Title: Warner Bros shelve Wonder Woman - or not!

Warner Bros. Television has postponed its planned revival of Wonder Woman after the David E. Kelley project failed to find a home at a network this week, Deadline reports. Sources say it was a matter of “unfortunate timing.”

Announced in October, the modern-day reboot would return the DC Comics character to live-action TV for the first time since 1979, when she was famously portrayed by Lynda Carter. The involvement of Kelley, who created such series as Ally McBeal, The Practice and Picket Fences, seemed to buoy hopes for Wonder Woman, whose proposed movie adaptation has toiled in development hell for a decade.

Last month, however, the Emmy-winning writer and producer revealed he hadn’t “necessarily committed” to the superhero project, and was still “trying to figure out if I can make the franchise work for me.”

But Deadline reports the Emmy Award-winning writer and producer completed a pilot script that was shopped to the networks on Wednesday. Fox and Disney-owned ABC, which is developing series based on Marvel’s Incredible Hulk, Cloak & Dagger and Jessica Jones, passed on the project, while WBTV sibling The CW, home to Smallville and possibly DC’s Raven, couldn’t afford it. Executives at CBS, which picked up the original Wonder Woman after ABC decided not to renew it for a second season, were reportedly split, leaving NBC, which is in a transition stage as it awaits its new president of programming Bob Greenblatt.

The script may make the rounds again, somewhere down the road, but this setback means fans definitely won’t see a live-action Wonder Woman next fall, and probably for some time beyond that.

Yeah, that sucks.

Don't get me wrong, I think this show would've been a tremendous flop but hey, any team that has the balls to take a DC owned property and try to sell it to ABC (A Disney owned company ... the same Disney that owns Marvel) I have to give a little props to.

Weird.

I figured with Smallville leaving CW would do something similar with Wonder Woman.

The story of her growing up an Amazon and becoming a hero, type thing.

Maybe "too Xena," I don't know. (quickie confession: never saw a full episode of Xena)

Good to see Cloak & Dagger.  Always thought it'd make for a better tv show than movie.

Jessica Jones seems like it'd work.

Hulk?  I'm a big Hulk fan, but what is that budget going to be like?  Maybe if they do the British method and do just 13 episodes a season.  Or just do less episodes a season, period, like cable shows do.  Then...maybe.

Looks like it's back on and NBC is giving it a try.

Adrianne Palicki is WONDER WOMAN in the new David E. Kelley TV series (http://bigfanboy.com/wp/?p=6318)

Adrianne Palicki (“Friday Night Lights,” “Red Dawn”) will star in the title role of “Wonder Woman,” a new series pilot from David E. Kelley (“Boston Legal,” “Ally McBeal,” NBC’s “Harry’s Law”).

The series pilot is a reinvention of the iconic DC Comics title in which Wonder Woman – a/k/a Diana Prince – is a vigilante crime fighter in Los Angeles but also a successful corporate executive and a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life. Kelley and Bill D’Elia (“Boston Legal,” “The Practice”) are the executive producers. The pilot was written by Kelley and will be directed by Jeffrey Reiner (NBC’s “The Event”). “Wonder Woman” is from David E Kelley Productions and Warner Bros. Television.

Palicki, who appeared as Tyra Collete in NBC’s acclaimed “Friday Night Lights,” will star in the upcoming feature-film remake of “Red Dawn.” She also starred in the horror film “Breaking the Girl” and in the recent series “Lone Star.”

This is going to be horrendous.

Brutally so. WW is NOT a TV hero.

But then again I think Smallville is/was also one of the worst representations of a comic based show and that lasted for many a moon, so hey ...

Ten seasons dude.  TEN!

That's quite an accomplishment for any show.

I think it was a great representation.  Sure it had some cheese moments but overall - great show. Too bad it's ending.

But now wonder woman is back?!  Should be great.  Let's see if they give it justice.

I knew you (and others) that watch that show, and enjoy it, would take umbrage with my last comment. I meant no disrespect to you or others, and am glad you guys have something you can enjoy that lasted as long as it did. Especially since it is ... considered ... comic related.
 8)

Having said that, one of the many things that makes the world great are our differences, and on this .... wow are we different.
 ;D

.... I shall now begin to possibly piss you (and others) off even more ...
 :D

It is also a great thing that while I can attack items/products I despise or find borderline inane, it doesn't in anyway transfer over to you personally. IE: If I were to say with complete honesty -
"This show is as bad as that damn Twilight crap."
That would not mean I think any less of anyone that enjoys both that insipid, adolescent love fest of a movie and this show that I find bland, lazy and filled with more cheese that a case of Combos. Yes even though I find Twilight to be, as far as movies go, a heaping pile of steaming dog crap and SMALLVILLE to be as undramatic and uninspired as any of the shows on the old WB or ABC FAMILY (with its eye gauging shows like LITTLE LIARS and SECRET LIFE), it doesn't mean I think of any of you guys in the same way.

I mean hey, if you are into teen dramas, you are into teen dramas.  :) I watch YOUNG JUSTICE on the cartoon network, so it is not like I have room to talk. (Although I think that YOUNG JUSTICE is better written, better {voice} acted and a better show ;D)

I may question your opinion on a few things, like ... SMALLVILLE for example  ;D, but as the saying goes, if we all liked the same thing ...

And besides if a bad show like that can last for 10 years, that means you are not alone with your bad taste.
 :D

 ;)

Oh and speaking of shows that lasted ... perhaps a little longer than they should have ... Look who is number one
(Not really my thoughts as I don't think SMALLVILLE should have lasted even one season  ;), but still funny)

ROFLMAO!

Dang!  Somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed!   :D

It would take a lot more than a debate over a TV show to "piss me off".  You kill me sometimes.   ;D

Yuck.....this is craptastic.

Not a good look at all.....The best comment I read about it was that it looked like a store bought costume at Party City!  ;D

Gag.  The new costume looks awful.  Those pants....

I've never been a WW reader/watcher, but this costume just sort of makes me want to cringe.

We heard it might be the case yesterday but now it’s official, Wonder Woman will not be a series on NBC.

NBC held more upfronts today and Entertainment Weekly has learned the network passed on David E. Kelley’s Wonder Woman pilot. A relief to some for sure but for a bummer for others who were looking forward to seeing a live-action Amazon Princess again. The pilot starred Adrianne Palicki as Diana, Elizabeth Hurley and Cary Elwes.

EW says there’s no official reason why the show was passed over but that “scuttlebutt reveals the pilot earned mixed reviews at test screenings. And then there was all the online blow back about the costume – which seemed to de-emphasize the patriotism and play up the comic’s Greek mythology. Ultimately, the wardrobe department went back to the drawing board but that didn’t seem to save the project.”

In lieu of the superhero adaptation, NBC has picked up The Playboy Club, Awake, Grimm, Whitney, Up All Night, Smash and Prime Suspect.

Are you upset or happy the show did not get picked up for a series? Would you still like to see Wonder Woman in live action? Perhaps a movie is in the cards after all.

I'm bummed. I'd like to see WW on the small screen again.

But surely not in the way it was being presented? With that situation? With that plot? Wonder Woman as a vigilante CEO, running across the tops of cars like John McClane?
