issue 80 is out...and what an issue it was.  Kirkman has a way of lulluing you into a false sense of security...even when you know it's going to go horribly wrong, it is almost impossible to predict how wrong it will go.  plus he constantly evolves the characters so you never know how they are going to react...you can guess but never get it quite right.

Man I love this book.

Another good issue.  I predict bad things in Carl's future!

Another good issue.  I predict bad things in Carl's future!

Things are getting a little complicated for Rick too!  ;D

And I hope that giving Carl a sidearm doesn't end up as a harsh lesson in keeping guns away from minors!

And what about the love triangle between Abraham, Rosita, and Holly!

So much good human drama...and zombies too!

Holy crap!  Issue 82!

The proverbial $h!t is hitting the fan!!!!

Add a couple more to the ranks of the dead/undead!!!!

I don't know where I'd rather be in this situation!  Outside the city walls with Andrea and Glenn, or on the inside with Rick!  I predict that Michonne is gonna make a last minute save with the slicing and dicing action and save Rick!  But Kirkman has a way of surprising the reader, so I'm sure I'm wrong!

Glenn had a point about leaving Pete's wife with Carl, and luckily my bad thoughts didn't come true, when Rick returned home to check on them.  I thought it was also pretty obvious that when Glenn and the others crossed the rope over to the other rooftop that they should go one by one.  Of course they had to learn the hard way!!!!  Much more dramatic and cooler I know!

Can anyone find a moment of respite for longer than a week or so?  Well that wouldn't make for a good story I suppose!

Hey G,

Getting the feeling your boy Glenn may not be long on this earth?

Hi Jeff,

That's just my boy Glenn having a massive panic attack!  ;D  He'll calm down and handle business once the "fight or flight" instinct kicks in! Kirkman wouldn't use obvious foreshadowing or drop a big hint on an upcoming death like that....it would be too easy!  TWD is all about surprising turns of events! 8)

Wonder how Duane is going to end up?  Michonne's blade is really something sharp! That conversation between Carl and him was pretty great.

I also liked that line that Rick said at the end. Like saying, "I got my own problems to worry about, without worrying about someone else!!!"

Looks to me like the whole community is going to be split up...permanently.

Come on...no one is commenting...I mean holy sh!t...can you believe what just happened...I know to always expect the unexpected but DAAAAAMMMN!!!

I was shocked...my mouth hung open for what seemed like 20min before my wife asked what happened, then rolled her eyes and continued to watch Lifetime.  Typically Lifetime would have caused my eyes to roll too but i was not aware of my surrounds, just staring at that horrific 2page spread.

I know we want to be kind and spoiler free for those who wait for trade but that really shouldn't stop those who have read the issue not to discuss...so come on...what do you think?

Yeah, I typically didn't want to be the first to comment, for fear of offending the trade-waiters  ;)

Oh man....what can we say that won't spoil all the goodness of this issue!

The Walking Dead #84
No Way Out Part Five

Now this is what I like to see!  Overcoming adversity!  Rallying together, fighting for survival!

Mother F'ing killing machines is what Rick, Michonne, and Abraham are!  Damn, even Eugene and Gabriel got off their lazy butts and put in work!  Andrea and Glenn were late to the party, and missed all the acton!

Hope certainly springs eternal!  I'm looking forward to more great stories!

the two double page spreads of them standing over piles of zombie bodies was amazing...just the shear volume and carnage they went through...I thought they were going to have to abandon the "town" but it looks like they might salvage whats left.  another great issue.

Rick et al taking names and kicking all sorts of zombie a$$.  Really liked seeing people overcoming thier basic fears and joining in to help clear out the walkers.  Loved the expression on the late comers, expecting to see the worst and thier surpise as they see what has happened inside.

The Walking Dead 86!

As expected, we get a quiet issue after all the craziness of the past few issues! The community is getting their stuff together and brainstorming some great ideas to keep their neighborhood safe. But who are we kidding? Something is going to go horribly wrong!

Abraham is busted for his cheating ways which was funny!

TWD #88

Here we go again!  Dissension in the ranks!

There's always gotta be some haters in the group!  Can't they recognize real leadership?  Or is it that trouble always follows Rick and his crew?

Poor Carl....His father is at his wits end, and needs to get out of town to clear his head.

Another fantastic issue.

another outstanding issue...loved the parralles of Rick conversation and the usurpers.  Now it's game time...next issue should be interesting :)  wondering what side the rest of the Community will take.  Hope they side with Rick and our gang isn't ousted...again.  I dont see an easy end to this conflict which makes it all the more fun.

New story arc is a couple of issues in...what do you think...is this guy full of sh!t or really there to offer assistance and entrance into a larger community.

I'm thinking it all bunk/set up...the current community had people out looking for others, it seems odd that these other communities might be close by but never discovered by the two who found Rick and crew (can’t think of their names)

Still loving this book and very excited for tonights return to TV.

Maybe Jesus isn't lying after all?  I FEAR what lies ahead with this guy.  He's dangerous.  Pretending to be tied up, kicking zombies.....I can't figure him out.

And what is up with Carl?  Actively defying his father?  I think Jesus might be swaying him to the dark side....

I got a #1 CGC'd at 9.8......thinking hard about putting it up on ebay.....

One sold on the 20th for $1,325. Surprisingly not as much an increase as usual CGC compared to Non- CGC'd. Still a nice return of investment.  ;D Even with the cost of getting it graded. (What is that cost anyway?)

Edit - Wow, for about the same price ... FANTASTIC FOUR #48 (my holy of holy's) only graded 9.2, but still.

In fact, time for an avatar change.  ;D

And that issue 19 of Dead is selling for stupid, crazy price also. 1st appearance of Michonne. She is like the new Galactus.
 :D

It's around $25 to get it graded for modern age books, and a little higher for silver and golden age books.   I got my copy graded way back at a Wizard World Los Angeles, when I saw that the Walking Dead was already gaining a huge cult following and it was going for around $200 ungraded.  I thought it would be a good idea to put some of the key issues I had under the slab to protect them from my grubby, oily fingers... ;D

The Walking Dead #96

Great issue, and kicks off the start of something brand new.  Could there be a charater on the horizon that is more cold and ruthless than the Governor?  This Negan fellow could be it!  Rick is willing to risk the lives of everyone so that they can have a chance at beginning life anew on "The Hilltop".  I love the speech where Rick is done with just "surviving" and it's time for "living".  But we all know that happy endings are few and far between in this book!

I thought that it was funny that Carl is now sitting in on the grown-up conversations.....he's been through a lot in the past year.....nothing scares him anymore.

One thing that did seem out of place was Rick giving Andrea a little peck on the cheek, but maybe the sight of the Hilltop has that effect...

I can't wait for SOMETHING TO FEAR!  Who wants to take bets on who's gonna die in this upcoming $#!+storm?!?

I'm so happy that they are trying to ship every 3 weeks until the monumental #100!!!!  Charlie Adlard must be a drawing machine!

Yeah...It sucked...would've liked that character to stick around, but I think the worse is yet to come!!!

Have you seen Charlie Adlard's wraparound cover to issue #100?  It might have a big spoiler on who might die next!!! If it rings true, then there is an even bigger character that is going to bite the big one!!!!!

Just finished #125 & 126.  Good ending to All Out War.

Not sure what I think of this outcome...

Negan not getting killed in the end?  Probably means he's going to be causing more trouble in the future and they will regret it.

What did you guys think?

Issue #127

Clearly this was a double sized issue even though it says nothing about it on the cover.  Which of course is awesome.

Great start to a new arc which time jumps two years.  We get to see how things have changed since the fallout from last issue and it only raises more questions.  Weirdest thing for me was Carl calling Andrea Mom.  Carl will clearly be a big part of this arc.

I'm already dying to get the next issue.  I was spoiled by the two issues each month and it's killing me knowing I have to wait four weeks,

Issue 167.

I can't believe it's been almost three years since we've posted here.  But after the death in 167 I had to say something.

Very very sad.  There's not many originals left to die and this one stings.  And I think this is the first time Kirkman has written a letter at the back of the book apologizing and lamenting how sad this is to him.  The story truly has a life of its own.

Issue 192

Wow another 2 years pass before getting back to this thread and it is for yet another mouth dropping death.

They killed Rick Grimes.

And it was such an unexpected death.  Just when you think things have settled down.  Bang!  The whole world changes.

And then that's not bad enough.  Then this happens....

Carl, having no idea Rick is dead,  is the one to find him and is attacked by Rick-Zombie.  Carl has to put him down with a shot between the eyes.

I actually teared up at the end of this.  One powerful awful amazing issue.

Title: Re: The Walking Dead Thread

Issue 93

In typical Robert Kirman form, he does it again with this issue.  No one saw it coming.  No spoilers got out that I know of.  And yet this happened.....

The series ended.  That's right - this was the last issue of Walking Dead and he didn't run any promotions because he wanted it to be a surprise to his readers like so many other deaths that happen in this series.

Now it makes sense why Rick died last issue.  This issue jumped to a grown up Carl, probably Rick's age, with a wife (Sophia) and child and we get to see what has happened to the world and those we know in it.  Brilliantly written.  Emotionally heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time.  And Kirkman's farewell letter at the end of the issue get's to you too.
The series ends with Carl Grimes sitting in a rocking chair with his daughter, Andrea, in his lap reading her a story about the great Rick Grimes and how he saved the world.  Her grandfather.  And she says "I know Dad.  You tell me everytime."  Perfect ending.

10 out of 10 Walkers for this issue.
