Title: ACTION COMICS
Post by: Perry on January 17, 2014, 01:42:09 PM
Just read issue #27 of Action because it now has Pak writing .... and ...

What in the hell did I just read?

Not even three years into this "nu" Superman, and this is where they want Superman to be? Look, I know when it comes to this character that I am not, by any means, the target audience, but this is ... I don't know what this actually is, but is anyone the target audience here?

And Lana. Is that how she is now? She's Laura Croft?

Is Pak just tying up lose ends? Maybe? Eh, maybe it's just me and my natural hatred of the star of this book, but man, I really expected more from this.

Perry,

I'll honestly say that I have no idea what your true ire is at this. These 2 issues are truly something quite good from the last year year (since Morrison left), and really shine on Superman finding another way-a better way!-and acting the part that we should all want to see.

This is also Lana Lang's first real appearance post-prom scenes from Morrison's Action run. So, she's a complete cypher, but then again, so is everyone in Superman's world, since almost no attention has been paid to any supporting cast beyond a few nods in panels (and again, doing the Ultimate transference of 'you know them...you like them...what's to discuss?)

I echo much of your disdain about the reboot, and express the same frustrations.

I am quite honestly confused at what you are angry about.  ???

Well not really angry as much as just confused.  :)

That this story is not the story they should be telling. Like I mentioned ... somewhere  ;D ... this "NEW" universe has only been around 2 years, why have we jumped to telling stories of this ilk? Again, I am coming in as a new reader. I barely know who this Superman is (according to DC) yet this story is one that seems like a story from a 2014 Superman story, not a story from a Superman that has been around for 2 years (or 7 years counting the 5 year gap thingy)

Again, not mad, but if you don't see how this is NOT an early Superman story ... what DC should be telling ... well there's nothing I can do to further explain it. And that's fine.
 :)

EDIT - Wow, no wonder Jimmy was confused. HAHAHA
I really did just rant on and on without getting to a single point didn't I?

Sorry Jimmy.  8)

LOL yeah, I had NO clue what you were trying to say!!

That said, there are "no" early stories to tell. We have seen those stories pre-Nu, as those stories and experiences are still supposed to count. Superman died, there was some kind of Crisis, but how we got this new world to develop and become as it is is discussed in Justice League volume 1 and 2, and Action Comics vol 1-3.

That's it. That's all we get.

What we have now is simply a younger Superman.

That's. It.

That said, a story "of this ilk"-what did ya think of that from a different POV? :D

:) No, DC readers have. I never once read the death of Superman story and of course there are TONS more stories that have been told of Superman's past that I, and other readers, have never read. THAT is my point of how DC screwed up the Relaunch. I don't need to go back to square one, per se, but you need to concentrate on early life stories when you just restarted a universe from scratch.

When DC decided to wipe away all the old, that should have included all the old. This should be a "getting to know you" time in DC and yet, instead, we get the "feeling" that now Superman has been around just as long as he was before, but now he has a new look.

I know its hard for them, especially when they didn't reset everyone (Batman), but hey, they should still do the best they can at starting over after they started over.
 :-\

Edit - Again, we are just coming at this from two totally different angles. And that's fine  :)
