Marvel is promoting February's Fantastic Four #588 as the "final issue" of the long-running series, which first started in 1961.

The publisher sent out a cover image for #588 on Wednesday afternoon, with the subject, "Fantastic Four: Final Issue" and solicitation information for the next two issues. Fantastic Four was absent in Marvel's recently released March solicitations, with a new title simply called FF from previous creative team Jonathan Hickman and Steve Epting in its place. The title was described as, "A bold new direction for Marvel's First Family featuring new members, old friends, older enemies and uneasy alliances that will send shockwaves through the Marvel Universe."

As previously announced, January's Fantastic Four #587 (the final part of the currently unfolding "Three" storyline) will be polybagged in order to not spoil the issue's contents, widely hinted at being the death of one of the team's four founding members: Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch and the Thing.

And...

How long will this major change last? How long was Reed "dead" the last time?
