Title: CHAMPIONS
Post by: Perry on October 07, 2016, 02:08:54 PM
Okay now, THIS is what I'm talking about !!

Where has this Mark Waid been? A great start to this series. The kids are set to show the old guard how it is done!! (I can't believe I am pro "Millennial"  :D ...  although I guess this are just kids (other than Hulk) so they would be a younger generation than that ... and that makes me feel better.
 ;D :D

This is the book, the team book, to have folks. Unlike the past Champions book, which was great because of it's "What the hell? How do these guys get together and make a team" aspect, this iteration makes a lot of sense. At least in the eyes of youth.

Miles Morales (the current bestest Spidey  :)) and Sam Alexander (the current not as good Nova  :D) have real chemistry but when you add Kamala Khan (the newest Ms. Marvel whose comic I don't really like) that chemistry becomes downright historical (yeah, I couldn't quickly think of a good progression from Chemistry)
 :D
They could literally make a trio team of just these characters and it would be good. A solid team. Yet when you add in Hulk, the team gains a powerhouse. Add in Viv, and the team has its tech guy gal, and those two round out the team real nicely. (No Cyclops in this issue, but is set for next)

The art by Humberto Ramos is ... well ... tamed down a tad, but still very "expressive", just not in a distracting way. I can see what every panel is meant to tell. That has sometimes been my problem with Ramos (not as rough to see as some Bachelo panels, by any means), but sometimes I just couldn't get into some of his stuff. But not here. It's some of Ramos cleanest work, really, though it still has that cartoonish style that adds even more humor to the humorous parts (Love when the entire team takes a peak at their phones ... and what Viv uses). Just some nice stuff for this title.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I am really looking forward to reading the next, and THAT is how you get readers, Marvel!!

I love that trio in ANAD Avengers.  I'm looking forward now to this hitting the MU!

Issue #2

Gonna get right to it; this is the best single issue I have read in months. No action scenes (not really), no huge trauma or emergency to take action on, just a group of people trying to learn about each other.

And yeah, look, I love when they take a cover and show you a little piece of the action that could be possibly found inside and this cover hits it. Now I look at that cover and think "Oh joy, more hero in-fighting. And what could Cyclops have done?" Well, you will just have to read and find out!!! (But let me just say it is great and what Viv says later about the young Cyclops is what makes superheroes, and real life heroes so special!!!) Damn it was good!!

This book is so well written. I mean SO WELL WRITTEN!!!! Yes, I am that excited about this title. I hate to push a jinx on something, but with this group of youngsters ... I can honestly say I have not had this much excitement, this much hope and love for a new title since, yes, you got it, New Teen Titans. That is how much I am loving this title.

Art is perfection. I mean this puppy looks good. Man, I wish I had issue #3 in my hand already. Easily the best Marvel title in their line-up.

Well, okay, sure, I like Dr. Strange, Thor, Moon Knight, Ultimates, and the new Infamous Iron Man (starring Dr. Doom), so maybe saying this is my favorite is going too far, but no, NO!!! This is my favorite title as of now. Favorite of them all.

Each personality, fits into the puzzle of a perfect, young team. This is just amazing.

But truth must be told. I also read this at 3:30 this morning as I was up with my damn physical shit, sooooo yeah, there is that :D But no, without hesitation ...

10 outta 10 - Toasted Marshmallows!!!!!

Just finished Issue 1.

I like this.  I like this a lot.  The interactions between SpideyMiles, Nova, and Ms Marvel are just as much fun as when they were in the Avengers but I like that they are on their own now.  Adding Amadeus Cho Hulk is a nice touch and I am sooooooooooo psyched with Viv Vision being in this!

Great start!

Issue #2

I was literally just typing what is written below when I saw you posted your quote about me. Had to edit and insert your quote as it fit right in.
 :D

Next issue is really smart and I really liked it (it is what is making me start to really like Cyclops again), but I think, just to warn you, that around issue #3 or #4 it kinda goes into a strange territory where they get a little preachy and over blown heroic. To me at least. It is all good as they settle back in shortly after, but yeah, after two great issues they hit a sopt where I almost dropped them, but thanks to how good it started and my rule of 3, I gave them another shot and they come back strong.

Well I you were right about issue 2, Perry.  What a fun book!  Almost reminds me of the 80's X-Men.  Lighthearted super heroing is something I've been missing!
