Well, this is certainly interesting: Absolutely Fabulous (NYSE: AbFab), one of the most daring and hilarious sitcoms of the last 20 years, is being resurrected for three all-new episodes. Filming is set for later this year, with stars Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley reprising their classic roles as the decadent and ridiculous Patsy and Eddy. The two were a pair of Stoli-chugging, coke-snorting, label-whoring divas, and were held up as shining lifestyle examples by a generation of gay men trapped in the otherwise-unfabulous ‘90s. This would be the third revival for the series, which stopped its initial run back in 1996, but aired specials in 2001 and 2004.

In honor of this news, let's we revisit some of the major AbFab characters and actors who played them:

Jennifer Saunders starred as Edwina Margaret Rose Monsoon, or Eddy for short. She somehow runs a PR company, dresses in an extreme, fashion-forward style (read: idiotically), and is often led astray by her best friend, Patsy.

Joanna Lumley was Patsy Stone (full name: Eurydice Colette Clytemnestra Dido Bathsheba Rabelais Patricia Cocteau Stone), a childhood friend of Eddy’s who led a traumatic and loveless childhood, leading her to act like a near-sociopath in adulthood. She starred in a series of softcore Bond film ripoffs, including Bond Meets Black Emmanuelle, Boldfinger, and The Man with Thunder Balls. Though she holds contempt for most things, she despises Eddy’s daughter Saffy above all else.

Julia Sawalha played Saffy Monsoon, Edina’s bookish and constantly put-upon daughter. She’s all grown up now, and most recently could be seen starring in the BBC’s Lark Rise to Candleford, a very proper costume drama.

Jane Horrocks was Bubble, an exceedingly odd bird of a personal assistant who spoke in a hard-to-understand accent—though not quite as hard to understand as when she was speaking in complete gibberish.

June Whitfield was Mrs. Monsoon, Edina’s sweet, dotty mom, whom Edina abuses and refers exclusively to as "The Old Woman.”

Christopher Malcolm played Justin, Saffron’s gay dad and Edina’s first ex-husband. He hasn’t done much since AbFab, but...he was in both The Empire Strikes Back and Labyrinth, making him a hero to my childhood (and current) self.

Welcome back, everyone!

Loved AbFab. One of the original shows on Comedy Central ... before it became Comedy Central.

Not sure if I like the idea of them pulling it off after all these years however. But hell, would love to be wrong.

Avatar mash-up is from Ross Pearsall... and of course those that own the original characters Smiley
