Wow.  Scott Snyder has some competition.  Jeff Lemire's Green Arrow is every bit as good - maybe better - than Snyder's Batman.

I picked up the back issues where Lemire started - Issue 17 to current and although you can enjoy this from any issue; I reccomend picking it up from the beginning.  This is a great journey as Oliver Queen tries to find out the truth about his father.  Great story and filled with plenty of surprises.

Komodo - the first arc which kicks off all the mystery and sets the stage for the journey Ollie is about to take.  This introduces a lot of the major players.  Everything that can go wrong for Green Arrow does right off the bat and the story that unfolds follows a seemingly un-winnable  fight for GA to find out the truth while being hunted by the police and the villains.

A 2-part story introducing the New 52 Count Vertigo and Shado - a key part of his fathers secrets.

The Villains Month Count Vertigo comic that brought my attention to this series.  I'm really glad I read this as I have a new comic I'm excited about.

I haven't read 24 & 25 yet but will probably do that today after football.  I just couldn't wait to go ahead and post about this comic.

DC is doing so little thats right these days but THIS comic is one that is hitting it out of the partk.

BUY THIS BOOK!!

Lemire is a great writer (easily in the top 5 at DC) and while we may differ slightly on him being better than Snyder  Wink, he is not the reason I am not buying that book. He is certainly worthy of my dollars as a writer, but I am still too stuck on my older Ollie and just have no interest, as of now, reading about this new, 20 something Ollie. Especially a young Ollie that, plot wise, ties into the dreadful ARROW tv show (sorry Jimmy, I know you are a huge fan).

Honestly, I may have actually even tried this new seires with the younger Ollie once Lemire came on, had it not been for that tv show. Yes, I hate that show that much.
 Undecided

Very happy that you have found another top notch title however, Jeff. Love it when people are able to find a comic they truly enjoy!
 Cool

I also can vouch for Jeff's giddiness and joy about this book. Never read it, but I am sure it is good knowing Lemire is writing it and Jeff is telling all to read it. I trust them both. As Jeff said ...

BUY THIS BOOK!!!

(Edit - Calling my boy Dave now to see if he has any issues  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy DAMN IT)

Eh, what do you know? HA! Cheesy

As far as the comparison of pre/New 52, I feel that the character that really could use an utter reboot was GA. Seriously, the 'stick it to the man' champion of the O'Neil/Adams era is looong gone, and all we've had since then is bad imitations of that sentiment (same as anyone who wrote DD after Miller).

Now, at least Ollie has always been shown to have a personality-that personality may have changed between writers, but that personality was always (to me) the reason why this guy would be on the Justice League (which still is something that I wonder about Hawkeye and the Avengers).

But, New Olliver Queen is a project that deserved a revamp and a better emphasis of who he is.

Unfortunately, they dropped the ball since issue #1, and it's only been with issue 17 that DC finally has something that can hitch their cart too.

I'll read this Green Arrow. Oh yes, yes I will.

Glad you caught up Jeff!!

Not sure why that would be the case, but I got a couple issues, gonna check it out at least.  Smiley

I thought you would.  I really liked the picture I posted at the beginning of this thread.  It's a two-page spread in the comic.

Yeah, I like the use of "showcase boxes" in the panels.

Just finished reading 17-24.

While Jeff and Jimmy are absolutely correct in their praise for this title (it is well written and the art is top notch), I still find it hard to enjoy this younger Ollie. Add in the obvious tie-in to a show that I couldn't get past the first episode and it suffers more. For example, I felt nothing when the one character at the end of #24 is revealed, as I am assuming he is a character from the show, and thus there was no impact for me upon his reveal/arrival.

Now, again, don't get me wrong, this is a top notch comic. One that I enjoyed overall and one very worthy of the praise that both gentlemen mentioned above give, but once more, my own mental problems prevent me from wanting to add this title to my pull. That said, I would like to continue reading it, so hopefully my boy Dave obliges in that regard.

Bottom line, even with my two personal issues (Ollie's age and the CW), this is easily an 8 outta 10 "Spidey can't have a totem story but GA can?" book that EVERYONE should read.

Has anyone read the issues post-Lemire?  Watching Arrow has reignited my interest in this book but I don't want to add it if I"m going to be disappointed.   Grin

Most of Lemire's most important elements are shuffled off in the first issue. They are spoken of in narration, but are quickly excused for the new writers to begin.

And the new writers, the show's front runners in writing and producing, well, the book becomes a little more 'Arrow' and a little more pre-New 52.

I tried not to do a knee-jerk reaction at the completely different outing-because it is! Yet, that's what happens with new teams. Kieron Gillem was not Matt Fraction on Iron Man. Rick Remender was not Brubaker on Cap. Yet, some are good, some are poor, but all must pull their own directions.

So, I'm taking stock of the new direction, and watching...and waiting. I don't immediately love it; I appreciate it, as I don't mind this Oliver Queen either. But there is just a bit of something....else that I want. What that may be? I cannot truly say. I can just say that the book doesn't have it quite...yet.

Thanks Jimmy!  I think I'll wait to see how you ultimately land before picking it up.

And so it ends.

A new business mogol/figure is set up as Oliver's nemesis. Oliver is taken to a low point, but is risen by the end due to the aid of friends, compatriots, and new allies.

The TV writers' run will end as a 6 issue stint that brings in the character of Felicity Smoak, the new52 Mia (sick of saying that now, I come to realize. "The New52 version of..." BLECH!!! Angry  )

As it ends....it was a fine little tale. A decent read for a fill-in, but nothing earth-shattering, or that amazing either. Think of Brad Meltzer's 'Archer's Quest' and THAT is an amazing 6 issue 'fill-in.' Wow is what I said to that.

With a new team (that I'm excited for with author Ben Percy with art by Richard Zircher. Looking up Ben Percy, he writes 'mythic tales'. From an excerpt: "Percy says, "I think I'm writing about it with a mythic voice. My stories are about bigfoot and bearded ladies, horse ranches, marijuana colonies and elk-hunting resorts. And I'm writing about all these things with a salty, mystical voice (that) I hope partners the material and the landscape." (not a quote on his future Green Arrow, just his writing). I think I'm also very excited for Patrick Zircher, who I have enjoyed for a long time on art!

So, this is done. I'll resell it. No big deal. Not disappointed I bought it, but nothing I will really say any more on.

Okay, so this new team starts at 41? And they are NOT tying into the show at all?

If that is the case, I may ask my boy to start hooking me up again with this title. I had no interest in the show heavy GA, but if it is just going to be a regular GA comic with no tv connection I can most certainly come on for Zircher alone.
