Yes, bumping this topic.

Tried to set mine last night, but it would not let me set the "record entire series"  option. I don't know if it was just a temporary burp in the system, the fact that there is another show/movie called The Walking Dead that is on before this one ... on a different channel or what the hell.

Got it set though, now I have to go back and set the series up.

Oh, man.  I'm so friggin' excited about this show!  My DVR's been set for like 2 weeks now.  I spent the better part of the last 30 days trying to find it on the DirecTV program guide, but the guide only shows 2 weeks in advance.  Still, knowing this, I kept looking.  I was that excited.

Freakin awesome....this show is in damn good hands.  Blood, gore, headshots, and flesh eating zombies...etc....it's in there!

I know the journey, but they added in a whole lot of stuff that just expands on The Walking Dead universe....

Love the snarky comment coming from the voice Rick hears on the tank radio....That's my boy Glenn!

Yeah, HIGHLY impressed.  Though, I'm not sure I expected anything less from Frank Darabont.

Loved that they fleshed out the backstory a little.  The scene with the Morgan's wife and him trying to shoot her...that really tore at me.

I'm really glad that this first episode was not a "get him to the others, STAT" episode.  They took their time, let us really experience this world they have created...can't wait for next week.

A side note:  Severely pissed at DirecTV for not having AMC in HD.  Quit with the petty BS and get us some high def ZOMBIES!

Oh yuck...that's a dealbreaker for me.  I heard that DirectTV might be dropping G4 too.

I'm watching AMC HD on Verizon FIOS.....downside is the measly DVR can hold only about 20 hours of HD quality programming!  >:(

Wish I still had Dish Network.  Best quality/HD programming all around for me.

Not a lot of time here, but had to drop in and say I though this was a very well done show and even though it was kinda slow ... with reason ... perfect reason, I am ecstatic about this show more than ever. If they can make the first show this superb, while showing the desolation / emptiness, just wait until it gets going full throttle.

Fantastic acting from both main characters (Rick and Morgan?) just drove this episode home.

Gotta go to hospital now because I just busted a nut watching this show.

Sorry - I watched it Monday night and have been swamped this week.

It was just ok.  I doubt I'll keep watching it.

Ha!  Gotcha!  it was AWESOME!!!  What amazes me is they basically got a whole hour an a half out of just issue #1  (for the most part)!!!!!!!

I've got a lot of my non-comic but zombie loving friends hooked on it too.

I can't wait for Sunday night!!

Loving every minute of it!

Second episode.....SPOILERS BELOW!

I thought that maybe Rick would have used that grenade at some point in this episode!  Well maybe since they are spending at least another show in Atlanta, he'll get to pull the pin and use it.

I wish the zombies in the show were a little bit lower functioning - not being able to climb fences or use rocks to break windows, but I guess some are roamers are in various stages of decomposition and mind still retain higher brain functions still.

Gotta love the lighthearted moments even though they've been done in other zombie movies....Love how Glenn was able to unleash the car on the open highway at the end.....but I hope the car alarm doesn't draw them towards their camp!

Didn't really enjoy this episode at all.

Few of the reasons and Spoilers below ........................................
...................................................
...........................................
................................
.......................
.................
..........
....

I thought it was over acted and over acted poorly to boot, especially by Rooker (Merle).

The dialog, other than the discussion about the necklace, bordered on juvenile ("His name is Kevin and I will tell my family about him" ... really? I like the attempt here, but ... fail).

Acting by "Rick" was also less this week. While in the tank, he was reading script, not acting in reaction to what Glenn was saying. I could set a metronome by the rhythm of his responses to Glenn. No variation, no thinking, no processing.

The constant "Ewws" and "ohhs" while there were spreading the zombie goo on. I get it, it is gross. It's like seeing someone eat their favorite candy and hearing them say "yum" or "Mmmm" after every, single bite. WE GET IT.

The way we saw storm clouds looming, and we all knew what that meant, yet it took the drops to fall on someone before we are "shown" what was getting ready to happen and for them to start worrying.

No.

As high as I was after the first one, I am as low on the second. Really disappointing. Really.
 :-\

Hoping episode three returns us to glory.

Thought I posted this before but I guess I forgot to hit "POST".

From Newsarama:

THE WALKING DEAD Renewed for a Second Season on AMC!!

After two strong weeks in the ratings, The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline.com reported Monday afternoon that AMC has officially renewed The Walking Dead for a 13-episode second season.

The news shouldn't come as a surprise: according to the network's press release, the Oct. 31 season premiere of the adaptation of the Image Comics series attracted the largest audience for an original series in AMC history with 5.3 million total viewers, and this past Sunday night's season episode held strong with 4.7 million.

The first season of six episodes is scheduled to wrap on Dec. 5. Thirteen episodes is the standard length for AMC original series such as Mad Men and Breaking Bad. AMC's senior vice president of scripted programming Sharon Tal Yguado is quoted in the release as saying, "I wish all programming decisions were no brainers like this one." (Possible zombie pun?) (http://www.newsarama.com/tv/walking-dead-renewed-season-2-101108.html)

Why in the hell is this season only 6 episodes long?!?!

3 episodes in, and at this rate I think we'll still be in Atlanta in season 3!  I'm all for adding new material that wasn't in the comic series, but this is getting a little excessive!

Other than that minor quibble, I enjoyed the episode immensely.  Even though I know where we're going storywise, I like to see how it plays out in live action.

I know wait in anticipation of Perry's review..... ;D

Title: Re: AMC's WALKING DEAD

I know wait in anticipation of Perry's review..... ;D

 :D

Well then ...

 ;D

This was better.

Spoilers are probable .... likely .... a safe bet ... in here.

We are not back to the amazing tastiness of episode 1, but still better than last weeks horrible effort, though Rooker (Merle) I still see will be a problem for me. His acting is just really bad here. Sad too, because I do usually like his work.

I do feel ya on the Atlanta thing, guess they want to get as much as they can for the set and scenery, but this has to be the last time. I mean really.

I guess they are not going to put Rick through the same thing they did in the comics after what happened in this episode? That is a shame for that was such a huge moment for us readers. An impact-full event that pushed Rick even further towards the edge of his own humanity/sanity at the time and had us (or at least me) with jaw in lap. I understand why they don't do it here, or won't do it here, but it will be missed by me.
 :-\

Also didn't like the way they had Glenn driving the car, up to the site, with the alarm still blaring. Glenn is smarter than that. He is young, but he is very witty when it came to the Atlanta Zombie Charter  ;D and he would have killed the alarm first even if it was safe not to do so. But that may be just my take on his character ... I may be giving too much credit to the character.
 :-\

Loving Dale here, however. Actually like him more in this than in the book. Odd.

All in all still better and hoping episode 4 kicks ass.

And yes, one of my other favorite TV shows ... on AMC in fact (BREAKING BAD) also had a short first season (7 episodes). Good way to test the waters without committing too much I suppose. And that show, since season 2, is just about the best show on TV ... Hoping WALKING DEAD can give it a run.

Last episode had some big changes (compared to it's comic version) but worked pretty well. I liked the addition of the 'gansta' hospital and for a second, a brief second, was actually worried about Glen ... No, not Glenn, but Glen. Glenn I worry about all the time.
 ;D

And a really good Zombie attack as well.

This was a good'n

Yeah - I was psyched with the attack.  Got to watch my wife's mouth drop when they got Andrea's sister.  Reminded me of how I felt when I read it in the comic.

Good times.  Good times.

At first, I had a hard time enjoying the episode mainly because Guillermo the janitor's acting was horrible and over the top, and they had a pathetic white kid trying to play a hard latino gang member. Didn't work for me at all until the old lady came and ruined it for them..

Glad the zombies came and thinned out the campsite...there were way too many survivors there! I gotta say that I think that the show has overstayed it's welcome in Atlanta, but we still have to resolve the whole Merle matter and Shane situation...

I liked it.  A good wrap up.  For a minute there I thought Shane was heading towards his end.

Can't wait to see where they go with a full season next year.

Other than the first 20 minutes and the last 20 seconds, I fear that this season is falling into the same trap as last year. Streeeeetching plot points to the extent that boredom almost takes a dreadful hold on me.

I don't need action to dominate the show, not at all, Hell I am a Bendis fan ... I am use to talking head stories  ;D, but I do need some forward movement.

True, there was a little here and there, but for the most part of this hour and a half, I felt as though I was watching the last 2 seasons of LOST and everyone was just running around in circles. And I mean that both actually and figuratively.

And that opening sequence with Rick talking to, or attempting to talk to ... crap, forgot his name ... talking to the walkie-talkie, was bad. No other way to say it. It took Rick out of acting and into a forced speech that had no flow to it at all. It was if he was reading from cue cards.

Not a downer episode, but I am certainly fearful of this show more than I was at episode 4 of last year.

Anyone caught up and watch the "Cherokee Rose" episode yet?

I'm beginning to like these new "made for tv" characters.....Darryl and T-Dogg specifically.

The "well-walker" scene where it splits in half was awesome!

Loved the awkwardness between Glenn and Maggie!

And Shane wearing Otis' overalls at the beginning of the episode was hilarious!

Good show. Great questions being asked. And good character moments.

Anyone watch the Talking dead. The writer gives the timeline and/or sequence between what was seen and how the result came to be the barn scene.

The sequence of events and the characters involved behind the scenes adds layers to the story.

Yeah, I can understand why they'd take December off - holidays and all. But it makes no sense to take off January too!

AMC Announces 16 Episode Order for The Walking Dead Season 3

AMC announced today from the Television Critics Association (TCA) Press Tour in Pasadena, CA that the third season of The Walking Dead will consist of 16 episodes. Previous season orders were for 13 episodes. AMC's international broadcast partner FOX International Channels (FIC) will follow the 16 episode order and structure a similar schedule worldwide. The Walking Dead is based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics. Glen Mazzara serves as the series' showrunner and executive producer. Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert and Frank Darabont are executive producers with Greg Nicotero as co-executive producer.

The Walking Dead has received rave reviews from countless critics, both domestic and international, who heralded the series as "above all else, The Walking Dead hasn't lost the most important ingredient in its strangely successful recipe: it's thrilling" (The Hollywood Reporter), "...with Dead's riveting cast of characters, the personal dynamics are almost as potent as the gory thrills" (Us Weekly), "The Walking Dead is a feast. Dig in." (The Guardian, UK), "It doesn't even take three minutes to realize that this series is setting standards" (Der Tagesspiegel, Germany).

The Walking Dead secured a 2010 Golden Globe® nomination for Best Television Series - Drama and won the 2011 Emmy® Award for Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup. The series tells the story of the months and years that follow after a zombie apocalypse. It follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, who travel in search of a safe and secure home.

The Walking Dead's second season returns with all-new episodes Sun., Feb. 13 at 9/8c on AMC.

Looks like we finally may get that shooting us comic fans were blown away by in the comics.

If anyone remembers, there was an actor that wanted to quit when Durabont got released, well ...

Should have been given walking papers in the first season, and play the character out like in the comics.

It's about time if you ask me....The best from Walking Dead is yet to come.

I hope so, because this dragging story-lines out for 5 episodes is killing my ass.  >:(

What irks me besides the slow pacing of the show, is that the hollywood trade articles that I read says that the actor leaving would be the worst thing for the show.....like he is the best thing going for it.  When the fact of the matter is, the character should have been gone in season 1, and they are just dragging out the crazy....

I hope that they give the actor the send-off as predestined in the comics, and they also pass up the actor for the role in Darabont's new project.   :D

My wife is so pissed.

She reads the Walking Dead blog on the Wall Street Journal website and one of the posters spoiled how the thing we are all waiting for happened in the comics.  I've managed to keep that a secret all this time because she hates to be spoiled and one guy killed it.

Well, I'm not sure it's going to happen....or anytime soon at this pace.  ;D

They way things are unfolding is so different from the comics, so she shouldn't be too mad....

Season 3 Spoiler .....

The Governor has been cast for season 3. He is David Morrissey ... wait ... what, who? I remember him from Dr. Who, but that is it. What really troubles me is ... does THIS GUY (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0607375/) make you think of the Governor?

Nope, but neither does Danny Trejo like all the fanboys are wanting....

I'm sure with a long haired wig, and some make-up, anyone can "look" like the character.  I'm sure the casting people saw something in this guy, that screamed to them.....

Concur. 45 minutes talking about one topic is just dragging the shit out of this show. Now that was followed by, admittedly, an ending I NEVER would have saw coming, and although I don't like losing him as a fan of his acting, it does drive the point home that no one is safe.

Just watched it. Wow. Very unexpected.  With this big a divergent from the comic I hope it doesn't mean the other death we're waiting on isn't going to happen in the way we want it to.  Was that vague enough?

As a side note:

If the cow was still alive shouldn't the zombie have still been feasting on him?

you know...i saw a story online the other day (wish i could remember where now... :() that said....

wait for it...

a lot of fans were pissed because AMC had released an image of the box cover for the season 2 DVD set.  it said on the box that the set contains bonus material, extras and SHANE'S LAST EPISODE!!!  i wonder now if that was a ruse so that everyone would be expecting shane's demise and the the gut punch of dale buying the farm was that much more intense.  maybe shane will stick around?  it actually would be kind of cool to see him against the governor.  maybe he could meet his demise at the hands of the governor and in his final moments realize that he himself has been heading down this path and he sacrifices himself to save rick.

what you think?

Title: Re: AMC's WALKING DEAD
Post by: Perry on March 06, 2012, 01:17:06 PM
I am no longer speculating on this show.  :D But ...

I can see where Dale is the one we all heard was so pissed about Darabont's firing (having worked with him in every show/movie he has directed) that he wanted off the show, and this was the out. I also see how Shane can NOT exist in this group. Not because he is wrong (or right) but because the turmoil is too great. He has to die or at least leave.

Title: Re: AMC's WALKING DEAD
Post by: Wringer on March 06, 2012, 01:39:42 PM
What I liked about the episode was that  the ending gave me the same feeling as the book.  Anyone one can die!  Yea some of the hand-wringing this ep was a bit much and could have been handled more subtley but the fact that they caught us completely by surprise, it reminded me of some of the shocking bits from the book:

deaths of Shane and the twin by Carl, Lori and the baby, Carl shot in the head

while i will miss
Dale
as I loved his character in the book...this is not the book and if it played out all the scenes like the book it would become predictable and would loose the edge it has.

I think the end of season 2 will be what is expected, but maybe not how, AMC did a great job on keeping everyone focused and discussing that possible death while keeping this one under wraps and able to maintain the impact.  well done.

I am still really enjoying this series and it's slow burn.  I like the slower pace as it give time to dig into the character and flesh them out so when they buy the farm it hurts.  Is the pacing perfect, no, but it is far better than most shows on commercial TV.

I have absolutely no problem adding new material to keep things fresh, or flesh out the characters more to make them more three dimensional, but deviating from the book this much irritates me.  I read that the actor was one of the people who spoke out vehemently when Darabont was let go.  I think that it may have played a part in his demise sooner than later....

Hah.....I just saw Perry's post that touched upon my last sentence...

i really don't mind when it deviates from the book like that.  keeps it a tad fresh and keeps you guessing.  who knows?  if kirkman had to go back and write the comics over again, maybe this is what would have happened.

I'm dieing to talk about this episode.  Don't open the spoiler unless you've seen it.

Finally!!!!  I am a little pissed that Carl didn't shoot him like in the comic but we got a bit of a nod with Carl shooting zombie Shane.  I know this season was a little slow but I've really liked it.  As always, Kirkman rewards those who stick with him with a payoff.

I'm a little less mad since Rick killed him and I like the way he did it.  I can't wait to see next week as the zombies over run the farm!

The comic book is still better.  ;D

The episode wasn't bad, but it would've had a bigger impact, if it played out the way it did in the comics. It's pretty much cut and dry in the book...in the show, it's up in the air on how you interpret the way things went down.

Title: Re: AMC's WALKING DEAD

Yep, kept expecting Carl to come out of the woods and take care of Shane like in the books. But like you said, Jeff, it was a nice nod that he did at least get to shoot a version of Shane.
Absolutely loved the visuals of them standing apart in the open field on the knoll lit by moon light and fog screen. Perfect scene.

Title: Re: AMC's WALKING DEAD
Post by: jedicow on March 13, 2012, 02:52:35 AM
i really kept expecting Daryl to show up in the nick of time and put an arrow through the back of Shane's head.  all of the lead up to it...from Daryl telling Rick that he shouldn't have to do all the heavy lifting to Daryl figuring out what was really going on after they found Randall (and to be honest, i think he had an inkling before that)...i just felt taht if they weren't going to follow the comic, that was a way to make Daryl even more of a badass.

BTW...do any of you guys watch "Talking Dead" on AMC?  an intersting theory was brought up on the show...

someone suggested that Shane took Rick out there not to kill Rick but for Rick to kill him.  they said that the speech that Lori gave to Shane may have made him figure out that nothing was ever really going to happen between them and he was looking for a way out.
