Title: NFL 2017
Post by: Jeff on September 11, 2017, 07:05:50 PM
Hey Jimmy - Damn the Vikings looked good tonight.  Are you worried?

They did look good.

Always worried of them-in Minnesota.

However, when was a time that New Orleans ever had a defense? When they were paid to head hunt.  :D

However, I was at the game, Packers v Seahawks, and man, am I ...so hopeful that the D-line makes our secondary look good each week. Which I don't believe, and they are gonna get torched tonight, because D. Randall is barely a starter (after last year), and Q Rollins is just outmatched by everyone. Not happy with the corners we got.

But we'll see! 2nd year in a row that the Packers got to be the opening game for a team opening a new stadium (Minnesota, now Atlanta).

We'll see how this goes.  :-\

Not sure why you are shocked. We are nothing better than a .500 team this year.
passing D is good enough, finally, but our rush D is porous, we have a guy at offensive right tackle that may well be a statue and we rely way to much on that total jerkwad, Antonio Brown.
Add in we have a "coach" who isn't a coach at all, who always (for years) let's us play down to the competition (we always play bad against bad teams ... see the Bears this year) who can never make adjustments we need and who can't coach his way to anything other than being a "motivator" ... No surprise to me. Mike Tomlin needs to be benched as far as I'm concerned.

In all seriousness, what a game.

Our defense really blew it at the end.  When I saw two Cowboys miss their tackles and let Rodgers get a first down I knew it was over.

Well, Jeff, it's a good thing that Kirk Cousins is no Aaron Rodgers today. Nice win for the Cowboys! By the way I still hate the Cowboys just because they are the Cowboys. :D

If we couldnít beat the Redskins than we should hang it up.

And right now, Aaron Rodgers is no Aaron Rodgers.  😝

OH god...no more bye weeks...no more hiding...it's Brett Hundley for the rest of the season.

I will love to say I'm wrong if he throws for 340 yards and 4 tds against the Lions Monday night.

However, the Lions have a good defense, a really good secondary (most times), and well this Brett hasn't passed for over 150 total yards in 2 games.

I feel it's going to be more of the same. Which means, losses from here on out. Ugh.

Which makes me ask; is McCarthy a good coach? It's easier to ask others that aren't in Packers country, I feel. I've always called him a lunkhead, but hey, these teams win.

Then again...is that because of, and only, because his 2 qbs are one of the best in history (Favre) and another who, invariably, I think, is a first time Hall of Famer (Rodgers)? If you've been grooming and purposefully keeping Hundley for 3 years on the bench as the #2, and the dude cannot play a good down of football, or make a completion yet of over 15 yards, then what kind of coach are you?

Going with that, if the Packers never rise above 20th in total defense for 5 years, why do you keep the same coach?

I think our LB Shazier just ended his career. Hit a guy with his helmet, facemask down (like I keep screaming for coaches to make them stop doing that) and he is not mvoing his legs. Looks like his spine compressed more than any other time I have seen it
 :-\ :-[

Title: Re: NFL 2017

His arms moved though! Legs....though....:(

Title: Re: NFL 2017
Post by: Perry on December 05, 2017, 03:53:09 AM
Yeah, he rolled over and ... his legs were just not right.

Luckily though, extremely lucky, it appears it is just a spinal bruise? Does that mean no paralysis?

Title: Re: NFL 2017
Post by: Jimmy T on December 05, 2017, 05:11:21 AM
True. The spinal bruise leads to inflammation and swelling within the area which is how temporary paralysis can occur. However there can always be complications for how much swelling occurs and how much permanent affect that can happen to the spinal cord.

Title: Re: NFL 2017
Post by: Perry on December 08, 2017, 08:53:04 AM
Looks like more than just a bruise now. They had to cut him open
 :'(
Man, I just hope he regains feeling in his legs.

I am so mad at coaches for not teaching/re-enforcing  the "See what you hit" rule or keep your head up idea when tackling. If I was a coach, each time one of my players made a tackle without wrapping up OR seeing the tackle, I would sit them on the bench for at least a play or two. EACH AND EVERY TIME. No reason to lead with the crown of your helmet.

I wish this just wasn't typing! I'd love to be sitting around with all you guys at a bar, eating wings, on a Thursday night, a few days before Sunday kickoff, and just yakking football!!

Perry; them Steelers! How many more games can they survive with a FG with time winding down! And the Pats coming!! The Pats are 10-2 under Brady against the Steelers. WTF up with that?!!

Jeff; how about dem 'boys! Honestly, I don't think they have any more of a chance this season. But at least Dak pulled something out of this season to show that yes, he can have success without a prime running back.

Wentz...THAT SUCKS FOR THE LEAGUE!! I'm sorry, but a great up and coming star, seems a great guy, having a storybook season so far (like the life Dak and Zeke had last year), and then, especially for that city, to have him lost 3 weeks before th end of the season? THAT SUCKS

Antonio Brown...should seriously be the MVP for this season. With Wentz out, Rodgers not playing 8 weeks, and a human-ish looking Brady, what other player has simply excelled this entire season? AB, that's who.

Aaron Rodgers is back! But for what, I temper myself with. A team with a shitty defense. To have the honor of making the playoffs (which, yeah, is still a really good thing for an organization. Even if one and done, you still get in, and that shows organizaton strength and ability). But...the excitement of watching this guy play again...if maybe for only 3 more games this year...yes, I'm giddy! But there is no honest chance I believe in a Superbowl win, let alone having all the chips fall right for a playoff berth!!!

What an exciting week coming up here!!!

I actually kinda want Eli to be benched again. See the rookie for the next few weeks, and let Eli go...and I say lets see him back with Coughlin in Jacksonville. By the way, food for thought, I've always rated Eli as a 'really, really good above average qb.' That's it. He's going to be 1st ballot HoF, but that's based off 2 SB wins only. Is that enough, I do like to ask.

Speaking of HoF...Devin Hester should be. If there is justice, he would be a first ballot.

I miss Barry Sanders. There was a 20th aniiversary thing of his 2000 yard this week on ESPN, and it brought it all back for me. Simply the greatest, I think. I mean, the actually greatest above all others in history.

Crap, I should go to sleep.

FOOTBALL

We are going to have our asses handed to us this Sunday. The Pats are a well coached team and we are not. It's as simple as that. The Pats will take away Brown and Bell (someone I need to win my fantasy championship) and we will struggle to keep Brady in check. Happens every year.

And yes, these close games are taking days off my life expectancy. Luckily, this weeks game should be a blow-out like all the rest.

Oh man...so much changes for the Packers...

..what happens the Divisional round?...

..will officiating ever fully recover?!...

Title: Re: NFL 2017
Post by: Perry on January 09, 2018, 08:41:10 AM
The officiating has been horrible this year.
I know people say that every year and I know people say people say that every year, but this has been, without question or hesitation THE worst year ever.

Every game.

Not just bad or questionable calls, but refs not knowing what the hell they are doing.

For instance just the past Playoff game with the Titans and Chiefs, Jeff Tripplete, a 22 or 23 year vet actually stated this after Titans QB Mariota caught one of his own passes after it was deflected back to him -
"There is no flag for illegal touching as the quarterback was in shotgun formation"
The ball was batted back to Mariota by a member of the opposing team. It didn't matter how he lined up prior to that event. Shotgun, under center, wildcat, it doesn't matter. A freaking O-Lineman can catch a batted pass and run why couldn't a QB? Oh yeah, he can.

That is just one of the 'oh so many examples of horrific officiating this year. I could name so many more if I, much like the scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz, only had a brain.
 :D ;D

I was rooting for the Steeler's too but I will say that Jacksonville is no slouch team.  At any rate, I am now a Jacksonville fan as I really don't want to see the Pat's in the Superbowl...again!   ;D  (Sorry Wringer!)

Oh I get it and completely understand...of course I don't agree :) but if I get it and would be sick of them too if they were not my team. Nearly 20yrs of loosing to the same team has got to be tough on any fan.

Title: Re: NFL 2017
Post by: Perry on January 16, 2018, 06:46:04 PM
Not sure why everyone is surprised by this.
We won 4 games in a row by a late field goal ... as time expired. This defense was not as good on the field as it appears on paper. Once Shazier went down it only amplified issues further. It is like Dallas witout LB Lee. He goes out or doesn't start and they are like 2-21. Sometimes key people are just that ... key
 ;D

Add in the horrible coaching we have ...
Yes, I hate Mike Tomlin as a coach. He is a great, fantastic speaker and motivator but he lacks countless attributes needed to be a good head coach. Like allowing our offensive play-caller and coach, Haley, the ability to refuse to use his almost 7 foot tall, 250 pound QB to do a QB sneak for one yard on 4th and 1, and instead pitch it back 9 yards to Bell for one attempt and then tell Ben to pass on another. And this is just two examples of horrible coaching I have witnessed all year.

Big Ben not being allowed to change plays at the line just slams home how idiotic this coaching staff is. From the top down.

Remember the shock when the Steelers played man-to-man defense this past year against the Pats? Remember how everyone was shocked we "changed tactics"? Well, that is how I have felt for year and years. The Pats game is a perfect example. It took us how many years to F'n try something new against them? Year after year, loss after loss of zone Defense before you finally allow the D to go man to man? I don't care about personnelle. If the Pats eat you alive when you play zone STOP PLAYING ZONE!!!!!! Regardless if you have the right players to do it. You know they beat you when you play zone, but for years ... and years ... you kept playing zone.

Tomlin is NOT a good Head Coach.

But ... I am not upset this year.  ;D Hahaha, no, really. I knew we were gonna lose at some point, probably against the Pats, but certainly against the NFC team this year. Glad we lost really, as I think Jax has a better shot at beating the Pats as not only do the Jags have a good defense and a powerful run game, they have coaches and not just people that make good sound bites for tv.
 :)

Love it Perry, love it!

Always good to have the in-house fan describe what's going on.

For me, I always wonder if others think Mike McCarthy's a good coach. He's been a coach through 2 Hall of Famer's. Did he make Rodgers, or did Rodgers simply need to get on the field and go? I love that Rodgers makes plenty of playcalls and decisions on the field as well-it is his offense to run. That's fantastic; games go based on how he calls from the formations he has.

Now, if Big Ben can't do that...well, that sucks a little bit! But man, that dude has had some success though!!

Gah; can it be next football season already!

No offense to Wringer, I only 'hate' the Pats because they win more than my Packers. But man, ...will I live to see another team be as great (or cheat as much) as they did to sustain for so long? I'm not sure it can be matched!

Title: Re: NFL 2017

Well looky who is not coming back to the Steelers next year!! Our offensive coordinator Todd "I refuse to QB sneak on 4th and 1" Haley!!

Hopefully that will help.

Now if we can just go back and not let defence coordinator Dick LeBeau go ...  :-\

No offense to Wringer, I only 'hate' the Pats because they win more than my Packers.

Also no offense to Wringer, but I hate the Pats for many, many more reasons than just that.  ;D ;D ;D

Yeah buddy. My boy Dave, a huge 'Boys fan and a Pats hater, told his daughter that they were not going to even watch the game.  :D :D
I told him to at least watch it for the commercials.
 ;D
And Jeff, not sure how you feel but man does Dave want that head coach of yours fired. He is tired of his "we learned and we will move on" type of attitude after every loss and the way he claps everytime you guys turn the ball over or fail to convert on 3rd downs.

Yeah, that one year you had The Red Sox, the Patriots and the Bruins ... and Celtics? Wasn't it all four major sports you guys won one year or within a year? Or was it only three?

Either way and just so you know, that is why I hate ... THAT IS WHY!!!!
 ;D

EDIT - Of course I can't have a sweep like that because all of my favorite teams, well back when I watched Basketball (don't now because it is double dribbling each time up the court) and Baseball, all my faves came from different cities.

When I was a much younger comic reader, my teams were Steelers (because of Rocky Bleier), Islanders (for the Sutter Brothers, but I have no reason for that now that I can remember), Braves (only because when we finally got cable I could watch every Atlanta game on TBS) and, speaking of Celtics, the Lakers because, well, I hated the Bird

yes, all four won within a 5yr period or something crazy like that and how can you not Love Larry "the great white hope" Bird...the rivalry and pure talent of him vs Magic was 80s gold.  Absolutely love that they are really good friends even now.

Dude had talent, no doubt, but ... well ... Just never liked him (as much as I like anyone I have never met in real life ... you know what I mean?) Bird was a trash talkin' SOB, which was fun, for sure, but always came across wrong to me. Probably more me than him
 :D
Magic and Bird fought for years ;D but they eventually found common ground in the respect they had for each others game. They were just the total opposite on so much it was hard for them early to be close; they were almost literally the perfect picture of opposites ... country mouse and city mouse, black and white, passer and shooter, on and on ...

It's good to see the Bruins back in the mix again feel like they disappeared for a couple of years. However I'm a Flyers fan so we'll see just a lot of futility each year.
