It's here!

Finally one that tied in with DC Reibirth.  Nothing new here but an issue to get us ramped up.  I'm there already! Let's get moving!

Looking forward to whatever event this leading up to and on board the Flash train.

And finally, I read it!!!

First and foremost ... HOORAY!!! While yes, like Jeff said, this was more a continuation/set-up issue, but damn was it good. The art, almost Travel Foreman like, yet not as abstract, also had a hint of Infantino in it (if you look at Flash run you can see it) and while I am not normally a fan of either of those art styles, together they work. And work well. Hell even that awful damn lightning/ lines on Barry's costume looked great, and THAT is saying something.

Really can't wait for this #1 to hit now. So glad this worked for me.

8 outta 10 memories ... light the corners of my mind

Issue 1

Not a fan yet, but not a hater yet either.  Well, except maybe a hater of the art.  Really hard for me to look at.

I just hope we aren't about to get...
yet another speedster since we also now have the two Wally's.   Angry

Well, this helping me come back to the Flash fold. I prefer a more knowledgeable (comic-version) Barry Allen, than the slipshod goof that was most of the Peter Parker -inspired Barry of the New 52 writing.

The art really reminds me of Stefano Claudinelli, so it actually helps me a little bit. Wink

Hmmm, issue #4 kinda fell off for me although ... man ... the art was so much cleaner. I liked that, but I also missed the "violent" looking art of the first three issues. Still, this seemed more of a filler or sidetrack after issue #3's ending.

It was okay.

Issue #4

It was okay. I think for me, this comes down to that I don't...care? or like? the books current supporting cast. I don't like August in the slightest, the scientist lady is a brilliant sexy cypher character, and this Iris is a Lois Lane....but I think she always was a clone of Lois, anyways? And Wally2 still does not interest me in the slightest.

That, and I still hate the lines on the uniform. One of the GREATEST costumes ruined by Jim Lee's design. Ugh.

The story is okay, and it will only be okay in hindsight as long as NO ONE is left with speed powers when it's all said and done.

They just better come back to that character at the end of issue #3 soon. Much like Justice League, that one single panel pushed the book higher up my rankings for, if nothing else, the "what could happen" aspect.

Well, if I quote myself from before

it will only be okay as long as NO ONE is left with speed powers when it's all said and done.

Nearly, almost, and close to the mark. Just not close enough!!!

By issue 8, some of the clunky stuff I complain about seemed to soften up around the edges and fit better to me as I read it. I think I may be more on board the title than I thought I was, originally.

As I said earlier, watching old school Barry be put through the wringer when matched up against current comic writing ideals is fun. He still won out, but in a hard way.

So, I'm pretty cool with the title. Continuing on!!

I think I just don't like Joshua Williamson's Superhero writing.

After reading the latest Flash issue (#9), the meeting of the two Wally's, I found myself comparing his writing to that of a certain James Robinson. There is a little hidden style of throwing exposition in the writing that just bugs me at times. I was going to remember what it was in this particular issue that hit me that way, I was, truly, but I have of course forgotten. Still, there is something here, and in just about every other Flash issue he has written that just sticks its nose out while I am reading that ... doesn't "ruin" the issue with stink, but puts just enough of an odor that I am not overly pleased with the smell.

Not sure why, and I wish I could say maybe it is just his Flash run, but I didn't enjoy his Illuminati title either for similar reasons. He is just pointing his finger too much at times instead of letting the art tell us what we need to know. And again, not always and not in large chunks, but still...
 Sad

I wonder if it is something he feels he needs to do in company owned books because I have not yet noticed the same thing in any of his other books at Image. His creator stuff has a constant enough flow where he doesn't make my mind come to a halt due to trying to point something out. Of course now that I say that, Maybe in his Nailbiter I have noticed it a time or two as well, but not in his Ghosted nor Birthright (which I am admittedly waaaay behind on).

And of course I have to be honest and say that the regular artist on this book, not this latest issue #9, but on the other issues, also keeps me at arms distance from going all in on this title as his style works very well in showcasing those lightning bolts and streaks of ink and scratchy lines that has become a staple of Barry's look for way too long. A look I just don't like. Heck this issue, with the fill-in artist, still made Barry and younger Wally out to be just all kinds of scratchy looking, with only the older Wally having some resemblance of what the Flash use to look like. Just a nice clean outfit/suit/costume with some blur every now and then. Remember that? Now all the Flash seems to look like is Bill the Cat. Quick, is THIS Flash or Bill? You struggle with an answer don't you?

Ugh, I want to like this, but when all is said and drawn, I just don't. Sorry Barry. It's not you, its me.

I was just coming in to say that I think I'm realliy on board with the title. Smiley

Looking back over the body of these 9 issues (not each issue as a single particular, but parts of the whole), then I found that I was enjoying my time on the book. Oh, it's not winning on every beat, or killing it each week and beating all comers to the top of my stack, but I'm glad to have read them.

I would like a different sort of artist. This obnoxious lighting bolt blasting everywhere off the suit reminds me of Venom's tongue when first drawn by Erik Larsen. Sure, it was a large creepy reptile tongue by creator Todd MacFarlane, but Larsen made it this obnoxious 9 foot slime snake that has only been aped and copied since. I...am not a fan of that.

Just as I am not a fan of this rendition of the Scarlet Speedster from the New52 till now.
