Title: Comixology Sales
Post by: Perry on August 13, 2016, 03:08:54 PM
8/13/2016

The Woods -
Well I see that Comixology Unlimited has the first four issues of James Tynion's THE WOODS, so if anyone read those and liked it, the rest of the series (up to the current #22) is on sale for 99¢ each.

Outcast -
Also on Unlimited are the first 6 issues of Kirkman's OUTCAST, so if you liked that the rest of the series (up to 18 ... 19 just hit a few weeks ago) is up there for the usual 99¢
I have watched the first 3 episodes of the show and have always wondered if the comic reads/feels the same. But I will hold off for now.

Other stuff -
They also have an IDW Crossover special. The only things I would kinda be interested in are the Star Trek crossovers (Legion, Green Lantern and Planet of the Apes) but they have some more if any of you guys and gals are in for it.
 ;D

Love me some Galactus, but never read these first four comics "The Hunger" found on Comixology HERE (https://www.comixology.com/Hunger-Sale/page/11936?ref=c2l0ZS9pbmRleC9kZXNrdG9wL2xhcmdlQ2Fyb3VzZWw)
Was this any good? Is it on MU?

They also have that Jeff Lemire DC work still on sale HERE (https://www.comixology.com/Jeff-Lemire-Sale/page/11834?ref=c2l0ZS9pbmRleC9kZXNrdG9wL3NtYWxsQ2Fyb3VzZWw) and I am thinking hard about those Animal Man and Frankenstien issues (and hey, they have some Superboy issues also!!  :D)

And if I didn't have these (https://www.comixology.com/Morning-Glories-Sale/page/11932?ref=c2l0ZS9pbmRleC9kZXNrdG9wL3NtYWxsQ2Fyb3VzZWw) in HC form, I would be all over this. I know Jeff and Jimmy also enjoy this book so I can only advise you to give them a try.
(Man, I really need to find some time to catch up with this series, but I would have to start all the way at the beginning to remember what the heck is going on  :D)

(http://emoticoner.com/files/emoticons/smileys/drool-smiley.gif) Oh man. How am I gonna resist THIS (https://www.comixology.com/Fantastic-Four-Sale/page/11952?ref=c2l0ZS9pbmRleC9kZXNrdG9wL2xhcmdlQ2Fyb3VzZWw&list12585_pg=1)?
I tell ya what, if they do this again for the next 125 issues, there is no way, no way I could resist. But while this stuff is so important to the comics world, while stealing borrowing from DC's Challengers of the Unknown  ;), I am still not a fan of Stan Lee's writing. Not just because of the older style, but ... I don't know. Stan's Spidey is ... better, but just never really liked his FF.
*dodges tomatoes*
Not sure how I can let go of this, but ... Man, this is a tough one!!!! That early Kirby Marvel work and my favorite team!?!?! Aaarrrrhhhh

Still, if I get this and then they put up the next 125 issues at 99¢ ... I will not be able to get them ... not while still keeping my marriage intact.
 :D :D
 Crap/ This is tough.
But still, regardless ... better start putting my money away for the next big sale. FF or not!!!
 :)

I haven't looked yet but if all of those are on MU then it would be cheaper to join that.   8)

Too true.

I just hate that feeling of just borrowing, even though that is how I get 99% of my reading now  :D :D

But your point is valid. You talked me off the ledge.

Bye-Bye money
 :D

Plus, I think the first series of THIS (https://www.comixology.com/Moon-Knight-Sale/page/12229?ref=c2l0ZS9pbmRleC9kZXNrdG9wL2xhcmdlQ2Fyb3VzZWw) has two out of my top ten comic covers ever with its issues #8 and #15.

Two covers that I can stare at for hours.

Lots of specials this week-End

DC BOGO sale on Rebirth #1 issues and one-shots. Have something you missed or want to try? this is a great way to do it.

CLICK ME (https://www.comixology.com/DC-Buy-One-Get-One-Sale/page/13251?ref=c2l0ZS9pbmRleC9kZXNrdG9wL2xhcmdlQ2Fyb3VzZWw) before Monday night
 :)
EDIT - And don't forget, that buy one get one only counts towards the #1 Rebirth issues. Please read the code coupon carefully!!

Image sale. Lots of trades for $4. Want to try Brian K Vaughn's Papergirls? Or Manifest Destiny?  Rucka's Black Magik or Lazarus? Well HERE (https://www.comixology.com/Image-Black-Friday-Sale/page/13160?ref=c2l0ZS9pbmRleC9kZXNrdG9wL3NtYWxsQ2Fyb3VzZWw) is your chance (also ends the 28th)

This one, with the Mignola Universe stuff, is gonna hurt me I think. Click HERE (https://www.comixology.com/Dark-Horse-Black-Friday-Cyber-Monday-Sale/page/13254?ref=c2l0ZS9pbmRleC9kZXNrdG9wL3NtYWxsQ2Fyb3VzZWw) and feel my pain  ;D

And if that one doesn't force my wife to make a change at the husband position  :D I think THIS (https://www.comixology.com/Alien-Legion-Sale/page/13249?ref=c2l0ZS9pbmRleC9kZXNrdG9wL3NtYWxsQ2Fyb3VzZWw) may very well do it. A fantastic memory of my younger days. I lived in my car then too, so I am prepared for the backlash.

Damn you Perry!

 :D I hear ya, buddy.

You did grab some great stuff for that price you paid. I'm glad the sale wasn't JUST for the Rebirth stuff, like that code stated. That is cool!!!

I just wish you would have gotten New Superman #2 as well as that is when the title starts to reveal itself. The "star", the "Superman", is basically just shown as a jerk in issue #1, only to set-up the change he has to go through. It is such a good title, kinda like the old JLI stuff, in a way, with the humor I mean, but I understand you not jumping in with both feet at first
 :)

Unfollow is a title that is wowing lots of peeps, along with Clean Room, which I hear is also very good. I have the issues waiting for me, but just don't have the time to get to them yet ... but ... if you say Unfollow is good ...
Well, let me know what you think and I will go from there.
 :D

The way I read the offer you couldn't get anything from Rebirth beyond the first issues or I would have grabbed them all plus Action Comics.  They are both in my Wish List so I do plan to get to them.

They will be in my reading list for next week so I'll be letting you know sooner rather than later.   ;D

Title: Re: Comixology Sales

So there is a sale on some Justice League books ... Justice League Elite, a 12 issue maxi is one of them. Worth the time? Is it worth $12 (to be more precise)?
Issue One (https://www.comixology.com/Justice-League-Elite-1-of-12/digital-comic/26132?ref=cGFnZS92aWV3L2Rlc2t0b3AvZ3JpZExpc3QvbGlzdDE3Nzc1)

Anyone?
 :)

EDIT -
Nevermind the edit. I was linking to Lady Killer, but I thought it was the first four issue series. They have the second series for sale but only the first four issues. Which is worth it, if you are going to buy the entire first 4 issue series (which you should) and going to buy the second 5 issue series, but the last issue, the 5th issue, is not out yet sooooo
 :D

Title: Re: Comixology Sales

I seem to remember dropping Elite before it was done but but that might have been due to number of titles I was buying and not necessarily the quality of the book. I can't say for sure.

I'm not sure if your on their email list or not but you should be.  I got a special $20 off coupon from them yesterday with a $30 minimum purchase.  So I picked up $45 worth of DC for $25. That's a win folks.

CRAP!! I gotta go check my spam folder!!!

What did you get? Any complete mini's or just some issues here and there?

And thanks for the "Elite" info. That tells me something for sure. I suppose if it wasn't worth keeping on a cut down list it was THAT impressive. Maybe good, but not THAT good  ;D Hopefully Jimmy will be able to tell me if it is worth $12.

Red Hood and the Outlaws

One of the biggest surprises for me. Really enjoyed this comic until they shifted artists. Unreadable for me now
 :-[

Seven to Eternity vol 1

I have still only read the first issue  :o but I am trying to collect a butt ton of these before I go on. Well, at least until it reaches issue 10 or so. It is still one of the most exciting universes in comics for me. The rule of honor, the transportation method, all of it, just wows me. It's like Dune for me, in so far as the wonderment. Can't wait to read issue #2

So Comixology is having an Andy Kuburt Sale (the better of the Kubert brothers in my opinion  :) ... even though Andy's style looks more like his dads) and I seen a title I have not thought about for years HERE (https://www.comixology.com/DCs-Finest-The-Art-and-Comics-of-Andy-Kubert/page/15546?ref=c2l0ZS9pbmRleC9kZXNrdG9wL3NtYWxsQ2Fyb3VzZWw) - Arion: Lord of Atlantis

Two things

1 - I have to admit Comixology confused the hell out of me at first. Each issue of this series kept saying Jan Dureseman did the art and I was getting all confused as to why this title was in the Andy Kubert sale section. I mean why is it here when he didn't draw it? But it seems yes, indeed, he was a part of this title ... he was the letterer for those issues.
 :D

2 - Does anyone have knowledge or memories of this series? I remember it coming out and I kinda remember reading a couple issues here and there back in the day, but I don't know if it is a good one or not? Is it worth the $1 to get issues 11-30 or even for a few issues?

Thanks guys!!
 :)

Couple more sales that end very soon that you may (or may not ... for you MU guys ;D) be interested in, folks.

One, that I will be adding I am sure ... once I make sure the wife allows me to as I have spent way to much this month it being my birthday "month" and all ;D ... is the 22 issues of THIS (https://www.comixology.com/Spider-Man-Greatest-Battles-Team-Ups-Sale/page/15761?ref=c2l0ZS9pbmRleC9kZXNrdG9wL2xhcmdlQ2Fyb3VzZWw) (Well, the Marvel Team-Up issues I mean)

Also want to buy the Mage stuff HERE (https://www.comixology.com/Mage-Sale/page/15756?ref=c2l0ZS9pbmRleC9kZXNrdG9wL3NtYWxsQ2Fyb3VzZWw) as I didn't get into this when it first came out (90's ... *shiver*) but am interested in the idea of Excalibur being in a baseball bat  :D plus I have plans on checking out more than just the "zero" issue of this upcoming and last volume of the title, so I would think I would enjoy a little back story. Maybe I will, but ... yeah ... I doubt it, not right now.
 :'(

EDIT - Wow, okay, forget the Mage stuff now. I didn't see all those older Amazing Spidey books they have for sale at first glance. Not only the Death of Gwen related 3 issues, but 20 or so issues before that as well!!!!!!

Title: Re: Comixology Sales
Post by: Jimmy T on July 28, 2017, 03:45:58 PM
Yeah but what I remember from Reading those 20 issues before the death, is that most of those issues are kind of really trash and garbage. Gwen cries Peters upset lame villains are being introduced, things are just kind of cycling and spiraling around the same events of just Gwen crying and I can't handle Spider-Man nonsense.

Title: Re: Comixology Sales
Post by: Perry on July 28, 2017, 08:33:18 PM
Really?
Now I am not the biggest Stan Lee dialog fan, and yes, Gerry Conway's Smasher must be considered for top non-worthy rogue  :D, but having Sr on the art is always worth 99¢ for me. Plus I tend to enjoy Roy Thomas stuff, when I am feeling nostalgic, especially with Gil Kane art

Yep, those are fine memories for me

Title: Re: Comixology Sales
Post by: Jimmy T on July 29, 2017, 12:18:05 AM
For me, it was the start of "Stan's about run out of his Spidey Shtick".

You also had the Gibbon appear.

But seriously, Peter and Gwen together was awful. Her dying was the best thing ever for the character.

But for me, I read these issues as the Black and White Essentials volumes. Art? Just awesome, just awesome. But Gerry Conway just wasn't Stan in his prime.

But man, memories? Memories are the sweetest thing about comics as a kid.

Title: Re: Comixology Sales
Post by: Perry on July 29, 2017, 01:01:30 AM
Oh I hear ya. I just can't read a ton of Stan's older (newer) stuff and his earlier (older) stuff I have to be in the right frame of mind ... what that frame is exactly I have no idea
 ;D

But I also agree on Conway (and Gwen). Conway was a good idea man for Marvel, in his short FF run especially, but hit and miss ration for writing is well established, for me at least.

Exiles?

Comixology having a huge Exiles sale and I am wondering if I should buy the run? All of it? Half of it? Just the first 20 issues? I have read some issues of this, but never a large run or even an arc. In-fact I think the first arc of this was suppose to be our first "HR Reads" that we never really got going ... surprisingly
 :D :D :D

Any help here? I figure if I am going to piss off the wife, I may as well do it in the most minimal way I can
 :D

EDIT - of course NOW I see the Strangers in Paradise sale as well and I may have to get some of those as well
(so hopefully the Exiles run isn't deserving of total buy through?)

Now while most of us will pick up a couple (or a lot possibly  :o) of DC trades at around 60-88% off found HERE (https://www.comixology.com/DC-March-to-Black-Friday-Sale/page/16872?ref=c2l0ZS9pbmRleC9kZXNrdG9wL2xhcmdlQ2Fyb3VzZWw&list20706_pg=5&cu=0), I offer another alternative as well.
A lil' book by Delcourt called Deepwater Prison found HERE (https://www.comixology.com/Delcourt-Black-Friday-Sale/page/16896?ref=c2l0ZS9pbmRleC9kZXNrdG9wL3NtYWxsQ2Fyb3VzZWw) (just scroll down to the third set). Now I have not read this particular series yet ... yet  :) ... but it is by a guy named Christophe Bec and I have enjoyed a couple different series from him (Olympus Mons and Promethee ... or Prometheus depending on where you get it) so I am jumping in on this as well. But please note that those are single issues though, so you are not getting a big trade for that price, but most of the Delcourt books are at least 40 pages so ...

Anyway, happy buying!!!

I’m actually kind of mad at them on this sale.  So I pre-ordered Wonder Woman Vol 3 for $12.99. They don’t charge you until it’s released and it was released today and was immediately part of this sale at the great price of $4.99.  They charged me $12.99.  😡

Feels like I ripped off.

Email them. They should honor the lower price just as any brick and mortar store. Or at least the better!!!!

You bet.  :)

I got those Secret Weapons issues. I read it at the shop, but wanted to have it. I really enjoyed that 4 issue mini and with the next one hitting soon, wanted to read the first one again.

Hope there isn't another huge 99¢ sale until May

Of course I think Jimmy should jump on THIS (https://www.comixology.com/Black-Hammer-Vol-1-Secret-Origins/digital-comic/504790?ref=cGFnZS92aWV3L2Rlc2t0b3AvZ3JpZExpc3QvbGlzdDIzMzA0) one and THIS (https://www.comixology.com/Black-Hammer-Vol-2-The-Event/digital-comic/627425?ref=cGFnZS92aWV3L2Rlc2t0b3AvZ3JpZExpc3QvbGlzdDIzMzA0) one if he hasn't tried it already  :)

LOL - I was just coming to post about that sale too.   :D

No way I can buy them all but since I've never read a single issue now is a great time to start. Going to go ahead and get the first series and maybe second one too.

Okay, some more sales are up at good 'ole Comixology but here is one that may have appeal to some here.

The 6th Gun is one of the titles that is going for a great price, so if you ever wanted to try this ghost/western story written by Cullen Bunn (one of his first three comics behind The Damned and the Great Immortal Weapons) HERE (https://www.comixology.com/Oni-Spotlight-featuring-Sixth-Gun-Sale/page/18142?ref=c2l0ZS9pbmRleC9kZXNrdG9wL3NtYWxsQ2Fyb3VzZWw) is your chance. The first seven trades are only $4 a peace, so you could get the first 41 issues for only $28 if you so choose. Only $1.47 per issue.
(Or, if you have unlimited, you could read the first six issues and try it first to decide if you want to continue  ;D)

I read the first 11 or 13 issues or so, and I do need to get back to this myself, but it was pretty fun. A story about 6 guns that have 6 different power sets for its owners is kinda cool. Especially set in the Western motif ... even though I just used "motif" poorly, don't let that hinder your decision to check out that book.
 :D

I think I stopped after the first two arcs as well.  Hmmm.  Good chance to catch back up me thinks.

Edit:  Unlimited has the first 4 trades for free.  That’s the first 23 issues.  So no excuse for not trying it out if you have that!

Why haven't I tried this book?

Oh yeah. Current funds. Have I mentioned that during my wife's maternity leave we've only had paychecks for 3 weeks of the 12?

Well sure if you start talking about money, then ... yeah ... that may be a reason.

Ouch, 3 outta 12 will certainly bite the wallet.

Good news is you got two kids out of the deal now, so ... even when you do start getting those checks on a regular basis again, you will be feeling broke for a looooong time to come
 ;)

Maybe once I'm not 4 years behind on Valiant!!

A couple of GREAT Comixology sales this week.

First off we have one run that everyone should own or at the very least read ... but really own  ;D
Priest's Black Panther run - HERE (https://www.comixology.com/Black-Panther-Blockbuster-Sale/page/18159?ref=c2l0ZS9pbmRleC9kZXNrdG9wL3NtYWxsQ2Fyb3VzZWw)

and even bigger, yes, even to me, a semi-fantastic Action Comics sale HERE (https://www.comixology.com/Superman-80th-Anniversary-Sale/page/18176?ref=c2l0ZS9pbmRleC9kZXNrdG9wL3NtYWxsQ2Fyb3VzZWw&list23383_pg=7&cu=0)
I only say semi-fantastic because I was hoping I could get some more of the early Legion issues on sale again (I didn't have enough funds that last time). But hey, I am still going to get some of the 80's Supes stuff.
 :)

Well there goes having any money leftover for this weekend. All these sales are killing me.  :D

Rick Remender sent out a tweet that thanks to his DEADLY CLASS "going to series at Syfy" (Another show I have to at least try), that same series is on sale at Comixology.

As I have always wanted to dive in, this seems like the best chance to at least prepare for doing so. Going to go HERE (https://www.comixology.com/comics-sale?list_id=23655&lang=1) and throw down another $25 bucks.

Hopefully this is the last one for this week  ;D

I tried that series way back in the day and couldn't get into it.  Maybe it will be different for you (hopefully).

Oh, well that stinks. Though I know what you mean. I felt the same way about LOW. Sometimes the writers that you enjoy just hit on something that doesn't hit for you.  :)
I will give the first few issues a try and see how it goes. I heard it isn't the best early on, which doesn't bode well for me, but I remember the guys at iFanboy (I think it was) talking about even though they didn't love it at first, they got hooked and it became a very good series before they knew what was going on.  :D I am not will to commit too much to a series I don't care for, so it will have to grab me pretty quickly. Thanks for the info though. You may save me some money
 :)

Guys, try the IMAGE18 coupon code if you need to stock up on any single issues or trades.  I just got caught up on 10 issues of the Walking Dead and 16 of Saga for about $20.  Not sure if it still works, I bought them the beginning of last week, but try it out!  Trades for a couple bucks in some cases.  Good stuff.  You try.  Try.

EDIT:  I just looked, it's good until 4/30.  BUY BUY BUY!  ;)

Ummm, first off, did I see Rich make te post above?
I damn sure don'
t remember it
 ;D

A little late now ... okay, late as #&*$, but ...
How ya doing, Rich?

Anyway, thinking about picking up a 99¢'er, four issue trade of Justin Jordan's Breaklands: Season One (free for Comixology Unlimited folks) but was wondering if Jeff knew anything about it first.

Of course then, after seeing that and before coming here to ask Jeff I make the mistake of seeing what else they have and dang it, wouldn't ya know it, all the FF (and Avengers) comics that I love from the say ... 20¢ to 50¢ original price range are up for sale. I am going to jump on some FF (I think) even though I will be getting MU soon, I can't let a price like that slip by. Not when I have holes in my digital stuff I need filling.

Man, the wife is going to have to find out about this one, though I may be able to ... no ... yeah, I'm gonna get in trouble again. Hope to see you guys in about 3 months when I recover from this ass beating I am about to take
 :D
Maybe Jeff will be started with The Blade Itself by then?
ZING!!!
 ;D ;D ;)

Man, between you and Jeff tonight...
 :D

I know it was from two years ago. That was my point and why I said (or from the look of what I actually typed, I tried to say)
"I don't remember it". I even put a big smiley afterwards and then said "A little late now ...okay, late as #*$*" (meaning, yeah, 2 years is more than a little late, it's late as #$@#)
 :)

First Jeff didn't notice I was talking about a 20 year old series, when I ask "If you remember it" and now you? Man, I tell ya, what have you guys been drinkin?
 :D ;D ;D ;D
 ;D

EDIT - and to top it off, Jeff came here, laughed at me, again, for some reason, and still didn't answer my question on if he tried the book in my post.  :-\ :D
Yep, I think you either need to post more, read more, listen to that book or anything. Just don't take more time off.
 :D :D :D

EDIT 2 -

I'm not sure if your on their email list or not but you should be.  I got a special $20 off coupon from them yesterday with a $30 minimum purchase.  So I picked up $45 worth of DC for $25. That's a win folks.

MAN JEFF!!! Nice get on that $20 off coupon yesterday!!!
 :P :P

 :D :D :D ;D ;D ;D :D :D :D
