Title: Batman & Flash - The Button

Batman 21 - Part One

Nice start.  I decided to go ahead and pick this up in "real time" rather than waiting to catch up on the Batman & Flash issues I haven't gotten too.  I'm really not expecting any true answers out of this event.  I imagine we'll get a tease and then just have more questions.  And they'll have me eating out of their hands the whole way.

What a kicker about
Thawne. Not that I wanted him back, or even to mention Flashpoint in any kind of instance,
 but shit...what is going on!! ?   :D :D

That was crazy and totally unexpected!  Gave the story a good beginning though for sure!

Loved the issue. Loved it!

For one, Tom King wrote Batman like Batman ... finally. It was also written much like a Geoff Johns event opening. It just had that "feel" and visual texture (what? visual texture? Jeez Perry  ::) ...  ;D) and I loved it.

Getting ready to start the Flash issue and while I don't expect the same amount of glee I received from the Bats issue, if it is just a little better written than usual and the lightning is toned down just a tad I will be happy.

Flash 21 Part two

Didn't really move the story along much except to get us to the cliff hanger.  So far we have the button, the psycho pirate mask, and references to Flashpoint.  The button is clearly a reference to the Watchmen and Psycho Pirate is always tied to CoIE.  Are we headed to yet another universe altering event that this is just a prelude too?

Not sure how I would feel about another DC reboot but they could damn sure do it with this. They way they are leading to the "he stole time away from us" thing ... could they do a "return to DC" reboot or relaunch? I suppose they could, but should they?

In a way I have to say yes. Make those old DC stories part of the universe again. Return us to the universe, and more importantly, the stories that made these characters in the first place.

In a way I want to say no. Just move on past the ... ummm ... past. Let it all go and start again here. Make this the only universe that you need.

That said, and about the Flash issue - THOSE DAMN LINES!!!! Just look at the panels leading up to the uncovering of the treadmill and after. Too many damn lines. Just let Flash be clean again!!!! As for the issue as a whole ... eh ... it's meh. I am just not overly thrilled with Willamson's hero stuff. I like his creator stuff so much more. This isn't crap, it just was nowhere near as powerful as the last issue of this mini-event. And I see where he, Williamson, was the one that dialogged Batman issue 22. I'm hopeful but not yet ecstatic about the possibility.

Still enjoying this, but I think someone is right ... This is gonna be nothing but more questions left unanswered than mysteries solved. There will be no solution here. But that is okay. Monthly comics and all

Batman 22 - Part three

Interesting jump into
Flashpoint

However I do have a problem with
Thomas staying behind.  Just doesn't make sense.  If he can't save where he's at why go ahead and die?  Seems to me he'd want to spend time with his son and meet his grandson.  That interaction between Thomas and Damien is a missed opportunity.

(Didn't read this until I posted in the weekly. Funny.)

Lol.  I read the other post first and laughed because I just knew you hadn't read this yet.  Since we both thought it they clearly blew that.

I believe now, with the Rogues Reloaded story over, and The Button essentially hitting it's conclusion, that I am dropping the Flash.

It doesn't excite me, doesn't bore me, it's not even 'meh'-I just find it uninteresting in that when the story reaches it's rising action climax and plot resolution, I feel more of "that's...that's it? That's what you decided to write towards?" and I just find it wholly unsastifying.

Don't blame ya at all.  :( I am back only for the Button story and then off again.

Good news is I hear tons of peeps complaining about the needless barrage of lines and lightning around Barry (even when he isn't freakin' moving) so I hope that presents a change for those that stick around.

I will try the next writer or come back when this goes monthly, but just not enough here for a twice monthly book for me.

Flash 22 - part 4 - conclusion.

Thumbs up even though it was only a prelude to November's big event.

Things I liked:
1.  Seeing Jay Garrick - the real Jay Garrick.  I just hope he's not really dead and we get the old Justice Society back.
2.  The big blue hand.  Got my blood pumping for the Doomsday Clock story.
3.  The epilogue with Superman's logo morphing from the button.  Makes sense that he's the key.

What I didn't like:
That they spoiled the Jay reveal on the cover.  I hate it when they do that.

All in all a nice little mini and would love to see more mini crossovers like this as opposed to always having a big event.

Looking forward to November.

I thought as a whole, with 4 issues, done over 1 month (double shipping!) that as a whole, this was a bit pedestrian. This kind of big 'whoa!' moment could have been done in 1 issue Batman and 1 of Flash, and just set up the big event later this year.

I felt really underwhelmed. I mean, we got our reveal, but for how much was spent, and how little was talked really about the Button (hell, I don't even really recall if anything was learned or revealed!) it just seemed....'meh' to me.

"Meh"? Sure, but it a good way, kinda.
It is nice to get these 4 issue crossovers from time to time, and when it can be done in only a month? Oh yeah!

I do understand what you are saying however, there was nothing really done here ... but well ... kinda, yeah? We now have pretty much a confirmation on who this controller is behind the scene (we all knew anyway, but ...  :D) and we did have a major death. As much as major deaths are major, of course.
 ;D

I enjoyed it, but I can certainly see why some left the table feeling still hungry.  :)

To that, I'm utterly agreed. I do like me some book crossovers, particularly when it means big changes to both characters. To that, I would even agree that this did make that mark.

Same here.  Really enjoyed it as a 4 book crossover and didn't mind that it wasn't a  "DC Universe will never be the same!" like event.
