20XX #1

Now I have no idea, whatsoever, what this book is about or the creative team behind it, all I know is this one one guy at the LCS (the small one right down the street from me) said that he has read both issues of this and that the first issue was very well done and that he loved it, but then said as good as the first issue was, this second issue was that bad. It sucked. I have no idea why he felt that way, I didn't ask (I don't know the guy and try to avoid him when I see him actually  ;D). However, I have also heard the exact same thing from one of the YouTube guys I listen to/watch. Again, I am like Sgt. Schultz on this book ... "I know nothing. NOTHING"  :D, but I just wanted to warn you in-case you enjoyed this first issue, to be prepared for a let down ... possibly.
 :D :D

As for my list this week ... Why not, I haven't thrown what I will try to read up in awhile so here goes ...

East of West .. Whatever I can get to  ;D

Batman #86
Justice League Dark #18
Lois Lane #7
Sandman: Overture #1 (Maybe)
Hellblazer #1 (newest, current volume ... again, maybe)

Marvels X #1
X-Men #4
New Mutants #5
X-Force #'s 3-5 (yes another maybe. Jeff? Ya think this is worth another look for me? I hear it is kind of important)

X-Force #'s 3-5 (yes another maybe. Jeff? Ya think this is worth another look for me? I hear it is kind of important)

It is for what happened at the end of issue 1 but that gets resolved by issue 3 (I think?).  Issues 4 & 5 are setting up for something that could be important.

As for 20XX, it’s a Johnathan Luna book which is why I picked it up.  I’ll keep that in mind about issue 2.  Thanks for the heads up!

Spider-Man: Life Story #4

Black Cat #1

———————————————————————————

Fallen Angels #5 - I’m not a fan of the villain on this but I’m mildly interested in the team X-23 put together.  I’ll wrap this arc then likely move this to Unlimited reading.

New Mutants #5 - back to outer space.  Not Hickmans best IMO but still worth getting.  Plus, I like Deathbird.

X-Force #5 - I’m not sure what say here.  Grisly comes to mind. Beast seems a little too dark and out of character.  Still, fun issue to read and nice wrap to this arc.

Skulldigger and Skeleton Boy #1 - This was fun.  Skeleton Boys origin with a LOT of promise for what’s to come!

Batman #86 - best part of this comic was when...SP. Batman accidentally called Lucius Alfred. SP. Just heartbreaking.

20XX #1 - Great first issue!  Your friend did not lie about that, Perry.  Now I’m worried about issue 2!

Hmmm, okay, Maybe I will just jump in at #4 and if I am lost as to what happened in issue #3 I will ask?
 ;D
Of course all of this is if I have time, which ...
 :D

As for 20XX, it’s a Johnathan Luna book which is why I picked it up.  I’ll keep that in mind about issue 2.  Thanks for the heads up!

Ahhh, okay, well, I hope both are issues hit for ya, but maybe don't feel too down if issue #2 doesn't hit, maybe #3 will. Or maybe #2 will hit just fine for you?
 ;D
I don't really know either one of the guys that said that, so what do I know?
 ;D

If your going to jump back in read issue 3.  One extra issue won’t kill you and with your memory you’ll just get lost.  :D :D :D

Fallen Angels #5 - I’m not a fan of the villain on this but I’m mildly interested in the team X-23 put together.  I’ll wrap this arc then likely move this to Unlimited reading.

I think that was the last issue? I think? Maybe not though. I don't see it in Previews anymore

New Mutants #5 - back to outer space.  Not Hickmans best IMO but still worth getting.  Plus, I like Deathbird.

Oh man!  >:( I was looking forward to Hickman in space. Not good huh? Dang it. Maybe I will wait on that issue too. I hate this having to buy comics crap
 :( >:(
Or at least trying to only buy the good ones
 ;D

X-Force #5 - I’m not sure what say here.  Grisly comes to mind. Beast seems a little too dark and out of character.  Still, fun issue to read and nice wrap to this arc.

Wrap up? Hmmm, maybe I will just ask what happened?
No, I hear this is pretty important to the future ... possibly.

Skulldigger and Skeleton Boy #1 - This was fun.  Skeleton Boys origin with a LOT of promise for what’s to come!

Really enjoyed it as well!!!! Nice to get back to good Black Hammer issues
 :-\

20XX #1 - Great first issue!  Your friend did not lie about that, Perry.  Now I’m worried about issue 2!

UH-OH!!!!!

Justice League Dark #18
Lois Lane #7
Sandman: Overture #1
Hellblazer #1

Marvels X #1
X-Men #4
New Mutants #5
X-Force #'s 3-5

East of West: The World - A quick four or five page story that, I found, you read before issue #16 that explains how
Conquest gets his new ride  :D
It is not at all needed, but the issue also contains information on the world of East of West that is so far known to us. Sort of an encyclopedia ... so worth the $2 (or free for those on Comixology Unlimited ... along with the first 19 issues of the series). Gonna keep this on the tablet for awhile and refer back to it later.
 ;D

Batman #86 - I enjoyed this. A lot. Nice to see Tony Daniel back on Batman art duties, his stuff just looks so good for Bats. Although that first image of Selena was all kinds of weird looking with that one huge ass eye? :-\

HAHA, so funny (and cool) that you brought that up. I have been trying to wait for both you and Jeff to catch up on your MU reading of Immortal Hulk so I can begin again. Wanted to go through that with you guys. So funny you had a similar thought on EoW.
Although sadly, for you, it may take awhile on the East of West knowing how much I usually get to read in a week  :D, but yeah, let's do it baby!!!
:)
8)

EDIT -
I did a fast look at what issues volume 7 contained (I think that was where you need to start again, yeah?) and it looks like that volume starts with issue #30. I will try to get there as fast as I can, but again ... I don't get to read to much, so it may take a few.
Like I said before my first sexual encounter ... be patient, be gentle. ;D
(Okay, that is not true at all)
 :D :D

Uncanny X-Men #21 - Another good issue here as well. Will be interesting to see how this wraps up.

Invaders #6 - interesting end to this arc.  Didn’t see that coming and anamorphic will have to pay for this.

War of the Realms #6 - Good ending to this event.  Looking forward to the future of Thor.

Dead Man Logan #9 - This arc wraps up and then sets up for the final arc.  Get to see some familiar faces and what happened to them in this world. Good book.

Thor #13 - Cul Borson focused story and I will say it was a very good one shot.  Perhaps he's not as bad as he thought he was.   ;)

Thor #14 - Nice tie-in to War of Realms #6.  Gives you a little extra with the 4 Thors.  Thumbs up.

The Boys Vol 10: Butcher Baker Candlestickmaker - Butcher’s origin story.  Now we know why he’s a wee bastard.  ;D  That one scene....gruesome. And definitely not how it happened on the TV series.  Good stuff.

I loved that Butcher' mini. Not like he's a great, or a good man...but at least you could see where a man of his ilk might be driven the way he is.

Venom #14 & 15 - although I like the Jack O Lantern conflict, War of Realms derailed this series.  Glad it’s over and we can get back to the real story.

Spider-Man: Life Story #4 - interesting take on the clone stuff.  Man, Otto and Norman were looking old! Pete’s gotta be pushing 50 in 1995.  Can’t wait to see how his age affects him in the next issue.

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #8 - I’m starting to lose interest.  This was a good story so it must be just me.

Black Cat #1 - Loved this first issue.  It has some problems, like this guild treating Felicia like a second string thief when she just recently ran a Kingpin like gang.  But I got over that nit pick and enjoyed.

Lois Lane #7
Sandman: Overture #1
Hellblazer #1

X-Men #4
New Mutants #5
X-Force #'s 3-5

**********************************

Justice League Dark #18 - An okay issue. Man this series drives me crazy. Blows me away and then ...  :-\

X-Force #3 - Only got this issue as I wanted to see if I really needed to buy #4 and #5. I do.  ;D
Marvels X #1 - An interesting start to this Marvels prequel. The art is decent, or at least serviceable (man that makes it sound bad ... it is just not Alex Ross, ya know?)

East of West #16
East of West #17
East of West #18
East of West #19
East of West #20
East of West #21
East of West #22
East of West #23
East of West #24 - Some of these one page splash pages ... OH MY GOD!!! I would kill for some of these. The more I get into this series the more I find myself falling head over heels with Nick Dragotta's art. I have always liked his style, but the appreciation I now have for what he is throwing on these pages ... perfection!!!
Also love how Hickman brings us back to points in time we have already been exposed to, yet shows us more of the scene that we did not know about. I especially love when it happens to parts I had questioned prior, felt lost on if you will, but he brings it back around to show me that I didn't miss anything, he just waited to show us.
 ;D
The bomb in the mouth thing for example.
 :D
The who really did that and the reason is not shown until, what, 10 or so issues later? Love that. Well, I love that reading it this way, all in one go (essentially). No way, as I have said before, would I have enjoyed this ... been able to follow this ... if I read this month to month.

Yes, monthly comics are great for that occasional grand cliffhanger, but when you (read as "I"  ;D) forget why the cliffhanger happened, is it really better?

Gideon Falls #19 - Still puzzling but that last page.  Creepy!

Undiscovered Country #2 - Good second issue.  The more answers we get, the more questions we have.  I like the characters here and watching the onion peel.

Doctor Mirage #5 - Final issue of this mini series.  Honestly, I didn't enjoy this at all until the last 3 pages of this issue which really just sets things up for the next Doctor Mirage story.  So if your thinking about getting this, my recommendation is to skip it.

Rai #2 - A very good issue!  I like how these are stand alone stories as Rai and Raijun journey across the country.  I don't want to spoil but I will recommend you grab this one.

The Boys Vol 11: Over the Hill with Swords of a Thousand Men - HOLY COW!!!!!  What could possibly come in the next Volume since this one wrapped up some pretty BIG THINGS!!!!!  Loved it.  Really really good book!

The Boys Vol 12: The Bloody Doors Off - Wow!  What an ending for this series.  Just one gut punch after another.  I don't know how I missed this when it came out but I'm so glad I read this now.  Can't wait to see how the TV show takes this since it's already taken a bit of a different route.  Gonna seem weird not having the next chapter to read.

Right? The ending pace, the content, the lack of obnoxiousness, gratuitious smut and well, assholishness really made the end just hit one hard. Definitely makes me glad I read it!!!

Jinny Hex and Cassie are good characters but DC totally ruined Amethyst. The stories are cute and poke fun at the DCU. I really liked this issue with the Wonder Twins and Naomi joining.

Oh? Before this series or was this a Bendis thing?

I have seen she is getting her own mini(?), I think that is what it is. It's been the preview pages at the back of most of the DC titles I have read this week (or so)

I actually had similar questions about Young Justice, as in how much has Bendis ruined done of my favorite characters, particularly Conner? ;D

I'm going to add one more that's been sitting in my ComiXology Library.  I've got all three volumes sitting in there.

ADD: Outlaw Territory Vol. 1
Outlaw Territory is a collection of stories from a rougher and grittier time in America. This reads a lot faster than a thought.  Some really fun short stories in this book.  A lot like Netflix's "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs" (A Coen brothers movie you MUST see if you haven't!).  I may actually finish this tonight after all!

Outlaw Territory Vol. 1
1.   Daniel 5:27   by   Moritat

5.   American Dream   by   Jose L. Torres
6.   The First Car in Mexico   by   Ivan Brandon
7.   The Most Civilized Establishment from Ocean to Ocean   by   James Patrick

28.   We Meet At Twelve   by   P.J. Kryfko
29.   Ass Meat   by   Simon Fraser
30.   Memories   by   Michael Woods

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1.   Daniel 5:27   by   Moritat - Ah, good ole "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" type showdown.

2.   Ballad of a Badman   by   Joe Kelly - Wow.  Really good short tale.  Very surprising twist to what seemsed like a by the numbers story.  It is not so.

3.   Sundown   by   Joshua Ortega - Don't ever kill a man's horse.  It won't go well for you.  And doesn't for these guys.

4.   Dispatch   by   Shay - A sad Civil War tale with a slower pace and a lot of tension.

5.   American Dream   by   Jose L. Torres - Fast paced shoot 'em up.  Was fun.

6.   The First Car in Mexico   by   Ivan Brandon - very short story about Pancho Villa.

7.   The Most Civilized Establishment from Ocean to Ocean   by   James Patrick - Ha ha ha!  Very very funny.  Definately a weird day for these bank robbers.

8.   AHIGA   by   Christian Beranck - This Indian (Native American) clearly wants his country back.  More shoot outs!

9.   Incident Over Thirty-Six Days in the Colorado Rockies   by   Joshua Hale Fialkov - Ooooooo.  Creepy!  Really good one and I like the art.

10.   Rio Chino   by   Greg Pak - Another winner.  Should have known is was a Greg Pak tale.  Not much for a chinaman in the old west to do once the railroad is finished.  Except take revenge on those that kill chinamen.  My favorite story so far...

Still moving quickly and it looks like I'll get through this after all.

Outlaw Territory Vol. 1
1.   Daniel 5:27   by   Moritat
2.   Ballad of a Badman   by   Joe Kelly
3.   Sundown   by   Joshua Ortega
4.   Dispatch   by   Shay
5.   American Dream   by   Jose L. Torres
6.   The First Car in Mexico   by   Ivan Brandon
7.   The Most Civilized Establishment from Ocean to Ocean   by   James Patrick
8.   AHIGA   by   Christian Beranck
9.   Incident Over Thirty-Six Days in the Colorado Rockies   by   Joshua Hale Fialkov
10.   Rio Chino   by   Greg Pak
11.   One Man's Land   by   Stephen Reedy
12.   The Bounty Killers   by   Steven Grant
13.   He Will Set Your Fields On Fire   by   Chris Moreno
14.   The Weaponsmith   by   Fred Van Lente
15.   Nora   by   M. Sean McManus
16.   The Apprentice   by   Steve Orlando
17.   Griswold's Song   by   Chad Kinkle
18.   Savage Practices   by   Leonard N. Wallace
19.   For Old Times Sake   by   Pat Loika
20.   Gutshot   by   Michael Woods

21.   Them What Comes   by   mpMann
22.   Craftsmanship   by   Frank Beaton
23.   We Never Sleep   by   Nemo Woodbrine
24.   The Ballad of Sid Grenadine   by   Josh Wagner
25.   The More Things Change   by   Skipper Martin
26.   Working on Christmas   by   Steve Orlando
27.   Hell Hath No Fury   by   Noble Larimer
28.   We Meet At Twelve   by   P.J. Kryfko
29.   Ass Meat   by   Simon Fraser
30.   Memories   by   Michael Woods

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

11.   One Man's Land   by   Stephen Reedy - Another funny ending to an age old conflict.

12.   The Bounty Killers   by   Steven Grant - The title says it all.  Another one with a funny twist.

13.   He Will Set Your Fields On Fire   by   Chris Moreno - I knew I was going to love this story the second I saw the monkey...

14.   The Weaponsmith   by   Fred Van Lente - With Van Lente writing this one I felt I might be in for a treat.  And I was.  A short story of revenge - quaker style.

15.   Nora   by   M. Sean McManus - Ok that was a little disturbing. A kid grwoing up in a whore house is not a pleasant subject.  Didn't care for this story as much as the others.

16.   The Apprentice   by   Steve Orlando - This was hard to read.  The writing was off and tried to hard to be clever only making it difficult to follow.  Once I got to the end and was "ok, I get it" that I thought it would have been a good story if only I could have followed it better.

17.   Griswold's Song   by   Chad Kinkle - Another Civil War story with a lot more shooting.  Ended kind of abruptly though.

18.   Savage Practices   by   Leonard N. Wallace - Holy crap!  This one caught me by surprise.  Good ole Cowboys vs Indians story..or so it seems....

19.   For Old Times Sake   by   Pat Loika - Started of pretty good but needed a better ending.

20.   Gutshot   by   Michael Woods - Another good one.  A lot of these are come uppin' stories but the come uppin's are always different.  Such is the case here.  I say anymore and I'll spoil it.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

21.   Them What Comes   by   mpMann - Ha, ha.  Another good one that makes you smile.  Lot's of fighting with some funny characters.

22.   Craftsmanship   by   Frank Beaton - Who knew there was an exact science to the hangman's noose?  Now we can all know.  Another good one.  And good art too.

23.   We Never Sleep   by   Nemo Woodbrine - Western spies!  Nice one.  Very very short though.

24.   The Ballad of Sid Grenadine   by   Josh Wagner - Man, Sid Grenadine is not a good man.  Good ballad.

25.   The More Things Change   by   Skipper Martin - Argh!!  I hate not knowing why!  Why dammit why!!  Story definitely pulled me in.

26.   Working on Christmas   by   Steve Orlando - this was borderline pornographic.  Took away from the story which might have been ok.  As is - thumbs down.

27.   Hell Hath No Fury   by   Noble Larimer - Classic revenge against the gang story.  And awesome.

28.   We Meet At Twelve   by   P.J. Kryfko - Another nice one.  Bad guy wants to have a shoot out with fat sheriff.  Nothing goes as planned. Thumbs up!

29.   Ass Meat   by   Simon Fraser - Now this one is cool because they've made the paper look like old 1970's newsprint.  And the story is good, funny, and then ends in a bummer.

30.   Memories   by   Michael Woods - Well nothing like finishing up the book with a sad story.  Bummer!!

Well - This was a lot of fun to read.  A collection of short stories that for the most part was a lot of fun to read.  I'm lookiing forward to Volume 2!!

That looks like an awesome book,Jeff!

It was Jimmy!  I found it by accident when I was looking for stuff by Jeff Lemire.  I believe he has a story in Volume 2 so when I started reading about that volume decided I needed to try Volume 1 first - plus it was free to read on ComiXolgy Unlimited.

I'm so glad I did.  Great fun!!

Yeah, Jeff, that looks like a good one!

But what happened to your stance of not adding books the same week you have already set your lineup? COME ON MAN!!! Consistency  ;)
 ;D

Seriously though, I may check that out, how much was it?

Oh and Jimbo, it is about time to start on your East of West vol 7 ... I am there (I think? If that volume starts at issue 30)  :)
(Also just noticed I put X-Force #3 as the last one I read when I had read that the day before. That last was #4 ... ooops)

Sandman: Overture #1
Hellblazer #1

New Mutants #5

**********************************

X-Men #4 - Wait,
no killing humans but you cut all their arms off? You know they will bleed out yeah? And why did Charles wear his helmet to dinner? This is a meeting where even Magneto "suits up" and you don't even bother to take off the helmet? And then you do, for a minute? WHAT? Come on Hickman  >:(
X-Force #5 - Man, just when I was thinking I was totally wrong about writer Benjamin Percy, he goes and writes this. Blah. And the stuff with Wolverine didn't help. Just really tired of the way writers use him as a zombie type now, allowing no time for the healing to take place.
Wolvie gets cut into, and yes, there is a short period of time that he is a little out of it, but then he is jumping all around, just a torso, stabbing people (really far up their back?) from behind? And the other guy, opposite of the guy being stuck in the back, never saw the little dude hoping around before he stuck his friend? And Forge, using what looks like a Krakoan cargo loader from Alien 2, just takes each half of Wolverine and sticks them together over his head and ... what ... is he gonna hold him up there until until the instant healing is done? Just BOOM ... togetherness now? And why does Domino's uniform show body scarring? That makes no sense at all. I know the outfits can be tight, but to have her outfit have scars from her body showing? And her bad eye, or her eye socket, bleeds glowing light?
Going to give this one more issue, as I do want to see where this goes next, but I don't see me sticking to this no matter how important it is to the Xverse.

Maybe I am just getting over the whole X thing already? Even Hickman got my goat up this month. So much so that I didn't even try the one X comic I was most excited for in New Mutants. It may suck, or be bad, but if I would have read it and if that one would have sucked last night, after the two I read prior ... I may have just dropped them all
 >:(

Lois Lane #7 - Ugh, and another disappointment? I know it seems like it has to be me, not in the mood for comics maybe, but no, this art is getting really, really bad. In a very sloppy way. Needs a better inker I think? This looks horrible. Maybe just too much Dragotta for my eyes and now everything else sucks?  ;D
  :-\
Love ya, Rucka, but I think I am out!!

East of West #26
East of West #27
East of West #28
East of West #29 - Man, all the twists and double-crosses are getting my head spinning  ;D But lvin' this book. And daddy and son are reunited (united for the first time?) !!!! Look out!!! Loved the bounty hunters.

Seriously though, I may check that out, how much was it?

The first two volumes are free on ComiXology Unlimited. Otherwise they are $17.99.  For Volume 3, I waited for one of the Image sales they always have and got it for $5.99.
