Title: Venom
Post by: Perry on April 25, 2018, 12:57:18 AM
Love Tom Hardy. Other than Dunkirk, I can't think of a bad (overrated) movie he has been in. Not really.
However, I also can't recall a movie, set in modern times, that had sand buggys in them that turned out to be a good movie.

Venom? Has both.
Oh boy which way will the pendulum swing?
 :D

I do not like the Carnage powers of the symbiote blasting out to bludgeon it's strike others. Then again, I haven't enjoyed Venom the character since the DeMatteis days, so maybe that power is current!

i'm not sure how i feel about this movie.  The storyline seems better than I initially thought it would be, but I'm a little leery of that CGI.  Not having Spidey in it also gives me a big pause.

Exactly how I feel. The scenes look top notch and well acted with Hardy's impactful presence and then you get the Venom action stuff and it just looks ... cheap. Like a low budget "B" movie. Not sure they could do better with it, just that it still looks off. Maybe it will show better later?

I agree the trailer looks a lot better than I had expected but I've never cared for Venom.  I doubt I'll be seeing this one.

After trailer 3... I just don't know what to think of this.

I know I will not step foot in a theater for this.
(Not that I was going to beforehand)

Same here.  And only a "maybe" for watching it on Netflix.

Probably gonna pass.  Just doesn't really interest me.

I can think of one.
"Your grandma took a spill at the sand dunes today. Broke her coccyx...: ;)  :D

Okay, alright, while this isn't a total change for me, I am a little, just a tad, more hopeful about this after seeing this final trailer.
Am I still nervous, oh yeah, but with this clip I can at least see the potential in the effects that I could not see before.

Maybe this won't be as bad as I feared?

I'll see it because I'll have to know.

Know what it's like. Know how bad it is. I'll have to know for myself. That way I can ask "why" when it's over.

The hospital I work for gives employees free movie passes for their birthday so I decided to use mine on Venom.  I'm glad I did.  Only because it meant I didn't pay real money to see this movie.  Once again, Sony shows why they shouldn't be allowed to make Marvel movies.

Ouch.  That bad eh?

Saw this today (Christmas) while in the hospital with my mother-in-law (lack of oxygen to her heart ... all is fine now  :)) and have to say that there were parts I really liked. It still seemed like 4 different movies, but yeah, wasn't as bad as I thought or initially feared from seeing the first ten minutes or so.

I thought the first section was pretty damn bad, but once the "6 months later" text appeared it got vastly better, for a few, before changing to a different tone and then it got kinda odd and then it got good again and then not so much and then okay, but another different movie, bufore finding its feet and ending strange but okay.

That is my "Venom like" review of Venom
 :)

A "better than it sounds"  ;) 6.5 out 10

Ok or an 11 year old?  My daughter keeps begging me to let her watch it.

I would say no. But it is close.

It has no sex ... that I can remember  :D just a scene of
them hinting about it at dinner and then them back at the crib kissing passionately, followed by them sleeping and then waking up the next day
and I don't remember too, too much cursing, I am sure there was a lot if I think hard enough to remember (sadly, like most people I am getting too accustomed to the language of the dolt ... And I am including myself in that description  :D) But the main thing I would worry about, even though the blood level was not that high considering all the decapitations, loss of limbs, etc ... ya know, typical Venom stuff  :D ... is the one scene where ... lets just say there was a person that had to endure a lot of pain. That scene alone may just be too intense for someone that age.

That being said, everyone is different and her maturity level may be high enough to handle it. I know my best friends daughter would be fine watching it, as she is like a 30 year old  :D and another whose kid would be fine as he has let his son watch worse  :-\, but I know of one other kid who I have 100% faith would struggle with the movie and not just due to that one scene I was talking about. And the scene is not THAT big a deal. It goes by pretty darn fast, but I think ... just think ... if I was say ... 10 years old ... that scene would have gotten to me.
 :D
Maybe.

Unfortunately, I think it is going to have to come down to you watching it first and then making the call. I can see you letting her watch it without having any issue or problem, but then again I would hate for you to get mad at me when that scene (or something else I have forgotten) hits and you suddenly get fire in your eyes.
 :D :D :D :D

Besides, there are much better films for her to watch  :D

(Just to sidetrack for a second, I watched that New Shane Black "The Predator" movie and almost half way through I am asking "Why is everyone hating on this movie? I think it is awesome". It was fun, high action, well acted, everything was good. And then a little bit later, about halfway through the movie it happened. Not just one or two, but ALL the wheels just fall off the engine and it suddenly becomes the train wreck everyone says it is ... I was so pissed)

Thanks for the info Perry.  I'll watch it without her and then decide but based on what your saying I'm betting it's a no-show for my gal.  She likes to think she is older and more mature than she really is.
