Return of Wolverine 1, 2, & 3 - I'm glad he's back but I'll be happier when this story is done and he's off to new great adventures.

Shatterstar 1 & 2 - Meh.  Doubt I'll finish this.  The only cool thing in it is the talking Pug.

Astonishing X-Men 16 & 17 - Kind of a bummer ending for this title.  I won't miss Greg Land's art.  I hate his Dazzler.  I hope they put this team back together for Hickman's X-Men.  I like the dynamics.

Starting slow, but trying to keep it like a vitamin, one a day, Perry. One a day. (I'm a little ahead of that at least)
 ;D

Black Hammer: '45 #4 - Last issue and honestly, not that great. I know Jeff hated the art, and I can understand why, but more than that, the story was kinda boring. It started out pretty well. I think even after issue #2 I was digging the story, and even with last episodes battle which was okay (though not overly exciting thanks to said art) this series still ends up being unnecessary. Sure, all comics can go under that name at some point compared to somethings, but unless we have a payoff down the line coming, there is/was no reason to buy this mini. I hate to say it, but it was almost like a Lemire cash grab. I hope he settles back in and doesn't continue to take his Black Hammer for granted
 :-\

So out of those three issues ... man, who'da thought that a Dynamite comic would be up for comic of the week? So far it is well ahead of the competition.
 ;D
Peter Cannon: Thunderbolt #5 Once again Gillen wows me. This book amazes me. This is like no other Dynamite comic and that is an understatement  :D This is like ... like ... man, well, I will use the name that has recently reared his head here, it is like an Alan Moore title. It is very surreal to say the least. This is Watchmen's Ozymandias going up against Watchmen's Ozymandias! That is the best way to describe it. Different realities are indanger as a super-smart hero, Peter Cannon, using his scrolls to learn all there is, all kinds of mental powers, trying to stop his alternate realty counterpart; Peter Cannon, who has plans on killing or deleting other realities to save just one? Really cool, really trippy. Not one to read when you are tired, but a very good run if you are in the mood for a mental read.
 :D

Amazing Spider-Man #22 - Ummm ... the time for Kraven is over. I enjoyed this arc, honestly, a lot, even though it was a tad strung out, I enjoyed it. Until this last issue. It left me cold. It left me wishing that Karven and his son should just stay away. Do you remember Kraven's wife and daughter? From a storyline line about ... what 10 or so years ago. That was fun. I think that was the last Kraven story I enjoyed. Ha, get it? The Last Kraven Story?!?!?!
Ahem
Anyway, yeah, I think you could really enjoy this arc, it is old school fun. Doesn't make a lot of sense in reality, but comics seldom did back when they were really fun  ;D, but just skip the ending if you do read this. This issue, while it wraps everything up, is better left unread. Just fill in your own ending and you will be fine
 ;D

Even though Lemireís name is on it I think Ray Fawkes wrote the lion share of it.

Oh, I know, and that is what I was talking about. Now I may have went too far, with the cash grab comment  ;D but that is what it felt like. I know you want to get some history in your universe, but yeah, make it worth it, ya know.

Now true, Black Hammer itself went through a lull a little bit ago, so maybe that is all this was, just a universal yawn to regroup some oxygen to the title.
Still, nothing great happened here but it isn't as bad as what crime "novelist" James Paterson does  ::) he just pays other writers and puts his name on the book to sell it

Oh yeah, I agree with what you said.  Just adding that he's starting to farm out the writing.  This and crossing over with DC.  Concerns me that he's spreading too thin and that the universe will start to lose quality.  I think it works best when it's contained tightly and he writes anything in the universe.  I should clarify, I'm not greatly concerned.  Just raising one eyebrow like Spock.

Uncanny X-Men 1, 2, & 3 - Yeah this was...good!  A lot..and I mean..A LOT is going on here.  It's hard to get too invested since I know these are all getting cancelled to make way for Hickman but I like it so far.  My only complaint - why on earth did they go back to that 90's costume for Jean.  Ugh.  It's gotta go.

Hey, far be it for me to point fingers at people reading things they could/should wait on  :D, but yeah, this is a prime example of a book I thought you were going to hit up once it hit the DCU. But again, this is certainly a case of the pot calling the kettle black, so take that with a grain of salt (can I get anymore similes or analogies in there?)
 ;D
But hey if you like it, why wait yeah?
 :)

I didn't care for it too much when I flipped through it a few weeks back, but I like the writer and I didn't read it thoroughly so I could easily missed something (as I am want to do)
 :D ;D

What I knocked out over the last couple of days -

Red Sonja #3
Red Sonja #4 - Still enjoying this but if it were any other writer than Mark Russell (Flintstones) I think I'd be off
Redneck #18
Redneck #19 - Wow, Yeah Jeff, I think the wedding did have some problems, huh?  :D Going to read #20 tonight (couldn't stay awake to read it last night), but man, issue #19 set the stage for ... some stuff!!!  ;D Looking forward to #20!!!!

Female Furies #4 - ALRIGHT! Back to the goodness! Granny Goodness.  ;D #5 tonight. I'm pumped again
Legion of Super-Heroes (1956) #19
Legion of Super-Heroes (1956) #20 - Sent Jeff a couple pics from this ;D Speaking of which, I need your cell#, Jimmy
Batman #72 - If I wasn't such a Bat'fan, I think I would wait on this title for DCU myself. A 17 page recap issue basically  >:( Not trying to pile on King after HiC, but ...  >:(

Guardians of the Galaxy Annual #1 - Meh, an okay annual that sets up the next couple issues.
Incredible Hulk: Last Call #1 - Not sure why I read this. Yes I am, Peter David, Dale Keown, Hulk one-shot ;D
Uncanny X-Men #19 - Jeff, enjoy it while you can. Since the announcement of Hickman, well, a couple months before, this title has been ... not as good. I think Marvel broke my Rosenburg  >:( I think I am off this and will just jump back in with the last issue, in-case Hickman wants something set-up before he starts.

*******************************************

Black Hammer: '45 #4
Peter Cannon: Thunderbolt #5

Amazing Spider-Man #22

Made it through some more last night, more than I thought I would for sure.

And oh yeah, when I asked Jimmy for his cell, I didn't mean to intentionally leave anyone else out of the loop, so if you want some interesting things (or not interesting things  :D) hitting your text threads every so often, drop me your cell in a private message. Sometimes I just feel like sharing interesting stuff I see and it is a lot easier to do it that way than load and post here (like an image of the Legion's Dawnstar I just came across the other day). And don't worry, I don't hit it too often. And also don't feel bad if you would not like me to have your number. I won't take that personal. I get it!
 8)

Now as for what I read last night -

Redneck #20 - Okay now, things are about to pop off even more as the coup is starting to form its members. And how about Perry (the character in the book, not me  ;D) showing ... well ... yeah!!!

Freedom Fighters #6 - I totally forgot I was going to wait and read this when it was finished. Oops
Female Furies #5 - One issue left and I think this mini is a winner. Dropped a tad early, but its back!
DCeased #1
DCeased #2 - An Elseworlds story that I was going to wait on, but no way I can now  :D DC's Marvel Zombies.
Justice League #25 - I have to stop reading and start over. There is just too much going on. Need a refresher
Justice League Dark #10 - Man this was good. So good I am going to read issues #8 and #9 again, the start of this arc, before reading issue #11. Not because there is too much going on at one time and I need to re-read to grasp it better like I do with JL proper (soooo much happening in that title from Source Wall, to Creator, to Negative Enemies, to Lex and Doom, to Trees, to ... WHOAH), but that this arc is so cool I want to go back a couple issues and soak it all in, again, before moving on. Lots of good stuff here, especially for fans of the Lords of Order!!!

I was talking more about my short boycott ...

Oh yeah, I know. I still just figured that would be one you waited on. Not sure why, but now you have me curious about it and what I may have missed. Hahaha . I am going to try and hold off though and just wait the year.
 ;D

Ice Cream Man 1 - Well that was weird.  I love it!

Odd thing is, in my opinion, that is the worst one. I mean, I liked the dual identity with the Wolfman and Icecream ... dude :D, but I almost dropped it after that issue as it didn't hit me as an "oh yeah" issue or anything. Issue #2 is another one I wasn't sure about while reading it, although I liked it better, but there was something in this book that crept into my head. Then, that same night, I had a dream about the series and so I just had to give issue #3 a shot after that. Anytime a creepy/weird title gets in my brain like that I listen!!!
I was then hooked.
I am still mad about something, but I can't tell you what that is until you get to a certain point as I don't want to say anything about the issues. Let them take you on a personal ride. See where you go with the series. Ha

Went ahead and re-read issue #9 of Justice League Dark, to get myself more familiar with what I just read in issue #10 (and what I read a month ago, man it is getting bad, my memory. Won't be long until I have to go trades 100% ... or at least save up a bunch of issues and read them all at once (come on DC, recap pages  ;D!!). Also tried to look for #8 at the LCS today to no avail, to read issues 7 through 11 to gt a full reread on, but no issue 8 killed that idea. I think I remember it well enough, but I 100% suggest, to any fan of DC Magic stuff, to get Justice League Dark issues 7-12 for this is a cool stoty (? ... or at least up to #11 it is, issue 12 isn't out yet so I cant say if that is good or not, but I sure hope so)
 :)

Justice League Dark #9 (reread)
Justice League Dark #10 (reread)
Justice League Dark #11 - Great story featuring the Lords of Order and what their plan is to stop the evil that is spreading into this universe. A quest appearance by Mordru, and I have to say ... a better Mordru I have seldom seen. So vile, so mean, so damn cool!!! Unlike the last arc, the Witching Hour, which I found ... okay look, it wasn't horrible but it was nothing to praise either ... I fully endorse this arc. Read it and enjoy!! You may even want to start at issue #6 as that is where the Blue Devil ... well ... just get it

I'm reading through the Action Comics on my list and I'm on issue #1010.

Still reading it but had to share this "teaser" with Perry.  Even though I'm hiding it, it's not really a spoiler but the tease will likely get Perry excited.

YEAH IT DID
 ;D

Saw her in the back of a lot of DC comics this week as well. For the in-house ads for ... the Leviathan mini, I think it was. And that makes sense with this being Action.

Now I have to see how far behind on Action I am ...  :D

EDIT Darn it, I am up to date.
And Jeff, if you think THAT got me, wait until you see a panel in 1011
 ;D

Action Comics 1007-1011 - Oh man!  I am so glad I got caught up on this today!!  Event Leviathan starts Wednesday so I added that to the subscribe list.  This was amazing. There were a couple of Bendis babble's out of Jimmy Olsen that would drive Jimmy nuts but I really hope he reads this.  This is going to be a CLASSIC Superman arc.

And Jeff, if you think THAT got me, wait until you see a panel in 1011

Yes - I know EXACTLY which one you mean!  It did the same for me.  I really can't wait to read Event Leviathan!!

Enjoy it if you do! Superman is a great character!!!

Jeff,

Thanks for the heads up on Shatterstar! I had saved it in the queue, thinking 'eh, what the hell!'

Nevermind!!

Just realized I missed this, sorry!

Yeah, you can dodge a bullet on this one.  Glad I could help!

Yes - I know EXACTLY which one you mean!  It did the same for me.

Right? It was awesome  :D

Event Leviathan starts Wednesday so I added that to the subscribe list.

Hey my man, be sure to grab the "Leviathan Rising Special" one-shot that hit this past week. It is an 80plus page monster but it really has a nice set-up to the story. It also has three short stories. All three tie into this one-shot story while also, in the case of Supergirl, ties into recent events in her series Supergirl (I guess ... I finally stop reading that title and we get a tie-in?) but with the other two, it sets up both of the new 12 issue maxi series starring Lois Lane (by Rucka) and Jimmy Olsen (by Fraction).

Again, both of those also tie into this one-shot story, but it gives us a look at what both new series will look like (especially with the absolute hilarious Olsen short story by Fraction ... man that was funny when you find out ... well ... I don't want to spoil it  ;D)

I do want a favor though if I may ... if/when you read that, could you please tell me what you think the ending with ... okay, there is no way to ask this without spoiling something, so just let me know when you read it and I will ask my question.
 :)

Sorry guys, I have no faith that Bendis will actuallyl close the deal and make it grand, start to finish. Not his m.o.

I understand your hesitancy and reasoning  ;D Like Jeff said, its been proven. We're are hopeful that this turns out differently. It's all we can do  ;D

Superman is a great character!!!

Now I wouldn't go THAT far  ;) :D

Ice Cream Man 2 - Creepy and sad.  Just say no to drugs, kids.

Sad indeed.
"Ole Jim here isn't looking so hot"
Yes, stay away from ... that kind of drug
 ;)

Ice Cream Man 3 - Trippy...and sad.  Loved the trip down rock and roll lane...

Yeah it was cool seeing Ziggy and all the Beatles stuff !!!!

Ice Cream Man 4 - And now it's getting REALLY interesting.

The Man in Black!!

Great book.  Perry you were right about this one.  Sooooo weird and twisted.  Very Twilight Zoney.

Glad to hear you like it. Always scary suggesting a book and with the way this one works, there was no way I could tell you to take a chance on it  :D :D However, I'm glad you dove in on your own and are digging it.
I skimmed back through a couple issues and ... Issue #5 is the one that is most talked about, #6 is the one you saw the preview of and #7 is actually a happy one? Well, except for that one guy  ;D and the last one I will speak of is #8 and I will only say I think that is my favorite. Or at least one of them
 ;)

Holy Crap ... brb

*rushes to see what the cover price was*

A $10 book  :o

Can you image, back when there were spinner racks and we were giddy about spending a buck or two and getting 4 to 8 comics, seeing that?
Now true, I guess it is the size of 4 comics, give or take, so that averages out to be about $2.50 per 20 pages, cheaper than the $3.99 for 22 pages, but still, again, can you imagine being 11 years old and seeing a book for $10? I don't there were trades for that price.
 ;D
Anyway, good book. But nothing is worth that much. Glad you got a deal, but I could have just told you what happened
 ;D
Nah, you had to see the Jimmy Olsen story.
OOKSTORE

He might have had an aneurysm If I had wanted that for one book!

I will read it again someday, but have been scared to even look at it, thinking it would be so dated it isn't even funny. Glad it is still a good read!!!!!

HA!! Well sweet!! Ellis may be clairvoyant  ;D Or maybe it did a full circle  ;D

And hey, now I'm not trying to get you to read anything else, Jeff  ;D (or Jimmy for that matter  ;D), but do you still read JLDark? I know you used to read it, but I haven't recognized seeing it on your list lately. Maybe I just missed it, though. Let me know when ya can.

As for this week, I was able to finish pretty strong over the last two days and well into last night. Well "strong" for me anyway.  ;D

Dark Red #3 - Best issue of this Vampire tale yet. An origin tale set in WWII. I Love that era so that helped
DieDieDie #7
DieDieDie #8 - Finally made it to the end of the first run. It got a little crazy there at the end, ya know, the last 7 issues  ;D, but still, I enjoyed it and it had the ending that it had to have, yeah?

Superman Leviathan Rising Special #1 - Said enough about this already. Waiting on Jeff. "Oh Jeeeeeff"  ;D
Legion of Super Heroes #21
Legion of Super Heroes #22
Legion of Super Heroes #23 - Was reading this when the Bendis news hit *sigh* .... Nope. Think positive, Perry!!!
Detective Comics #1001
Detective Comics #1002
Detective Comics #1003
Detective Comics #1004
Detective Comics Annual #2 - Another of those "let's revise the past" type of stories that shows us stuff that I feel Batman should have known about. Ya know, like the whole Court of Owls thing?  ;D Still, it was fun ... or is fun as the story isn't over yet. Not sure this ... character ... will go down as anything more than a blip on the screen when all is said and done, and in-fact I hope they end/die in this arc so it is a send off they deserve. I just can't see this as a reoccurring character. I am not bashing the character, I do like them, but again, just best for one story I feel. And that is a good thing. Nothing wrong with that. I think Tomasi is doing a fine job and man, he does Damian so damn well. I also dig the art a lot.

Honestly, in regards to Bendis doing Legion ... after rereading Levitz older stuff many years later ... man, I think Bendis will be fine to have, at least for awhile. This stuff I am reading now ... it is pretty rough stuff. It has not aged well at all. There seems to be, essentially, about 5 forms of dialog that Levitz uses and he just switches what characters use the various forms each arc. Currently, Mon-El is portraying the hot head. Before that it seemed like Lightning Lass was playing the Wildfire character, being just bitchy. Before her, I think it was Shrinking Violet that was the Wildfire character. And I don't mean that they are just ... being abrasive or having a hard time, no, they literally take on the voice of Wildfire. We all know he is the "hothead" of the group, but man, it is like there is a new Wildfire every arc. There are more examples of other characters sounding like other characters, and I can't seem to think of any right now, of course, and perhaps as I was saying, perhaps that is the issue with having a large cast of characters ... they all start sounding like other characters, but I think it could be done better than this at least.

But heck, maybe it is just me? Maybe I just am having a hard time "right now" hearing the voice that is on the page? All I know is that I am having a hard time with the way Levitz dialogs these characters currently and sadly, Levitz IS these characters for most of the Legion's existence.

Maybe I will jump ahead a few years or maybe just start reading the Five Years Later Legion written by Levitz's cohort, Keith Giffen
