Title: Top Ten AN-AD Marvel
Post by: Perry on February 25, 2016, 08:14:44 PM
Okay folks, you asked for it (no, not really) and now you're getting it.

I have read virtually every title that has come out from Marvel since this past Secret Wars and I am now ready to bring forth my ten bestest of the best of them. The ten titles that really are the brightest titles this new relaunch can bring. Now we still have six or so titles yet to come and I am excited about them all (from the new Punisher to Black Widow to Black Panther to Nighthawk to Hyperion to Thunderbolts to the second Iron Man title ... oh ... to the new Moon Knight title), but for now, here is what I consider the top ten.

Opinions may vary, but they shouldn't  :D :D ;)

The top ten current Marvel titles (with at least 2 issues published and non-Star Wars related), according to ... me  ;D in alphabetical order to try and hide my top three  ;)-

Astonishing Ant-Man - Just a funny, well written title (think Superior Foes)
Daredevil - Someone said this is the modern Frank Miller run. I can see it. See it? Sorry Matt  ;D
Invincible Iron Man - Always an enjoyable read. Month after month. Great "guest stars"
Mighty Thor - Perhaps the most well liked Marvel title ever?
Old Man Logan - Logan, mean and violent. They way he should be.
Ultimates - Dealing with Galactus all the way to Eternity. This team is handling the BIG stuff!!!!
Uncanny Inhumans - While both are good, this is the best of the two Inhumans titles. The Quiet Room is back  :)
Uncanny X-Men - Land's art just can't bring this title down
Vision - Super original title that leaves my jaw open every month with every last page.
Weirdworld - Another super original title that mixes d list Marvel with humor and action! Started slow but ... wow.

So there they are. The ten titles you need to check out from the new(est) Marvel. You will enjoy most of these, it is just ordained.
 :D

Note however, Power Man and Iron Fist, if the second issue was as good as the first, will break into the top ten next month, dropping one of the above out!
 :o

I will reply later, but it will be a reply with a 'thanks' in it, since I have no finger on a pulse from Marvel anymore.

Right?  :)
Pretty much the same as before.

Avengers have way too many titles, none of them close to being as good as they should be if they just made the Avengers be the Avengers again ... a SELECT group of the best Marvel has to over instead of having every Tom, Deadpool and Harry be allowed to call themselves an Avenger.
Great stuff on the perimeter or fringe that sadly no-one is buying enough of yet instead will buy Amazing Spider-Man because they have done so for 300 years and fearing to move away from that title and try the better, less known titles, even temporarily, would spell certain doom for the very fiber of our universe.
X-Men have less titles, finally, but nothing happening in any of them that carries any weight in their 5 titles that anyone would miss. Although there is another Apocalypse war thing happening ... again, so ... yay?
Original titles that should be alive for a couple years to tell their unique, if not just a different style story will be canceled before seeing double digits or right after reaching them. (Hercules, Moon Girl, Angela and Illuminati to name just a couple ... not that I liked them all, but still)

Yeah, about the same  ;D

I would agree with your second post as I allude to your first post:

Where are the mainstay titles from Marvel? It's all other things on there! Although, I did have to reread to see, well, you do have bigger tentpole characters like Thor, Iron Man, Daredevil there with an X-men book and a Wolverine book, so there's that.

But no real highly regarded Avengers praise, no Spider-man books (and no blame here for that!).

I really came to believe that one must watch what Nick Spencer does, and Ant-Man is no exception!!

It does seem like a cool mix of things. But I've got, what 4 more months until I can read them? Nertz!! I'm wondering if it's truly explained how Tony isn't a spoiled dick anymore from Axis (or is that white washed away?) And I understand that the original 5 X-men are still running around? ....why? Is Sabretooth still reversed?

I guess, what I want to know post SW is this; is there any holdover from what occurred before that event?

It wasn't washed away as much as cooled  :D All the inversion did to Tony was really make him more Tony.  :D :D I never read that White Iron Man title, but Secret Wars would have been a good time to rid the world of that story
 :D

And I understand that the original 5 X-men are still running around? ....why?

So Marvel can have them, the true original team, in this universe without all the history. Mainly it is a way to get both Scott Summers returned to being the Scott Summers everyone loved put up with like before and Jean back without the "she is evil" history.

Also why we now have an Old Logan instead of a Younger Wolverine.

Is Sabretooth still reversed?

Yes. He is not as "goody two shoes" heroic as he was, but yes he is still on the good side ... more than not at least. He states in Uncanny how he is not the same person as he use to be (and let's a guy live that was trying to kill him. Ha). He respects life now I guess. (Uncanny is the best X-Book out now, even with Greg Land's art ... I'm tellin ya  :))

I guess, what I want to know post SW is this; is there any holdover from what occurred before that event?

Yes, there are some. But you also have to remember that Secret Wars is like Crisis. A way to revamp the universe and reset continuity. Rid themselves of the stories they wanted to sweep under the rug. So I am sure a lot of things are gone from that event.

I understand the need for DC and Marvel to reset their universes. It really is the best way to amend any stories that just don't fix what you want to say any longer. It's certainly better than "A deal with Mephisto"
 :( :( :( :( :( :( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
(Why couldn't they have just waited on a Secret War event to make that change? I would not have liked it any more than I do still to this day, but I could at least make sense of it. More so than having Peter make a deal with a devil ... NEVER!!!!

The only thing I really miss about that AvX thing is I want to know about Red Skull ... or White Skull as it were. I really wanted that story to go someplace and now I have a feeling it will be lost to us.
