Yeah that was a great game.  Amazes me how we beat teams we shouldn't be able to and lose to ones we should easily beat.  We need to play like that more consistently if we want to win in the playoffs.

How are the Bruins doing?  I haven't looked yet.

they had a nice shutout (5-0) against the Ilanders last night and are current in 2nd place in the East with 97pts (same as 1st place Calgary in west) ...behind Tampa's 116 and ahead on 3rd place Caps at 93.

That's good - sounds like you have the tougher conference this year.  Hmmm or easier depending on your perspective.

Aaaaaannnnnnnddddd......

I have playoff tickets!  I'm about to head out to my first playoff game here at home.  Love it that my office is about 5 blocks from the stadium.  It will only take me 10 minutes to get there.

Round 1 Game 3

Go Stars!

That's awesome to go!

I'm sorry they lost. The Preds were always a bit of a secondary favorite team for me. A brutal hard hitting team! But I'm not behind them much. Sorry the Stars are down 2-1 now.

Yeah, that sucks going to a home game and your boys lose. Sorry man  :-[ But hey, they still in it at least.

And I have been out of hockey so long it took my pain management doctor talking about it to even know the Islanders were good again.
 :D
He had said he had been watching the playoffs, I told him I use to be an Islanders fan (back when the Sutter brothers were there) and he said he was one as well and that he was going to go to one of the games at ... whatever center he use to go to when he lived in Jersey ... and see a playoff game.
Not sure if he went to it already, hope so as they are winning ... I guess.  :D

One thing I still hate about most league's playoffs (other than NFL) ... you almost can't not make the playoffs  :D Always seems like over half of the teams get in.

i feel ya Jeff...my Bruins lost last night too.  They had such a good game 2 that 3 looks like amatures.  i blame no extra travel day.  they gave both the Stars and Bs an extra day between games 1 & 2 but not after travel.

loving the ilanders kicking (so far) the Penquins butts.  tons of respect for the Pens but love to see them loose (similar to rest of US hating my Pats :) ).

Also loving the Lightning being shut out so far.  Best team in the regular season cut low by a wildcard team

As disappointing as the loss was I will say going to a playoff game is a whole different level of experience.  The whole place was electrified.  Didn't hurt that the bartender we've been going to for the past three years between periods gave us all a free round of drinks at the start.

I'm going again on Wednesday so hopefully we can tie it up before going back to Nashville.  My best friend from child hood lives in Nashville now and is a Predator's fan.  We've had some fun back and forth over this series.

I agree with Wringer on the other games.  Been a lot of fun to watch.  I'm also rooting for the Cane's to beat the Capitals but that's not looking very likely.

The Islanders and the Blue Jackets both swept their rounds and are heading to the second round.

Islanders - I can't believe they made an empty net goal from the face off.

Blue Jackets - I can't believe the Wild Card team knocked off the #1 team in the League.  And crushed them while doing so.  Wow.

Title: Re: NHL 2018/2019 - Hockey!
Post by: Perry on April 17, 2019, 09:23:35 AM
GO ISLANDERS!!!!

I knew they could not only win, but sweep the series. I have been saying for months, being the hardcore fan that I am, that I know that team like the back of a strangers hand.
 :D

If they get past the next round, will that be enough to get me back into hockey? Are hockey games even televised here anymore? I honestly have not seen anything NHL related advertised here for at least 4 or 5 years, and I flip through a shit load of stations.
 ;D
Plus I found out a couple days ago that my Admirals, the local hockey team that was once in the AHL and farm team to Anaheim Ducks, are no longer in that league as the Ducks dropped us for San Diego ... way back in 2015!  ;D Yeah, I am out of the loop.
Now the Admirals linger in the ECHL where in the last three years we have, apparently, finished 7th, 6th and 6th out of 7 teams in our conference  :D Averaging a whopping 214 goals for and a hefty 272 goals against during that time period.
 ;D
I did really enjoy going to their games back in the day. Cheap night out, with expensive beer and only about 15 down the road. Not sure why I stopped going. Must have been that beer pricing.
 :D

Edit - doing a little research, I see that Jeff also has an ECHL not too far from him, don't ya buddy? I mean, not right down the street by any means, but still
 :D

 ;D

All games are televised....typically 3 or 4 games per day for round 1 on NBC affiliate.
most games are on NBCSN, CNBC and/or USA during the week with a couple of weekend games going to NBC

they've got the NHL contract about 8yrs or so ago from ABC/ESPN

ever since, ESPN rarely acknowledges that Hockey even exists

F**k ESPN and their lack of hockey coverage. Call yourself a sports network? Then show all the sports! Shows about fantasy fakkin' football, but not Hockey? PIss off you shitbag channel.

I say that every year, going back, oh, I dunno, 20 years.

That said, PLAYOFF HOCKEY!!!

Hell YEAH Islanders killing the Pens! Suck it Crosby, you crybaby b!tc#, without a single goal in 4 games. HA! (okay, yeah the bastard has 3 Cups already, but whatever, it's this year now!!!)

And holy CRAP, can Torterella's teams play out of their mind in the playoffs still! Love seeing Bobrovsky being great, especially since my Flyers essentially ran him out of town because they are a)morons, and b) idiots. But destroying the 'best' team in the NHL in 4 games? Like it was nothing? WOW!!!

And I'm a bit of a Caps fan; Ovechkin plays hockey the way I want to see hockey played. And with so many of the same, or similar type guys around him, I'm a fan of the team too. Love that he got the monkey off his back last year. How about back to back?

Bruins...way to climb back to great respectability! I don't have a finger on them, so I'm not sure how hot they are right now, but I do know they are playing well at the right time here.

And I thought Calgary was really good? Down 2-1 to the AValanche? By the way, THE AVALANCHE are in the playoffs again? What is this, 1997? (if I"m way off about this team, sorry, I'm more an Eastern Conference kinda guy ;D

I love this first and second round; games on nearly nightly for 2 and a half weeks! Watching the tempers flare, the increased pace and sometimes desperation of play; nothing like it!!!

Nothing lick Playoff Hockey....NOTHING

Great wins for the Stars and the Bs...very happy both series are now tied.

Totally Agree....FU(K ESPN

As for the Avalanch...close, 1996 was thier 1st, with the great Patrick Roy and probably one of the best defencemen to every play the game, Ray Bourque (Traded from the Bruins the yr before after 20yrs so he could get a Cup because Harry Sinden had no desire to give the Bs anything to win)

I was right behind the visitor goal for all of that - Row 13.  I can honestly say it was the greatest hockey game I've ever been to.  The Stars were on fire and the crowd was electrified.  I think the building was shaking.  Where has THAT Stars team been all year? ? ? ?

I didn't even realize that they won the series 4-2!! ON to more hockey!!

Bruins looked great their last 2 games.

I believe the Caps will convincingly so show a win at home for game 7.

Sharks and Knights right now? Man,...I don't know. I always felt like the Sharks were like the 'San Diego' Chargers-great in the regular season, but you could always count on them losing in the playoffs no matter what.

I'm wondering how the Islanders will be in the second series.

Yes, it was so nerve racking going into overtime.  I hate overtime!

Bruins wrap up their series.

If the Cane's could squeak out a win against the Cap's that would mean that all 4 #1 teams would be knocked out in the first round.  How crazy would that be?

I think the Knights can pull off a win in San Jose.  They're up 1-0 at end of the 1st.  I'm going to bed so I'll see how it ended up tomorrow.   ;D

gotta love OT...anything can happen.

Now if the Caps can loose tonight then all 4 top seated teams are out

The Bs won nicely last night though the 2nd period was shaky at best.  Round 2 bring us the BlueJackets...this will be a 1st as the Bs have never face the Jackets in the playoffs which makes sense since they have never gotten out of round 1.  Season history was pretty even and i am definately a little concern with a team that could dismantle the Lightning like they did but i'm also hoping that was more of a fluke.  either way it should be a fun series

And my Western conference Team (The Stars) are on their way to face the Blues (my 2nd WCT) which should be a lot of fun.

I am shocked that there will soon bw 32 teams in the NHL  :o :o :o

Last time I actively watched hockey, there were 21 or 22 teams, and that was with the latest expansion of ... the Sharks ... I think?

I will say that I have always thought the NHL playoffs were a joke. It just seemed like if you had a hockey stick and you knew what a puck was you made the playoffs, especially back in the 80s/90's when I was watching. There were 21 teams and 16 made the playoffs? Over 72%? COME ON!!!

I guess it is a lot better now. Don't get me wrong, it is still high with over 50% of the teams making the playoffs (soon to be a well rounded half and half  ;D), but I get why. The sport, although crazy popular in Canada, I am sure, is not on the lips of most Americans (I had know idea there were not still 22 teams for example  ;D) and having a lot of your teams make the playoffs gives the fans (and owners) more to root for.

That said, sorry for your game one loss, Jeff. Still plenty of time. And with the team you have ... not a problem
(Like I know what I am talking about?)
 :)

Like there is nothing to say he's hurt today in the news, so ok. But take a little more time with the athletic trainer before resuming play. He was not prepared for the the next goal, and that times any chance to avoid a road game 7.

This was actually the first Stars action I've seen... And I won't lie.. They didn't look good in the second period, when I came in to watch. Am I off base with that thought?

Title: Re: NHL 2018/2019 - Hockey!
Post by: Jeff on May 06, 2019, 07:46:19 PM
They normally look sloppy in the 2nd, IMO.  They tend to pull it out in the third which, of course, makes me crazy.  Usually a strong 1st and 3rd is how we win it.  When we do lose, I'm used to it being only a 1 or 2 point loss.  4-1 was just horrible for us.

An amazing goalie performance wasted by his team's shitty response to the opposition. Sorry Jeff.

And then the damn goal was just from unlucky bounces and hops too!  I know the Stars fought and clawed to make the playoffs, so here's to hoping that really builds for next year!

the 2nd and 3rd were abysmal!  i think the Stars had a total of 5 shots over 40mins of play!

they played much better in OT but to little to late, the Blues were bound to get past Bishop based on volume alone.

Good season cut short as i was hoping for a Stars v Bs Final.

the Bs looked like the Stars for a good chunk of the 1st and most of the 2nds.  Came alive with like 8mins left and never looked back.

Couple of stupid penalties by the caines gave the Bs the change to really jump in and do some damage.  once done they commanded the 3rd on to a 5-2 win.

I need the 2nd half team to show up for the remained of this series

a little of both.  I feel the Bs have a good chance but nervous about the long wait until next Monday.  they played almost every other day through the first rounds and were really in sync. But then again 10 days off can fix a lot of bumps/bruises.

Either way i am looking forward to it.
