For me, although perhaps in the minority, I just have to ask ... Why?
If people were to never make remakes, we would not have:
The Thing (1982)
Dracula (1931)
Dawn of the Dead (2004)
The Magnificent Seven (1960)
The Fly (1986)
Casino Royale (2006)
Scarface (1983)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)
However, we are saddled with:
Halloween (2008)
Psycho (1998)
Godzilla (1998)
Planet of the Apes (2001)
...and a myriad other horrible films.
It's a double edged sword. I mean, do we really NEED remakes? No, but they are here to stay. They've been around as long as film itself, ever since one filmmaker thought they could do better than another, or wanted to pay homage to their favorite flick.
Will True Grit work? Who knows, but considering the source, I'll give it a shot.
Hell, I'll probably like it
