I hope it gets better over time.

Anyway, going back to this new game, I decided that I when I join MU again, I would go to the site and click the "random comic" link and would read whatever issue it gave me
Just testing it and THIS (https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Ghost_Rider_Vol_3_4) is the first comic that came up. So yeah, I will read that when I join MU.

Stupid. You bet. But I was bored.

Give it a try if you want. In the big red banner, to the right of the "wrod balloon" you will see Marvel Database. But under the word Database, there is a pull down menu that states Comics. Put your mouse on that and click "Random", see what issue you get and give it a read.
 :D
They also have a "random" search under the character pull-down menu as well if you want to roll the dice that way.

Off now to see if there is a DC version of this site
 :)

EDIT -
And there is!! Yea!!!

Joker: Killer Smile #2
Joker: Killer Smile #3 - Jeff's favorite writer ... and one of mine as well ... Jeff Lemire comes on pretty strong on his (and fellow Gideon Falls creator and ex-Green Arrow artist Sorrentino's) three part Black Label mini. It wasn't mind-blowing or life changing, not for us anyway, and that's a spoiler hint ;), but it was pretty cool. Worth the money? I hate to say "no" as mileage will vary so let me approach it this way ... Am I happy I paid what I paid for it? No,   :D but I am glad I read it, so in the long run I think it will even out.

Since you didnít hate it I know Iíll be ok with buying it.   ;D

 :D
Well we can hope for that to be true  ;D

So in preparation for X of Swords, I decided to try and get back into the X-Books that I initially fended off from my list. I started with one of my least enjoyable titles that I had read during Hickman's first onslaught, Marauders. I read issue #9 just to see if I wanted to try and get back in and man, I gotta tell ya, I enjoyed it. Quite a bit. Well, we know where that lead me, yeah?
 ;D
I also went ahead and tried the last two issues of the other book that didn't wow me at first, Excalibur, and I think, as much as I want to get into it, I am just not that into this. That being said, it wasn't horrible. However, I feel this title, from what I read in that article I posted, will be an important one, so I may try and start over with it as well. We will see.

Excalibur #7
Excalibur #8 - I enjoyed #7 more than this by a good bit. Makes it even more confusing for me  :-\
Marauders #1 - Re-read
Marauders #2
Marauders #3 - I think I should have stayed on this title!!! Issue one is still not a great issue for me, but it does gain in its enjoyment quotient as it goes along. That is why there is a three issue rule, Perry!!!  :D Of course that rule was in effect when I was paying DCBS prices, so there is that
 ;D :D
Wait, should I return to that?
Oh man!!!
Am I really putting that in my head right now??

Okay, wait a minute ... all that said, I am going to now get to some of the issues that came out this past week that I really wanted to read, and give the X a break for a moment  8)

Ohhh, I can't stop thinking about DCBS ...
Damn it!!!
WHAT THE HELL DID I JUST DO!?!?!?!
 :o :o :o

Oh no, see? Because you are now wanting to read all of it, due to me wanting to read all of it, I now want to read all of it even more!!

It is like a sickness ... Comicnavirus!!!!
 :D

Only read one last night, but it was one I was really excited for.

Strange Academy #1 - A very typical start to a new series, especially one featuring almost all new characters, but it has all the cliches that I want  ;D

Much like when New Mutants first came out all those years ago, there is a cool unfamiliarity that I enjoy. Learning who these new characters are is going to be part of the fun.
Much like the X kids, we are getting "guest appearances" of some teachers, so I will get to see Daimon Hellstrom and Nico Minuro again!  ;D
Already there is the classic "opposites attract" going on between two kids that hate each other. One, a kid from Asgard (whose twin brother is also here) is being roomed with, get this ... Dormammu's kid?!?! Yep Doyle Dormammu is here. Love that!
Some of the other kids showcased here are, like I said above, going to be really cool to learn about. There are about 12 brand new characters! One kid, Thoth, from Weirdworld looks like a frozen or icy Man-Thing  ;D
There is a Frost Giant, a Half-Fairy from Otherworld, a demon from Limbo and a few human (or human looking) characters to fill out the crowd. Quite a large cast of new characters, but the good news are they are new. Not just thrown in as replacements for others  ;)

Oh, and the art is really good too. Of course I have always enjoyed Ramos' art, but he has actually eased his style down here. It is not as ... confusing looking as it has been at times in the past. It looks really good in its less stylized manner.

Jeff, I know you were not looking forward to this, at least not as much as I, but I do hope you give it a try in 6 months when it hits MU. I honestly think you will dig it.

Oh man! You know I wonít be able to resist going back and getting all that X stuff now!!!   >:(  ;D

I went back and looked and really, I only need Marauders and Excalibur to catch up and both of them have a TPB coming out in April that will be cheaper than grabbing the first six issues.  (But will I wait that long?)

Tales from Dark Multiverse Vol 1
          8. Blackest Night #1 - Wow! I forgot how good Geoff John's was and how great this mini was.  Watching..
Ralph and Sue Dibny kill Hawkman and Hawkgirl was brutal all over again.  I had forgotten that happened and wow that was just as big a gut punch as the first time!

          9. Infinite Crisis #1 - Another reminder of how John's used to get me excited to read DC Comics.  I didn't like everything he did to the universe, but it was always fun to read!

          10. Tales of the Teen Titans Annual #3 - I miss this Teen Titans!!  Nightwing - Changeling - Cyborg - Starfire - Raven - Wonder Girl!  And the end of the Terra storyline.  Never has there been a more tragic character.

;D Hard to tell. I will say that ... man ... I don't want to say it  ;D, but man, I am so up and down on this X stuff and I don't want to (keep) leading you in a direction that you may regret  ;D

I am still enjoying Marauders, but not as much as that issue #9 and then the subsequent issues #2 and #3, but I am now at the point where my lack of 90's/00's X stuff is lessening the "fun" a tad. There are, what I can only guess, are tons of references and lots of characters making their way into this world that I have no connection to at all, no idea who they are, and while I can take one or two characters that are new to me, having what seems like an entire universe of "related" X characters leaping out into my head all at once is kinda numbing.

It's weird too as I felt the exact opposite with Strange Academy. All of these new characters hit me as "Oh, I am gonna love learning about these guys", while here, all of these "new to me" characters leave a very dissimilar feeling. Odd, that.

I guess it is the fact that other readers already know about these characters and so they are written in a manner that accommodates that. Maybe? While the new characters are ... well, new  ;D and they are being written in a different way?

Now heck, for all I know some or all of these new X characters are new, but I highly doubt that, based on dialog and things that I have been shown. For example -
They show the way Sebastian Shaw's son, Shinobi (no idea who this guy is, other than his son, of course) was killed so I can only guess that is from a 90's X-Men arc, but I have no connection to that character.
and of course there are a lot more people running around that may be very cool to past readers, so that is why I think you will dig this, but at the same time I don't want you to not like it because you don't like some of those very same characters.
 ;D

I don't know man, just use your own judgement and don't listen to me about anything X related.
 ;D ;D

That said, I did get a few more in and I am starting to enjoy it again ;D and hell, I can always use a wiki to let me know who is who, huh?:D :D

Marauders #4
Marauders #5
Marauders #6
Marauders #7 - Sadly, I was spoiled by the upcoming cover to issue #11, so please don't try and see that, Jeff :-\, but I still had a very good, although slight, emotional reaction to some things in the last issue. Not over powering, I don't mean to over sell it, but yeah, even as small as it was I felt just a little, very little, twinge when somethings happened. Pretty good stuff, although I hope the art can settle in. Sometimes I don't enjoy the "Archie" like style of one of the artists (Pennino, I think). I prefer the latest issue's art by Casseli, even compared to that of Lolli, whom I don't mind, but none of the artists are a deal breaker either way.
Only one more issue to go and I will be caught up on this title, although I may (probably will) skim back through issue #9 just to put the period on the sentence.  ;D

I read your spoiler and to those of us versed in the X-World it really isnít a spoiler.  That character ran the Hellfire club for a few years and was an interesting villain.  If anything it makes me more interested.

That's exactly what I thought  ;D

But for me, or guys that missed all that 90's X stuff, we are flying more blind than normal here
 ;D

But its fine. We will get by well enough. Maybe.

Marvel Comic #1000 - I liked this.  I'm assuming the Black Raider shows up at some point in Immortal Hulk?  Or did Ewing get another book?

Well, what can I say that wouldn't be spoilers? I will only say this ... I don't remember the Black Panther aspect of the story soooo ...
 ;D

Okay, honestly, while I liked how Ewing tied all this in, I have yet to see anything come from it. Other than Marvel 1001 of course.  ;D
There is something here, with... let's just call it "the mask" and all and maybe I just missed it when they dove more into that, but I haven't seen anything, though I am hopeful to see something at some point.

Breevort came to Ewing with the idea of making a one page history of the MU, tied together by something and Al did a good job of it, but not sure if the higher-ups want anymore of it or not?
 :-\

That said, I am caught up on Marauders now and just in time for the new week to begin. Maybe Excalibur now?!  ;D

Marauders #8
Marauders #9 (Reread) - Yep, on the upswing again!  ;D
