Title: What Concerts/Shows Have You Seen Lately?
Post by: EmeraldWarrior420 on August 05, 2012, 05:20:04 PM
This is the thread to share your concert/show experiences on. Who did you see? How were they? Was the opening band/act any good?

Saw Iron Maiden last night in Sacramento, it was freaking amazing! Greatest concert I have EVER seen. They rocked it so hard! They put on a helluva stage show. They sounded fan-freaking-tastic live. And Bruce Dickinson is a kick ass stage-man! And the opening band, Coheed & Cambria, wasn't bad. I think I'm gonna have to check them out.

Now I just need to see Megadeth and Metallica, and I'll die a happy metal-head.

Ironic you started this today.  I haven't been to a concert in years but last night I went to see KISS!  Motley Crüe opened for them and they borh put on an awesome show.  I'm paying for my night of fun big time today though.  :P

Sounds awesome! Two bands I'd love to see! Was KISS's stage-show as legendary as I've heard?

i saw maiden on the 1st date of the tour in charlotte in june.  it was my 3rd time seeing them in the past 2 years.  they have never failed to amaze me.  alice cooper opened for them but unfortunately, we missed him due to my friend running late and then getting stuck in traffic.  however...FORTUNATELY...i saw alice the week before and it was AWESOME!  i was never a big alice fan, but that show gave me a new found respect for the dude.

jeff...i was wondering...how long did kiss play and how many songs did they do?

KISS' stage show was pretty cool.  They had platforms that floated I've the crowd.

The Crüe had this thing that looked like the gate on Stargate.  The drummer's platform spun around on the inside of it so at one point the drummer is upside down while playing the drums.

The whole show (both Crüe and KISS) lasted about 3 1/2 hours.  KISS couldn't do a second encore because Dallas has a curfew at that venue since its outdoors.

Dang, within 5 posts we've named the e best stage bands in rock history: Iron Maiden, KISS, and Alice Cooper! So, how was Cooper's stage show for your show?

Now I just need to see Megadeth and Metallica, and I'll die a happy metal-head.

I saw Megadeth in May at the Hard Rock in Orlando. They sounded better than ever.  I have to give Dave credit, he has got a kick ass band these days.  Chris Broderick was shredding like a madman.  I was probably 3 rows back, and i got some amazing pics with my iPhone.  Even Vic Rattlehead made an appearance!  It was really awesome.  Brought back some great memories, as the last time I saw Megadeth in concert was in support of the So Far S Good So What album, so it's been a while.  ;) The opening band was Lacuna Coil; they were pretty good. Nothing to write home about, but still enjoyable.

It's been a while since I've seen Metallica, but they're on my short list of bands to see again.

You have one up on me however, I have never seen Maiden live, but I fully plan on catching them when they come around Florida way this year or next.

Greatest metal band of all-time, as far as I'm concerned.

cooper's stage show was phenomenal.  it lived up to the hype.  the frankenstein monster was fantastic, the beheading of alice was all i had heard it was and it was just awesome in general.

just out of curiosity....how old are you guys and what other bands rank as your faves?

i am 38 and really got into music in 85-86.  the heyday of the metal movement.  my favorite bands right now are KISS, maiden, foo fighters,  rush, dream theater, van halen and queensryche.  i just found out yesterday that queensryche fired geoff tate a few weeks ago.  WTF?

i have seen everyone on my "bucket list" of bands to see.  i have never seen ozzy, judas preist or the scorpions and would love to...they just aren't bands i feel like i HAVE to see.

I just turned 29. I'm a big metal-head. I enjoy metal from all eras, so that's why I'm into bands who's heyday were before I was born. About the only metal I don't listen to is the rap-metal hybrid stuff like Korn and Limp Bizkit, and straight Death Metal like Cannibal Corpse or Six Feet Under (although I enjoy the badly named subgenre "Melodic Death Metal").

Some of my favorite bands:

-3 Inches of Blood
-AC/DC
-A.F.I.
-Alice In Chains
-Amon Amarth
-Children of Bodom
-The Cult
-Def Leppard
-Demons & Wizards
-Five Finger Death Punch
-Iced Earth
-In Flames
-Iron Maiden
-Killswitch Engage
-Megadeth
-Metallica
-The Misfits
-Motley Crue
-Mudvayne
-Nightwish
-Queensryche
-Ratt
-Scar Symmetry
-Skid Row
-The Scorpions
-Year 200X

And a bunch more. I'm sure I missed of few that probably belong on this list.

I'm 40, and I've been listening to metal for 30 years, and I don't guess it will ever change. I just enjoy the energy and power of it. I listen to almost everything, except for death/black metal.
Some of my current favorites are:
Megadeth
Metallica
Overkill
Exodus
Testament
Iron Maiden
As I Lay Dying
Nightwish
Volbeat
Avenged Sevenfold
AC/DC
The Showdown
Rammstein
Machine Head
Fear Factory
Dream Theater

I went and saw Megadeth last night in Reno and it was freaking awesome! Best show I've been to. Kyng, the opening band, sucked balls though. No problem since Dave and the boys showed em how it's done. Reno is the best place to see a show, too. Drinks while you wait in line, and a massive concert hall where you get your own table with full-service bars in the place.

Best anniversary present ever!

Yeah, that does sound sweet. Good thing about seeing Megadeth after all these years ... you don't have to worry about Dave's voice sounding blown out. He always sounds like it has been.
 ;D

Honestly think if he could have eased a little of his pride and fear, and got another singer, the band would have exploded and he would have finally been able to let go of what Lars and the boys did to him. Always liked his stuff, but I know his popularity, being so much less than Metallica's, really ate at him. Bottom line, even though his style changed to more 'radio friendly' towards the decline, his stuff killed Metallica's later stuff.

His voice sounded fine at the show, and it's always sounded good on the recordings.

I've always felt Megadeth played harder and faster than Metallica ever did, however I am partial since Megadeth is my favorite band ever. And if I was Dave, I'd be pissed at Metallica too. Most of Kill 'Em All and Ride the Lightning was written by Dave yet Metallica reaped the benefits without him, and parts of Master of Puppets were written by him as well. But they've both gotten over their gripes with each other and have even played onstage together since reconciling which was shown in "Some Kind of Monster".

I saw megadeth 2 weeks ago at the house of blues in myrtle beach.  pretty good, show.  I wished they had played more stuff from some of their other albums (they played the entirety of countdown to extinction).  I was hoping to hear "wake up dead", "a tout le monde", "black curtains", "elysuian fields" and "in my darkest hour".  other than that gripe, I enjoyed myself.
